"My King?" Thranduil nodded. "We captured the dwarves. Are you ready to see them?"
"Dwavs! Dwavs!" Thranduil watched in amusement as his daughter excitedly called out to see the dwarves. He couldn't blame her. She had heard many stories about the earth folk but had never seen them. "Bring them up" he ordered.
His daughter clapped with her hands as the guard went on his way. "They coming?" she asked. She rested the back of her head against Thranduil' chest. With big, brown eyes she looked up at him.
He softly stroked her hair. "Yes they are litte one. Wait just a little longer and you will see them."
She quickly returned to looking straight ahead. She didn't want to miss a single second of the other race that was going to be here any second now. Or so she hoped.
The dwarves still had some way to go until they would reach the elven king.
After only one minute, the princess was getting restless. "Dwavs" she said, on the verge of crying.
"It is alright, my little dove" Thranduil said soothingly. "We can't expect them to be fast with such short legs." He smiled. They were here.
Grumbles and protests were the first sign that Thorin Oakenshield was nearby. This was going to be so much fun. As soon as he had noticed the disturbance in his kingdom he had started thinking about ways to torture the dwarven king.
Mental torture. And maybe just a hint of the physical.
The floor trembled slightly as the dwarves were led up. Their heavy footsteps shook the very core of his home. Thranduil sat quietly waiting with his excited daughter bouncing on his lap. He could barely hold her down with him.
First, a bold and a red-head dwarf came into view. Behind them was Thorin Oakenshield with a white haired dwarf and others following behind them. Twelve in total.
Was this the company that Oakenshield had taken with him to recapture a mountain?
Did he not know there was a dragon waiting for them in Erebor? Just like Thranduil suspected. This was the exact reason why he should be stopped from his quest. He was only going to anger Smaug. That wouldn't do.
"Dada! Dada!" his daughter screamed as the dwarves came into full view.
With her small finger she pointed at them. Her eyes wide with curiosity. "Dwavs!"
From un top his throne Thranduil could see the dwarves' eyes softening when they spotted the toddle. Odd.
"Welcome to my kingdom, prisoners. Have you enjoyed your w-" "Dwavs!"
Thranduil smiled, trying to hide his annoyance. He was building up to something here. "Yes, sweetheart, dwarves. Now if you can keep quiet for a few seconds then I can tell them about their coming fate. I-"
"Dwavs!"She got off of her father' lap. He grabbed her arm right before she could stumble down the steps of the stairs that lead to his throne. "Touch! Touch!" she cried out.
He realized that he wasn't going to get his lines out if he would keep his daughter away from the dwarves. So together with her he descended the steps. "Is this better little dove?" She shook his head. "Down!" she ordered.
Thranduil had no choice but to put her down. The dwarves snickered.
This was not what was supposed to happen. Not at all.
On wobbly feet she made her way to the first dwarf she could reach. For some reason she wasn't afraid of him. That surprised Thranduil. After all the dwarf was bold with tattoos on his bald skin. Also was he missing a piece of his right ear?
Thranduil tried to get his threatening kingly demeanor back on track but it wasn't going to happen. For some reason they found his daughter adorable. Dwarves. Why?
She was now close to the bald dwarf. She outstretched her hand. The dwarf took it that she wanted to be picked up. But she had other plans. Instead of allowing herself to be picked up, as soon as the dwarf bend down, she reached for his beard and tucked.
The whole room fell silent. Thranduil looked on in shock. He wasn't sure what to do.
His daughter happily cheered and made noises as she was playing with the dwarves beard. Apparenty the beard was something interesting to her. Maybe because none of the man of her own race wore anything similair on their chins.
It appeared as if she was pulling rather harshly. Now Thranduil started to feel sorry for the dwarf. That must hurt quite a bit. Still, he was too shocked to move.
Until the tension was lifted as the dwarf began to chuckle.
"Now, now little one. You have quite a fierce grip." He picked her up and held her on one arm. Which was rather hard to do with his hands shackled.
She kept playing with his beard as the dwarves' eyes re-focused on the elven king. "Do you always treat visitors of your land this way? We were merely crossing the forest when your prancing man took us prisoner. Without any reason, may I add."
Thranduil blinked a few times. It was quite strange to have this discussion with his prisoners as they were holding his toddler daughter. "You had no right to travel through my kingdom" he said quietly.
"Traveling over land shouldn't need the admittance of prancing elves. We didn't bother anyone as we traveled!" the red-haired man cried out.
"Wavel!" the toddler cried out to mimick the dwarves.
The dwarves 'aw-ed' in unison. Even Thorin Oakenshield himself looked at the child with affection in his eyes. Oh bother.
This was going to be an awful long day.
