"Are you still ignoring me?" Nathalie asked. They sat at the kitchen table as Nathalie was doing her homework. She still had a lot to do so talking to a doll might not be the thing she should be doing right now.

Trying to come across as indifferent she didn't look at him.

And honestly, she could feel glare. It wasn't necessary to see it when Thorin Oakenshield was sending you his death glare. Even if he was a doll.

She snickered. He was a 'doll'. Maybe she could call him that from now on. Just to annoy him.

Nathalie dared to look in his direction.

Which she shouldn't have done.

Maybe she should just stick with calling him Thorin.

"Come on. It wasn't that bad" she said, throwing her pen down on the table.

Thorin still had his arms crossed. He had been like this for days now. Ever since she had left him with her mother and her 'dangerous' cat. If only he would have given her cat a chance he could see she wasn't half that bad.

"I don't see what the problem is. Scooby did nothing to you. She just took a sniff at your hair" Nathalie said, trying not to laugh at the thought.

Thorin rolled his eyes and huffed. "You really don't understand, do you?" he murmured angrily.

He still didn't want to talk to her. But he couldn't handle her ignorance much longer.

"What do you mean?" Nathalie asked, her focus back on her homework.

Thorin gave up on the silent treatment because obviously this woman wasn't going to learn on her own. He climbed on top of her book so she was forced to pay him her full attention. "You didn't take me with you" he said as the only explanation.

That should be enough.

She only blinked.

Oh Mahal what was he supposed to do with this woman...

He took a deep breath.

"Who knows what could have happened to you? I do have a sword with me, if you hadn't noticed." He patted the plastic sword that was attached to his body. "It is my duty to protect you" he said, holding his head up high.

Nathalie couldn't control herself and started laughing. This time she couldn't and wouldn't stop it.

If only she would have opened her eyes she could have seen Thorin's face turning beet red.

"I DEMAND TO KNOW WHAT IS SO FUNNY!" he yelled.

Nathalie was hiccuping from laughter. "It is just that *hick*," more laughter, "you are not here to protect me. *Hick*. You are here because I bought you and you are a collector's item."

This time she did look him straight in the eyes.

"That is what you think" he said stubbornly. "I don't believe in luck or chance. There is a reason why I was brought to you. One other then you buying me" he added quickly after you opened your mouth to interupt.

She watched his face soften.

"You are a bright young woman who works too hard. I... I care." Here he mumbled something to himself. "Take me with you next time" he said with a determined voice.

There was a short silence before she nodded.

"That is settled then" Thorin said happily. He jumped off the table. "Now, you will stop doing homework and play a game with me" he ordered.

And who could argue with little Thorin telling you not to do your homework?

Nathalie, that is.

"This has to be finished in two weeks" she complained, pointing at all the books in front of her.

Thorin raised a sarcastic eyebrow. "And I believe that it is already good. It doesn't always need to be perfect" he said.

She huffed but didn't say anything else about the paper. Instead she helped him open the doors to where he knew his favorite game was hidden.

"This time you won't play with those silly things. Use me instead. I don't like the picture on that card" he said, placing them back in the box as Nathalie had just taken them out.

"They are a part of the game and you know it" she said, taking them back out.

Thorin stomped his right foot on the ground. "I will not stand for it!" he growled. "That actor knows nothing of the hardship I faced. I will not have you play with that card pretending that he is me! You are my human and you will not be adoring him when I am here!"

Nathalie rolled her eyes. She was used to his outbursts by now. "Fine. We won't use the cards today" she said, speaking like she was talking to a child.

"They won't come out ever again. Or I will rip them to pieces" he mumbled angrily.

"What was that?" Nathalie asked. The warning in her voice couldn't be missed.

He cleared his throat. "That I appreciate it" he grumbled.

"That is better."
