"No, it is my turn."

"You read to (y/n) yesterday Fili. It isn't your turn" Kili hisses back.

Dwalin rolls his eyes.

"Everyone knows the lass loves my stories the most" Bofur chimes in.

Fili and Kili stare at him in disbelief.

"You must kidding" Dwalin says.

From afar you try to ignore the dwarves who think they are whispering. Honestly, all of Middle-Earth must be able to hear them at this point.

Since the day they learned your age things have spiraled out of control pretty fast.

It started with carrying you, Thorin ordering more breaks to feed you, you being allowed to take longer naps then the rest of them...

There really wasn't a lot to complain about. If Bilbo didn't agree with the way the dwarves treated you it was simply because he was jealous.

Who had ever said life on the road was hard? It was peanuts.

The only thing that bothered you was that Bombur insisted on feeding you. And some of them had gotten it in their heads that they needed to read you a story before you fell asleep. That was exactly what was going on right now.

"We can ask the lass who she wants to read to her?" Balin suggested.

Thorin furrowed his eyebrows. "(Y/N) should be asleep already. We are not going to bother a youngster with such questions."

Bilbo was standing a little behind them, listening to every word they said.

"Then how are we going to settle this?" Dwalin asked impatiently. "The lass can't go to sleep without a bed time story."

All the dwarves hummed in agreement.

Bilbo crossed his arms.

"We can all tell a part of the story?" Ori offered shyly.

Nori shook his head. "No, that won't work. Young ones don't have enough energy to listen to the whole story. Some of us would be left out" he explained.

"Maybe we can-"

"HOW ABOUT YOU JUST KEEP YOUR MOUTHS SHUT AND LET HER FALL ASLEEP!" Bilbo suddenly shouted.

Everyone went silent.

The elder dwarves send him angry glares. "How dare you risk waking her up?" Thorin hissed, trying to be silent.

Fili went to check on you. He tip-toed back to the group of dwarves after he made sure you were still asleep.

Bilbo handpalmed himself. "What is the idea behind wanting to tell her a bed time story when she is already asleep?"

They all looked at him in shock.

"Have you never raised a child before?" Dori asked.

Dwalin grabbed his battle axes. "Tell me again halfling, why did your 'diseased' relatives decide to let you take care of their little sprout?" he asked with a threatening voice. It was quite clear what he was implying.

Balin laid a hand on his brother' shoulder to hold him back. "I am sure they had their reasons. Didn't they, master Baggins?"

All eyes were glued on him.

Something had to happen or they would surely hurt him.

You stirred a little in your 'sleep'.

All the dwarves immediately turned around and rushed to your side.

"Do you think something is wrong?" Gloin asked.

Oin laid a hand on your forehead. "No fever" he said.

Bilbo was long forgotten now that they had a reason to fuss over you again.

"Dwarves" your uncle muttered.
