Imagine adopting a puppy with Thorin
Imagine from thereandbackagainimagines; Imagine adopting a puppy with Thorin.

"Come in."
You straightened your back before you walked in. There was no reason why he would refuse your request. Not after you told him about all the benefits that came with having a dog.
Silently you opened the door, not sure if your husband was working on some important documents or not.
He was, however, waiting for you with a smile. "I was already beginning to worry about where you were, ghivashel" he said jokingly.
You laughed sheepishly. He was probably referring to you coming into his study everyday to drag him away from his work. You shrugged. "Today I wanted to let you work. Tomorrow I won't be that mild" you said, trying to sound stern.
Thorin chuckled. He got up from behind his desk and wrapped you in his arms. A soft kiss was placed against your temple. "I have a feeling you are not here to get me for dinner?" That special smile that was only meant for you covered his lips.
How could anyone expect you to remember what you were here for with that smile?
"Love?"
"Oh, yes!" you said, awaking from your daydream. "I wanted to talk about something."
Thorin nodded, telling you to proceed.
You pulled back a little so that you could look at him more easily. "Don't take this the wrong way" *instant frown face* "but there is something I am missing in our quarters. In our lives, really. And I was thinking of getting one for when you are not there."
Not many knew what went on in Thorin's mind. What was going on in his mind right now wasn't something positive though, that much was clear. His eyes went wide and his lips parted a little. "I thought I was enough for you" escaped his lips.
"I don't mean that I miss something that way âmrâlime! It is just that, when I was younger, we had a family dog. And I miss that" you explained quickly. Seriously how could he think you needed - Never mind.
When he understood what you meant, his shoulders relaxed visibly. He let out a shaky breath. "That is good to hear my love. But... a dog?"
You nodded, convinced that you would win this round. "Aye, a dog. You know that they are very protective over their owners? So when you are not there and Dwalin is too busy I would still have a guard with me."
Thorin's eyebrows went up in surprise. "That is true. Did you prepare this to convince me, my One?"
Instead of answering his question you just continued the list you had practised. "And we have left overs every night so it is not like your people would miss out on any food. Besides, just think about the cuddles you could get from such a little, fluffy creature" you added.
Thorin put up a hand to silence you. "It is alright (y/n). I am positive that we can find you a-"
"Just imagine how many tricks we could teach it! He, or she, could entertain you whenever you want. Isn't that amazing Thorin?" you were still going.
"I am sure it will be lovely. When do you want to pick up a pup?"
"And then I haven't even told you ab- REALLY?!" You threw yourself in his arms, hugging him violently. "Thank you so much! You have no idea what this means to me!" you shouted excitedly. You peppered his neck with kisses.
"I think I do know" he said happily.
Two days later you picked up your puppy. Thorin had insisted on a pup because he wanted to see the little creature grow.
You excuses him of wanting a child and therefor settling for a pup.
Thorin conveniently didn't hear your comment.
And that is how Freckles came into your life. Freckles was an Airedale Terrier. As you walked him back to your quarters he was very interested to see the world around him.
Everything that moved had to be investigated at all cost. And all the smells throughout the mountain...
How could you and Thorin not undertand that he had to sniff them all?
After two small hallways of Freckles keeping still to sniff, running after you, chasing something random, running after you and sniffing some more; Thorin was getting a little irritated.
You told him to keep calm because it was still a pup. He had never seen the outside world so it was only natural that he wanted to explore. At least he followed you.
This, however, was only the smalles hurdle.

"FRECKLES!"
You almost dropped your hairbrush when you heard your husband's angry shout.
"WHY?!"
Deciding that you probably shouldn't ignore this, you tip-toed towards the door. It lead to the main room and it was slightly opened. You opened it a little more to get a better view.
"You are worse than (y/n)! At least she let's me go to work!" Thorin said irritated.
Freckles was sitting in front of him, innocently waging it's tail, while holding a boot between his teeth.
Thorin tried to take a step towards him. But Freckles saw it as a game. He dove out of the dwarves' way only to run around him now.
Your husband growled tiredly. "Mahal *something* *something*."
It was very hard for you to contain your giggles. Maybe you should have helped him but it was just too funny to watch.
"What about I give you a piece of the salami we had left yesterday?" Thorin said. He walked towards the cabinet where he had stored it for later use. Freckles dropped the boot and followed him excitedly.
He was a smart little dog. Of course he had smelled the salami.
"Now that is a good boy." Thorin cut off a little piece and gave bend down to give it to Freckles.
The terrier tried to wait as he was told but the smell was oh so good!
Still, he waited and was rewarded with his prize. In one big gulp he ate the whole thing. He jumped towards Thorin to lick his face in thanks.
The dwarf was surprised by this and fell on his back. Only allowing Freckles more space for licks. "Freckles!"
Together they played for a little while. "Did she put you up to this?" Thorin asked, tickling his tummy. Freckles didn't mind it at all. "I bet she did. For her and your sake I hope my boot is still in tact." There was no real treat in his voice but just to be sure you silently moved back to your mirror.
From that day on Thorin walked around with one boot with two little holes in the middle.
