Imagine Thorin riding a lawn mower - Part 2

This is a second part to a story back from January. Many people asked for a second part to it and I just never got to it. Until now ^^

Second part to the imagine; Imagine Thorin riding a lawn mower.

Because it was such a long time ago that this was posted, here is the last part of that imagine so that you don't have to read all the way back. If you want to read the first part, it was January 20, when it was posted.

Your face heated up. Why did you do that? You weren't on your lawn chair anymore! What would he think?!

And sure enough, Thorin stopped his lawn mower and got off.

You sat down on the grass, silently praying that he hadn't seen the flying book.

"Miss (y/n)?" A dark voice filled your chest with warmth and fear.

"Uhm... yes? Yes!" you said, jumping up from the ground. You couldn't see his face due to the fact that neither of you was particularly tall.

"Did you dislike this book?" Thorin asked. The amusement in his voice was all too clear.

You silently banged your head against the fence. "What book?" you tried.

Thorin chuckled. He stood on the tip of his toes to show you the book. "This one. These are your favourites, aren't they?" he asked.

Without answering, you took the book back from him. What could you say to lessen the embarassment? Many options float around your mind but none of them were believable. "I-" you began. Nothing else came out.

"I like those books too" Thorin offered.

A smile creaped up on your lips.

"Maybe I can come over once so that we can discuss one of them?"

Your heart stopped.

And then it almost beat so hard it was bound to give you a heart attack.

"That would be lovely" you said, your voice softer then usual.

What neither of you could see was that you both placed a hand on the same spot of the fence. Only on different sides.

And now, it continues...

The chairs were in place. Or were they? No, they had to be opposite of each other.

Once again you ran over to your two favorite chairs that had a perfect view over your garden. You had dragged them around for almost two hours now, trying to get the perfect setting.

Thorin, your neighbour, was going to come over. To talk about a book.

A book that you loved. A book that often used to calm yourself down when he wasn't wearing a shirt and - You quickly grabbed a glass of ice cold water to calm yourself down. He would be there any second now.

What kind of impression would you make if you were overheated because of his glistening -

No! Behave yourself.

For the first time that night you felt alright with the position of the chairs. They were across from one another, but slightly turned the other way so you weren't forced to look at one another.

And maybe so that you could sneak a peak when he wasn't looking.

*Ding dong*

You almost dropped the bowl of cookies. Thankfully for you they landed almost perfectly on the small table they were meant to go to. "Just calm yourself down, it is just a conversation between two book lovers" you reminded yourself.

When you opened the door you were greeted by a big bouquet of roses. Twelve red roses that he sheepishly held up for you.

"It felt appro- I just thought, well, here" he handed them to you. "Do you like roses?"

Pretty soon your cheeks were just as red as the flowers in your hands. "I love roses" you said, taking in the smell.

"Come in" you said, stepping out of the way.

Thorin walked in, softly brushing your arm with his as he walked by. He followed behind as you showed him the way to the sitting room. "You have a beautiful home. The furniture is very similair to mine" he said.

You looked back over your shoulder. "Really? I swear I didn't broke into your home to take a look" you said jokingly.

When he raised an eyebrow you quickly added: "Not that I have ever thought of doing that, breaking in that is... Do you want a chocolate chip cookie?" You gestured towards the bowl as you went off to find a vase for the roses.

"Oh god I am making a fool of myself" you said. You took your time with the vase so that you could calm yourself down.

He was standing with the book in his hands when you returned. "Do you read more books like this or was this a one time thing?" he asked, skipping through the pages.

The vase went beautifully with your cabinet. "Well, I have to admit that I don't often read these kind of books. I am the kind of reader who loves Sherlock Holmes and The Hobbit" you answered.

"And this book was disappointing to you?" he asked, a small smile playing in the corner of his lips.

"Well, u-hu."

He put the book down with a deep laugh. "When I don't like a book I normally don't throw it into my neighbours' backgarden." Thorin looked at you with those deep beautiful blue eyes. It was like he looked straight through you.

"Uhm, did I do that?" You picked up the bowl with cookies, almost shoving it under his nose. "Here. So, you wanted to talk about the book?" you said to turn the conversation in another direction.

Thorin took the hint and sat down with a smile. "I thought that since we both seem to like books, some of them at least, we could talk a bit about them."

You nodded.

"And judging by these cookies, that was a great idea. Did you bake them yourself?" he asked.

