Imagine telling the Company you're only 17

An imagine from imaginexhobbit: Imagine being a human and telling the Company you're only 17, then they start treating you like a baby because that's like 2-3 years old to them.

Bilbo and you were the only ones, besides Gandalf, that weren't dwarves in this Company. You still didn't know about most of their rituals and you were sure they wouldn't let you in on them. Dwarves were very secretive about their, well, about everything surrounding them.

You weren't even sure that they had told you the truth when they introduced themselves. Maybe Thorin wasn't called Thorin... Maybe his real name was Buttercup? You snickered. It would make your day if it was true.

"What are you thinking of?" Bilbo asked. Unbeknownst to you, you had been smiling when you were thinking about 'Buttercup'.

"Why? I am not thinking about anything master Hobbit" you said innocently.

He rolled his eyes. "That just means I don't want to know what you are thinking of" he said, ending with a sigh.

You chuckled.

"Something we are missing?" Kili asked, hearing your chuckle. Him and his brother slowed down so they could walk closer to you.

"Nothing at all master dwarf. Bilbo here simply thought that I was thinking of something. Which I wasn't" you explained.

"That can't be true (y/n)" Fili pointed out.

Kili nodded in agreement and Bilbo hummed.

"Everyone always thinks of something. It is simply impossible to not think of anything" Kili said, mimicking Thorin.

You all laughed.

"Besides," Bilbo said, "I have known you for long enough now. There is always something on your mind. Little ones like you always think of something you shouldn't."

You shrugged. "I have no idea what you are talking about, uncle Bilbo."

Fili and Kili both looked in surprise from one hobbit to the other. "Are you related?" they asked in unison.

Bilbo nodded. "Aye, we are related. (Y/N) here comes from the Took side of the family. That side of the family is always looking for trouble." He eyed you suspiciously.

"Maybe I learned that from you uncle" you said cheekily.

He rolled his eyes. "I doubt that, (y/n). It must be your age that has something to do with your behaviour."

The interest of the dwarves brothers awoke again.

"You never told us how old you are (y/n)" Kili said.

"Aye," Fili joined in, "you must be around our age, right?"

"And how old are you, may I ask?" you asked.

"Well, I am 82 and my 'little' brother over here is only 77" Fili said, rubbing Kili's head.

Kili smacked his hand away. "I am not little. May I point out that I am taller then you?"

Bilbo walked up to walk in between the two brothers. "Don't start all of that nonsense again. Your uncle threatened to put you on pony duty for the remainder of the quest. Do you really want to risk it?"

Fili and Kili looked at each other before looking down. "No" they both said.

"On a more happier note" you continued the conversation. "I am 17 years old. So I am a bit younger then you" you said jokingly.

Both dwarves held still.

"You are only 17?" Fili asked, perplexed.

Neither you or Bilbo noticed their discomfort. You simply kept walking to keep up.

Suddenly, you were picked up and Kili was carrying you.

Before you could ask what was going on, your leader already did it for you.

"What is going on back there?" Thorin bellowed from the front of the line. He was making his way back to you, an angry glare plastered on his face. It was very intimidating.

Fili and Bilbo stood in front of you.

Your uncle wanted to protect you against the dwarf leader. While you weren't sure what Fili was doing.

"Uncle! (Y/N) needs to be carried. She is only 17 years old!" he yelled.

Thorin stopped dead in his tracks. The other members of the company turned around to look at you in shock. Gloin's mouth dropped open.

"MASTER BAGGINS!" Thorin suddenly shouted.

Your uncle didn't move away from you, although he was getting quite scared.

Thorin walked all the way up to him. They were almost standing nose to nose. "What do you think you're doing, bringing such a young child such as (y/n) on this quest?" he hissed.

Bilbo took a step back. "E-excuse me?"

"Let me go!" you yelled from atop Kili. He was still holding you and you were quite done with it.

Thorin looked up at you, his eyes softened. "Sssh, little one. We will stop soon so that you may rest" he said gently. A smile crossed his lips.

"Thorin, (y/n) hasn't eaten in two hours. Dwarflings need food every hour, I don't know how it works for hobbits" Oin said.

Worry spread amongst the Company.

Bofur turned to Bombur, who nodded. "I have some spare bread that (y/n) can eat for now. But I don't think it will be enough. Young ones need to eat more."

Thorin nodded. "It is a start." He looked at you one more time. "It will be alright (y/n). We will take care of you." With a glare aimed at Bilbo, he turned around to lead the Company on.

"We will find shelter so that you may sleep and eat a little" Balin said, winking at you.

"CAN SOMEONE PUT ME DOWN? I AM NOT A CHILD!" you shouted.

Dwalin chuckled. "They always think they are older then they really are. It is quite adorable."

You huffed. "Bilbo! Why are you not saying anything?" you said annoyed.

Your uncle didn't meet your eyes. "Because they are already mad at me for not treating a 'baby' the right way (y/n). I am not going to make it worse."

And that is how you were doomed to spend the rest of the quest being treated as a baby by the Company. Something you got used to quite easily.
