Your hands lovingly followed the edges of the petals. The yellow rose in your hand was beautiful but couldn't compare to the golden light that his hair emitted. You inhaled deeply.

That man.

It was only a few weeks ago that you woke up in this new world.

One morning you woke up to find that the bed you were sleeping it wasn't your own. After inspecting the room and walking outside you realized that the world around you had changed as well.

The first creature you ran into all those weeks ago was an elf called Elrond. Together with him you were still trying to figure out what happened, how you ended up here.

If you were really honest with yourself you would admit that you weren't that eager to go home. Rivendell was wonderful. There was so much knowdlegde and kindness here. It wouldn't be a shame if Lord Elrond couldn't find a way back for you.

Especially after meeting that man that morning.

You sat down on a stone bench, inhaling the sweet scent of the rose. The picture of him sprang back to the front of your memory.

That morning, after waking up, you had left for the kitchen. Being a guest for so long you felt like you needed to do something in return for their kindness.

They didn't have to let you stay under their roof after all.

You helped out in the kitchen by showing the cooks some new techniques and teach them new recipes. They didn't have all the ingredients you needed for some of your favorite dishes, but you could learn to live without them.

The food here was better than it was back in your own world, any way.

Fruit tastes sweeter and vegetables more fresh than you had ever tasted them before. Some day you would ask to help out in the gardens. Maybe you could find out the way they tended to their fruit trees and vegetables.

After breakfast you took your usual morning walk.

The beauty that lay hidden in this place was almost unnatural. How something so breath taking, so pure and loving, could exist in the same world where unspeakable evil lingered, was hard to understand.

"Tjirp, tjirp, tjirp."

Birds were chirping all around you, chasing each other in the clear sky. Yet one of them sounded as if they were in trouble.

You tried to follow the sound.

"Tjirp, tjirp, tjirp, tjirp!"

The tjirping became more frantic, you tried to listen, locate where the desperate cries for help were coming from.

"Tjirp."

You hurried down the steps to the bird baths. Some of the birds who were bathing looked up as you rushed in. They didn't fly off, they had nothing to fear in Rivendell.

None of them seemed to be in trouble but still you could hear the cries of a bird in need. It sounded like it was coming from behind the tree line. You rushed over and found a small black bird.

It looked up at you from the ground. One of its wings hang limp to its side.

You got down on your knees, picking the bird up carefully trying not to hurt it. "What have you done little one?" you asked. The bird relaxed in your hands, welcoming your body warmth.

"Let's see if we can patch you up with one of my potions." You rose back to your feet, thinking about the quickest way to get back to your room, when you bumped in to someone. Your hands protectively held the bird against your stomache, turning it away from whatever object you walked into.

For only a few brief seconds, which felt like minutes, was it completely silent. Even the birds stopped their happy chattering.

You looked right at the objects you had walked into. It wasn't an object but a man with golden hair. Your mouth open just a crack.

He mirrored your look to a T. When the bird in your hands chirped to break the silence, he regained his composure. He bowed. "My lady, I offer you my apologies. I hope that neither you or the bird have gotten hurt?" He looked up at you through his long lashes.

"N-no we are quite alright" you managed to say. You felt your cheeks heating up, your hands getting damp.

His eyes left your eyes to check on the bird in your hands. "He got hurt" he said thoughtfully. The male elf bend down on one knee, looking at it more intently. "I have a potion in my room that may help him. I can take him from your hands, my lady."

You were only capable of a small nod. Before you knew it, his hands enveloped yours, picking up the bird from your hands.

"I promise you that he is in good hands." The elf smiled at you. "You may come over and check on him this afternoon. If you would like that, that is."

"Yes!" you said a little too quickly.

Dimples appeared in his cheeks as he smiled. Your heart leaped right out of your chest.

"My room is situated nearby the fountains. You may come over near the end of the afternoon. Lady..." he looked at you.

"Lady (y/n)" you answered.

He nodded. "Lady (y/n)" he repeated, trying out the foreign name. "A beautiful name for a breathtaking woman. My name is Glorfindel." He turned around. "I will see you this afternoon."

You stared at him until he turned a corner, disappearing from your view. "I will be there" you whispered.

Some distance away now Glorfindel himself was already looking forward to the afternoon that would arrive soon. He couldn't wait to see you again.

Now, you were sitting here on the stone bench with the yellow rose in your hands. His smile wouldn't leave your thoughts. And that golden hair...

The moment was almost there. The moment where it wouldn't be inappropriately early for you to show up at his house.

The yellow rose stayed behind on the bench as you went on your way to Glorfindel.
