Imagine Thorin and Dwalin acting as parents

Imagine from thereandbackagainimagines; Imagine losing your parents at a young age and, over time, refering to Thorin and Dwalin as your parents.

I am not sure whether the person whom requested this on the Tumblr page meant it as;

A. Dwalin and Thorin are together and you refer to them as your parents

B. Or Dwalin and Thorin are just the two that look after you the most so you refer to them as your parents.

I went with B for the people who don't like Thorin/Dwalin pairing :)

You walked down the street with a hood over your head. Enough to keep you dry yet let you see enough to not bump into anyone. It was crucial not to get noticed by anyone.

Then why did you wear an outfit that stood out? That is a question that you really shouldn't be asking.

It was your job to look ahead and see if the coast was clear. The rest of the company was waiting for your signal just outside of town. None of them would enter a city of men they didn't know yet.

You were about to report back when you spotted an inn on the other side of the muddy road. Several man were hanging outside. Literally hanging onto everything and everyone who let them because they were too drunk to stand on their own two feet.

"A drink has never hurt me." You walked in with your hood still covering most of your face. You weren't tall enough to catch many people' eyes. Only a few regulars looked up but soon continued talking.

Apparently you weren't a threat.

And that was partially true. If they just judged you on your looks then no one could know what was hidden underneath; a weapon arsenal that Fili would be proud of.

"Ah, a young lass. We don't mind you sitting with us" a burley voice rang through the inn. He pushed back a chair with his foot, opposite of him. The last place you wanted to be seated tonight.

You smiled at him. "I think I'll pass for now."

The man grumbled and took another sip, nothing more for now.

There were still some empty seats at the back of the inn. You went over there to claim one for your own lovely behind. The other dwarves couldn't say that you hadn't thought of them; there were enough empty seats around you for all of them.

And they would join you soon enough, you were sure of it. Knowing your fathers all too well they were already out searching for you. Despite promising you that they would leave you to it this time.

Your heart jumped in your chest. It felt good to have those two old sodds looking after you like they did.

Your parents were killed by goblins whom traveled south of their mountain. In fact many of the villagers lost their lives that faithful night.

The dwarves just happened to stumble upon your burning city after they had lost their own home. Some had searched for survivers. Others traveled onwards because they didn't have the food nor the time to look after wounded humans.

What they didn't know at the time was that there also lived dwarrow in that particular city of men.

Thorin and Dwalin were a couple of the few dwarrows who did went looking for survivors. The dwarven prince ordered some of his man to look with him.

That is how they found you; crying your eyes out as one of the beams of your old home was about to drop down on you. You didn't see the danger, you were too young. All you wanted was your mommy and daddy back.

Dwalin was the one who held the beam up as Thorin raced forward to drag you out. You pointed back to tell them that your parents were still in there. But they didn't take the risk.

Thorin did want to go back in but Dwalin stopped him. "They are dead, Thorin. There is no chance they survived the first collapse." The prince had looked at the house one more time before picking you up and taking you with him.

Dis officially adopted you that day. Fili was only a few years old, just like yoursef. So you both had a friend to play with you. Thankfully you both got along

But even if Dis was now your new mother, you were most commonly seen around Thorin and Dwalin. They would play with you and take you wherever they went.

Except for the battle field.

You were waiting for them to come back many nights. And they always made it.

"I couldn't live with myself if I never saw your happy face again princess" Dwalin always told you after he came back safe and sound. He loved to take you out on 'adventures'. He was also the one who taught you how to wield an axe.

Thorin never said anything about his journeys when he returned. But he was sure to cuddle you fiercely for three days in a row. You even got to sleep in his bed when he just returned. And sometimes he let you slip in on other days as well.

He taught you all about Khuzdul when they discovered you were a dwarf. And he would teach you how to get lost anywhere you went. Not on purpose, that one.

"A lassie all on her own. I don't mind keeping you company." The same man from before made himself comfortable on a bench next to you. "Are you looking for some company?" he said, wiggling his eyebrows.

"No, but I can help you with that stupid smirk on her your face" you offered.

The man laughed. "And how are ya going to do that? With a kiss?" He pursed his lips, moving closer to you. Something landed in between you. A battle axe.

"Hello Grasper!" you greeted the all too familair axe.

"What about I wipe that smirk of your face with one of my knuckle dusters?" Dwalin growled.

The man got up with his hands in the air. "I-I didn't mean offense, master dwarf. I simply thought the lass was all on her own."

"And that makes it alright to force yourself on her?" Thorin growled, appearing next to his friend.

You waved your hand at them. "These fine old man are my fathers. Fathers, this is some man that was bugging me and didn't get the hint."

Dwalin raised an eyebrow while Thorin folded his arms over his chest. "Is that so?" they asked in unison.

"Fathers?" the man asked confused.

"Problem with it fiddle-brain?" Dwalin said, bearing his teeth.

"Two man can't have a child together" he said before realizing that that was probably not the smartest thing to say right now.

Thorin smiled sarcastically. "And yet here we are, with you hitting on our daughter. What to do about that?" He sighed deeply as if in thought. "What do you think, Dwalin? Will we let him get away with it?"

"Not a chance" Dwalin said. He directed a threatening glare at the man. "I will see his insides for this."

"And what if he would just leave right now and promised to never bother me again? Would that be alright daddy?" You put emphasis on the 'daddy' part. He always melted when you called him that.

"Hnghh." He was in doubt. Grumpily, he put both his axes away. He pointed a finger at the man who froze out of fear. "Only because I don't want my daughter to see violence will I let you get away with this. Next time, your family will find your head on their kitchen table."

The man nodded violently.

"Scram" Thorin said without giving him any more of his time. "I thought your goal was clear" he said sitting down.

You batted your eyelashes. "I got thirsty."

Dwalin wrapped an arm around your shoulders. "Then we shall see that you get somethingto drink." He signaled the waitress.

"You are rewarding this behaviour?" Thorin asked him.

Dwalin shrugged. "I fancy a drink myself as well. Ah, three ales please." He looked at his king. "That is, if my friend over here wants one too?"

You stiffled a laugh.

Thorin shook his head smiling. "Three is alright."

"It will be right up."

"Never again" Thorin whispered to you as soon as the waitress left.

"Promised daddy."
