It's been almost 100 years since you left you home in Mirkwood. You've almost gone back countless times, but the fear of what Thranduil would say or do to you kept you back. Now, you felt ready. You needed to see him again. You heard very little about him, only how we had kept to himself all this time. His son, Legolas, who used to be so close to you that you would call him your own son, had ran off to find some ranger and hadn't been back to Mirkwood either. Now, times were changing again. Darkness had come back into Middle Earth. Sauron had grown in power since the first war of the ring. You had heard that Mirkwood was getting darker and darker by the day, and the people began to leave, and you couldn't stand for that. Mirkwood was your home, and you would do whatever needed to save it if you could. You wanted to keep the kingdom alive, not abandoned. You took your horse, and with one last look at Rivendell, rode to the East towards Mirkwood.

It had been days before you reached Mirkwood. Orcs had made the trek even longer. But at last, you were there. Your home. But something was off. It didn't seem like the Mirkwood you left. With one last breath, you began to walk into the forest, uncertain of what was to come.

When you reached the gates of Mirkwood, there were no guards to greet you. The gates seemed darker and the sunlight didn't hit the river below you as it once did. As you pushed open the gates, you were astonished by the sight infront of you. Mirkwood was empty. An entire kingdom- gone. "They left. They really left." Is all you could think. You walked around what was left of your abandoned home. Your friends, family, everyone-gone. You couldn't believe it. "If I hadn't left-" YOU began to think, when your thought was cut off by a loud banging. When you turned to the source, your eyes widened. Standing there, pale as the moon, was Thranduil- looking ghostly. He stared at you with wide eyes. They were so dim;you couldn't find the sparkle that was once there.