"Yes, I did. I like to bake every now and then." You took a bite of your own cookie. "What about you? What do you do besides reading and mowing your lawn?"

A deep chuckle escaped his throat. A wonderful sound. "You saw that, did you now? I do mow my lawn quite a bit. Our neighbour who lives behind me complains quite often about the state of my garden. So I try to look after it a bit more."

"I think your backgarden looks great. She complains more often, don't worry about it. You don't have to keep it as short as you do for it to look good" you said.

Thorin cocks his head to one side. "You have looked at my garden a few times before?"

You almost choked on your mouthful. "N-no, well, yes, but that is because I didn't understand how fast your grass was growing" you explained hurriedly. "What is your favorite book?"

He smiled, looking down at his hands. "My favorite book would be 'The life of Pi'. Have you read it before?"

You nodded. "I really liked that book as well. What I love most was how Pi talked about not understanding why you have to choose between different religions. Because basically, to him and to me, they are mostly the same."

Thorin leaned back in the chair. "That is a new viewing point, yes. What did you think about the two different endings to the story?" He grabbed another cookie.

"I think that the story that Pi told wasn't the correct one. But it is interesting to read about what the mind can do to protect you."

"You mean that the mind protects itself because it couldn't deal with the real events that took place? I agree with that. I am not a tiger expert but I don't think the animal would pass on an easy target in such a tiny space" Thorin explained.

"Exactly! And especially when they passed out on the beach at the end. If I were a tiger I would have killed him as he laid there."

"Probably. But you are not a tiger" Thorin said, his eyes were twinkling.

You laughed. "No, obviously I am not a tiger."

You noticed how his hand, that was resting on his left knee, was slightly trembling. If you hadn't focused on it you wouldn't have noticed. Maybe he was just as nervous as you. After all you had never really talked before.

And now he was visiting you at your house.

"Your favorite book would be The Hobbit?" he asked, getting you out of your trance.

"Yes, it is. Though I have to admit that I saw the movies first. And I prefer them to the book" you said, hiding a smile behind your next cookie.

His eyes widened. "A book lover who prefers a movie to a book? Now, how hard did you hit your head when you fell down?" he asked.

"I am proud to say that I almost never fall. Except for when I do. Which would be almost every morning as I try to get out of the bed unharmed. Never seem to get the hang of it though" you said.

He chuckled, again, that deep chuckle that made you want to sit on his lap and pur to your hearts content. "Seriously though, you really prefer the movies over the book?"

You nodded. "I am afraid I do. Maybe it's because I never read the book until I was a grown-up."

"You should be ashamed of yourself" Thorin said playfully.

"I know, I know. And I should be even more ashamed of myself because I like the movie better."

"Hmm, I can understand why you would. But let me ask you this" Thorin said, putting his cookie down for dramatic effect.

You leaned in.

"Are you a secret fangirl too?"

You rolled of your chair, laughing. The serious look on his face didn't help you to calm down. As you were rolling on the floor you didn't see that Thorin tried to look hurt. But soon enough he was laughing along with you.

"I take it you are not a fangirl?" he asked after he calmed down enough to talk again.

You shook your head violently. "I just didn't think you would be one too." After you calmed down from your laughing fit, you could feel the hiccups coming up. You placed a hand on your mouth as the first one escaped your lips.

"Now that is downright adorable" Thorin said, winking at you. He offered you a hand to pull you up. "We can't have a beautiful woman such as yourself sitting on the ground, now can we?"

It dawned on you that you were standing really close to each other. Chest to chest to be exact.

"Have you ever noticed that I have the same name as Thorin Oakenshield, from the book?"

"A small fact I overlooked" you lied.

He smiled warmly down at you. "Would you say you fangirl more over him than over the other characters?"

You nodded as if you were in trance. His blue eyes drilled into yours, robbing you over the ability to speak.

"Would I be right to assume you wouldn't pass over a chance to go on a date with the re-"

"Yes!" you shouted before he had a chance to finish his sentence. You let your head fall against his chest. Sometimes you could really use a floor that would swallow you whole on command. Or the other person.

You felt the rumble of his chest as he laughed. "I am glad to hear that. You know, I have been meaning to ask you out for a long time now."

"No you didn't" Your voice was silenced by his shirt. Why was he wearing that anyway?

He softly stroked your back, enjoying your closeness. "I did. And now I am afraid I will have to conquer your heart since you have already taken mine."
