Imagine snow with Frodo

This is the site where I get my random prompts from for this month: http://artprompts.org/situation-prompts/

The random situation prompt for today is: 'Standing silently in the quiet snowfall.'

With....

Frodo. But it isn't really important in this story, as you will see.

I didn't know where I wanted this imagine to go so I just started writing. And it turned out this way. It is one I am proud of not because the character is written well... Maybe you will understand when you read it :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You heard the soft footsteps, the grinding of snow beneath bare feet on this early December morning. Though hobbits were known to be light on their feet you could hear them when there was snow involved.
The needles of the pine-trees were covered with dusty snow. One soft blow of the cold mountain wind would blow it off, scattering it around on the frozen ground.
It was a small miracle you had made it all the way to the lake without falling. Especially when you considered how 'light' on your feet you were.
From the corner of your eye you could see a smaller creature stopping beside you.
His brown, dark curls were a little damp from the falling snow that had melted on his hair. The water drops shone as the late morning sun touched them lightly. Nature was amazing as always.
Your companion didn't force himself on you. He was perfectly content just standing next to you.
Like you, he appreciated nature and all living things in this wonderous world. Something you had expected from his people but not necessarily from him.
A burden laid on his shoulders that you couldn't even start to describe. Where the small man found the power you may never find out. All you could do was stand next to him to help him carry it.
For now it meant standing next to him and just listening to the sounds around you.
The light music from the fauna and flora that lived together in harmony. The cold of the falling snow didn't bother either of you. It was a welcome reminder that you were still alive.
The quest hadn't brought you down to your knees. Not yet.
Many challenges had yet to come. And everyone that knew would be tested. Pushed over their own boundaries.
If they wouldn't welcome the hardships with a plan and their sword's drawn then they wouldn't live to tell the tale. This was a thought that sometimes made you forget about the hope that still lived in your heart.
While on the other hand you should stay on your guard at all times. To find the balance between these two was something you all had to figure out for yourselves.
Two small rabbits climbed on top of a rock that was located near the lake. They were snowy white with black, small eyes that investigated their surroundings.
You stood perfectly still, no danger to the smaller beings.
One accidentally slipped and brought the other one down with him. Instead of getting up once they landed, they played together in the snow.
A smile appeared on your lips. How you wished you could be like them right now. Playing like there was no care in the world. The blissful ignorance that only children and younger animals possessed.
Once you grew up, that time was over. You were expected to be an adult and behave like one.
And yet it was one of the most important and powerful lessons you would learn in your life; Stay young at heart.
When you take pride in the small things you have accomplished, look at everything with wonder and see the miracle behind each living creature, you will stay young.
Being young has nothing to do with naivety or ignorance. It is about appreciating life itself.
And most important; appreciating and living the life you have been given.
The fellowship might not all make it till the end. A fact you had to learn how to deal with. But for now you would cherish every moment you had with them. Making sure that the special moments were made into memories.
Memories that you could keep for the rest of your life.
Maybe you would grow old one day and look back at all your adventures and smile. Something you prayed for with all your heart.
"Some day, we will look back at this adventure together" Frodo said quietly.
You nodded, one single tear rolling down your cheek. "Aye, that we will."
