What had first been slightly annoying to you, quickly became a blessing.
They treated you like a child ever since your true age was revealed to the dwarves. Some of them liked to read you to sleep at night. And that was alright. You heard some amazing stories.
On other days, though, you really were a lucky hobbit.
One day the Company had to cross a river. The current was quite strong and deemed unsafe to someone as young as yourself. That is why your uncle, Bilbo, was forced to wade through the water like the dwarves, while you were carried.
You had your choice of dwarf like you did ever since they started looking after you.
And you picked the strongest dwarf of them all; Bombur.
You thought that he was more than likely the one who'd have the easiest time walking through the river. And you figured that you would stay dry if you picked him.
Bilbo kept shooting you dirty looks the times when you dared to look back at him. He wasn't too happy about how the dwarves treated you. "Spoiling them rotten" he muttered under his breath.
Camp was set up that night and you were ready to go to sleep when you realized you had to go... for some private time... behind a bush. A tree would also suffice.
As soon as you got up from your spot, all heads turned to you.
"What's wrong little one? Can't sleep?" Gloin asked.
You laughed sheepishly. "Something like that, yes. I'll be right back."
But Dwalin was already blocking your path when you turned around. These darned dwarves.
"What is the problem, wee one?"
How were you going to put this... The whole being carried thing was cute, but this was just embarassing. "I-I need to... do... something..." you said, looking at the ground. You were holding the bottom of your shirt with both your hands, playing with the fabric.
"Ah, is that so? Shall I go with you to protect you?"
Your cheeks heated up. "I can do it myself!"
The company laughed, most of the dwarves turned back to what they were doing now that Dwalin was handling things.
"Of course you can, because you're big and strong!" He ruffled your hair. "Lead the way. I'll follow."
"The- What- NO! You don't have to come with me! I've had it!" You stomped your feet on the ground. "I'm not a dwarf! So I am not a child anymore! I don't need someone to come with me when I need to take a dump I want to go on my own! Did you hear me?"
No one looked up. Dwalin simply smiled down at you. "I heard you. Now, let's go before we have to change you."
He pushed you and you finally walked forward. Maybe this situation got out of hand.
But as you finally sat down and did your thing, a wolf cry could be heard from deep inside the forest... it was kind of nice to know a big, strong dwarf was watching over you when you were in a vulnerable position.
