"You know what we should do?" Pippin asked. He jumped up from the ground, his eyes wide with glee.
"I don't think any of us want to know when you have that look on your face" Merry mumbled.
Pippin hit him on the shoulder, causing Merry to dip his nose into his bowl of soup. "That's the spirit Merry! We should sing a song! And not just any song." He looked at you. "(Y/N)! Are there any good songs from your world that can cheer Merry up?"
"Please don't (y/n)" Merry' muffled voice tried to warn you as he wiped his nose.
"Hmmmm...." You put a finger on your lip, thinking which song would suit this situation the best. "Well, there is a song that I know that we sing to small children... And it kind of has Merry' name in it?"
Pippin clapped his hands. "That's perfect! Please, please sing it (y/n)!"
"Please don't" Merry groaned.
Aragorn looked on in amusement as the others settled in to hear your song. Everyone except for Merry who was apparently trying to get swallowed by the ground.
Which, of course, didn't work.
"It is called; 'Mary had a little lamb'." They clapped as you stood up, ready for the show.
"What if I promised to never complain about skipping second breakfast ever again?" Merry tried, but it was already too late.
"Mary had a little lamb
Little lamb, little lamb
Mary had a little lamb
Its fleece was white as snow
And everywhere that Mary went
Mary went, Mary went
Everywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go
He followed her to school one day
School one day, school one day
He followed her to school one day
Which was against the rule
It made the children laugh and play
Laugh and play, laugh and play
It made the children laugh and play
To see a lamb at school
And so the teacher turned him out
Turned him out, turned him out
And so the teacher turned him out
But still he lingered near
And waited patiently
Patiently, patiently
And wai-aited patiently
Til Mary did appear
Mary had a little lamb
Little lamb, little lamb
Mary had a little - "
Aragorn was the first to be alerted by the sound that came from the bushes. Something was bustling, quickly making its way towards camp.
You stopped singing when you saw the alarmed look in his eyes.
"What's coming?" you semi-whispered.
He turned his back to you, his sword in hand. Boromir was quick to stand beside him. "I don't think it is big. Whatever it is, it seems to have be having trouble to get here" he said softly.
Aragorn nodded, not taking his eyes away from the moving bush.
The lamb jumped out off the bushes before anyone really understood what was going on.
The hobbits jumped back when the animal came running straight towards them. Sam swallowed thickly before reaching for his own sword and placing himself in front of Frodo.
Pippin was already halfway up a tree when the lamb was only inches away from Merry.
The latter closed his eyes. "Just think of honey, bread and elevensies, and all will be al- AHHH!" Merry jumped up and down, from one foot onto the other. All the while he put his hands on his bum. "It bit me! It bit me!" he screamed.
On one hand your heart was telling you that you should be feeling bad for your friend, but... Your brain joined the occasion and decided that this was too funny.
Your head turned red from trying to hold back the laughter.
Your self-restraint broke when Pippin fell down from the tree, laughing out loud. Now there was no stopping you. The both of you laughed and laughed until your stomache hurt.
The others only smiled or looked on with confused faces.
By now, Merry was standing still. Looking sternly at the lamb he said; "What did you do that before? It wasn't me who sang that afwul song. It was (y/n)!" He pointed at you.
"Bleeeeh!" the lamb responded.
Merry walked off, and so did the lamb. The hobbit stopped walking to look back at it. "Now, on your way! Leave me alone!" As he started walking again, so did the little lamb.
"I think you've met a new friend Merry. Just like the song!" you spoke through your tears of laughter.
And so it was that the Fellowship of the Ring got a new traveling partner. The lamb that followed Merry everywhere.
