Imagine talking about your own world to Gandalf

Imagine requested by emwillen ; Imagine that the battery of your phone runs low and you get frustrated. Gandalf wants to know what's wrong and wants to know what a 'phone' is. It leads into a conversation about your world.

'Aaaaarrrgghhh!' you shout.

Some dwarves jumped up with their weapons drawn, ready to battle against their enemy.

You stomped around the camp with your phone in one hand. No one knew what the poor thing in your hand had done wrong but they did hear some words escaping your mouth that they wished they hadn't heard.

Dwalin growled, sitting back down when he was sure there was no one attacking the company. 'Lass, what is it this time?' he asked

'THIS THING HATES ME!' you shouted.

Balin patted his brother on his shoulder to tell him to be quiet. It was the best remedy if you were on one of your rampages.

'What is the matter? You act like the world is on the verge of disappearing' Gandalf said. He sat on a large rock with his pipe in his hand. He looked amused as you halted in front of him.

That annoyed you.

'The battery of my phone is almost dead! And because you don't even know what electricity is here in this god-forsaken world of yours, means that I can't even charge it!' you shouted in response.

Gandalf frowned. 'Is that phone connected to your health? Otherwise, I don't see the point in keeping it alive. Or is it a living thing?' he asked.

You huffed and let yoursel fall down on your behind. The ground was soft from yesterday's rain so it didn't hurt that much.

'It is connected to my health. Without it, I don't know how much I have walked today. And that is important. Also, I don't know what time it is. I won't be able to take pictures of myself. Can you just imagine that? What if I look super cute and I can't take a picture of myself?'

Fili and Kili were sitting across camp but could follow every word you said.

'What is a picture Fili?'

'I have no clue.'

'You speak of things that are not of this world (y/n). What are, pictures, you said? Aye, pictures. And why would you want to know what time it is? As long as you know the difference between night and day, you should be fine here' Gandalf said as he tried to calm you down.

You let out an exasperated breath. 'I didn't expect you to understand. I my world it is crucial to know what time it is. We need to be on time for school or work, need to hang out with friends, then hang out, we need to eat on time and need to go to sleep. Our whole day is planned!'

Gandalf didn't seem convinced. 'Why would you plan your whole day? It sounds quite uneccesary. Just relax and have some fun during the day' the wizard said. He leaned his head down against the cold stone and closed his eyes.

'Our society is different from yours. Women and man have to work and we have to do keep our house clean, do the groceries, walk our dogs or take care of our pets. It is busy but everyone is doing it! We need to make sure we are on time so that we can get the most out of our day' you try to explain.

The wizard didn't bother to open his eyes. 'Then take this time to relax. Have you ever stopped to think that maybe your world is moving too fast?'

He was right. It was quite nice to be able to take it easy for a change. But you still missed your own world. Sometimes it may be a little chaotic but you were used to living fast. You didn't feel like you were missing out on anything.

'Maybe it is, but it is really up to oneself to make time for yourself during the day. I loved to play games on my Nintendo or to go outside and take photos of my town. There were also so many books I still want to read. And stuff that needs to get done before my next school day.'

You sighed as you laid down. What if time hadn't stopped in your world like Gandalf said it did? Your parents would be so worried about you right now. And your friends...

'Lass, what is a Nintendo?' someone asked.

You shot back up to find the whole company standing around you and Gandalf. They all looked at you with curious faces. Thorin was busying himself somewhere else, probably just sulking around. But the rest of them were there.

'And what are photos?' Ori asked. Maybe he had also been the one to ask the first question. He held his book in one hand so that he could write everything you said down.

'Why are you blushing lass?' Bofur asked.

It was true. You were blushing because you didn't know that they had all been listening to your conversation with Gandalf.

You grinned sheepishly. 'It's nothing. For how long have you been listening though?'

Kili shrugged. 'I don't know about them but we have been listening since the start. Fili and I want to hear more about your world. Like, how rich are your parents that you can go to school? Or are you a princess or something?'

All eyes were turned to you. Instead of Gandalf's, who was still trying to relax for a bit.

You made yourself comfortable on the grass since you were obviously going to have a long conversation instead of a casual talk.

'I am not a princess Kili. In the land where I live, it is expected of every child to go to school. Poor and rich children alike. We have to make our way through basic education so you all have the same start. After that, you can choose what you want to become when you're a grown-up' you explained.

Balin nodded. 'That sounds interesting. It is different from this world then. Human children have to work when they are young. Most of the time, there isn't enough money to send them to go to practice under a mentor.'

'Do you like school (y/n)?' Fili asked interested.

You thought about it for a moment. 'I guess it is alright. I mean, there are other things to do that are more fun. But at least I can have a good job because of my education. It just takes up a lot of your time.'

'And what do you practice at your school? I recall you didn't even know how to hold a sword when we gave you one' Dwalin said.

'They teach us all kinds of things, like history, math, different languages, art and much more. The reason they don't teach us how to wield a sword is because we don't use those weapons anymore in our century' you explained.

Bilbo looked up with a smile while the dwarves seemed to be confused.

'So that means that you don't need weapons anymore?' Bilbo asked excited.

You shook your head. 'Sadly, that is not the case Bilbo. We have more powerful weapons now. But the people in charge of those weapons don't know how to use them properly. They take advantage of the normal people. The weapons are also a great deal stronger then the swords you use' you said as you looked at the dwarves

Their fierce faces told you that they highly doubted that.

'The weapons in my world can erase a big part of the world in a matter of seconds' you added to your explanation.

Nori and Dori looked at each other in fright.

'Have they been used before?' Kili asked to break the silence.

'There have been a few moments in history when they were almost used. But if one land uses them then the other will use them too and the whole world will be gone before we even know what happened.'

Everyone turned quiet.

Only the snore of Gandalf could be heard. Apparently he had fallen asleep.

'Then I have to say I am glad that you are here with us' Bombur says earnestly.

The other dwarves nodded. They had grown quite fond of you over the last couple of months.

'But you said something about a photo too lass. What is that all about?' Gloin asked.

You sighed. How were you going to explain modern technology to them?
