Imagine a conversation with Elrond

I have found a website that generates random subject prompts.

This I am going to use as a start for the imagines. So they don't come from any of the Tumblr pages. Also, because it is not based on a requested imagine, I will use different characters then just Thorin and Dwalin.

For the elf lovers I will start with an elf...

BECAUSE I LOVE YOU ALL!

Random Subject Prompt: "What does getting old mean to you?" with Lord Elrond.

"You aren't old enough to do that. You can't have this because you are too young. Do you really think you are old enough for that?" you said with a whiny voices. You were kicking pebbles in the river below.

The small stones had to endure your abuse for now. Then, and only then, would the pebbles be free. Saved from you. After you cooled down a little, the dwarves would get it. Mainly the older ones.

Though the young dwarves had not stood up for you when you were arguing with Dori and Balin, you weren't as mad with them as you were with the elders.

It wasn't really your fault. You would admit that you had a part to play in the beehive falling and chasing after the poor hobbit. But Fili, Kili and Ori were there with you. None of it was only your fault.

And still they had found a way to make you the one and only suspect. No matter how hard you complained and pointed out how unfair the situation was, they wouldn't hear of it.

"Only a teen wouldn't take the blame. Start acting your age" Gloin had said. Of course he couldn't stay out of the discussion. He just had to join in. Just like all the other grown-up dwarves.

All you could do was nod and agree with them.

Until now because now you were send away to 'think about what you had done'. They didn't care about the fact you were an adult among your own race. You were send off like a child.

They wouldn't see you in a different light until you acted like an 'adult'.

"They will be turned into stone sooner then hearing me apologize" you murmured grumpily.

"I see you had a disagreement with your companions?" a gentle voice sounded through the valley. There was no one to be seen in the nearby area.

Slowly, as to not raise suspicion, your hand went down to your belt where your dagger was hidden. If someone was ambushing you, you would show them that they were wrong for taking you as an untrained human.

You would show them a trick or two.

Next, there was a chuckle that came from somewhere above you. "There is no need for weapons. Simply look up and you will see who is talking to you."

For a moment you debated whether you should listen to the voice or not. After all, you had no idea to whom the voice belonged. It could be anyone. "What would a grown-up do?" you asked yourself.

"I am not sure and that comes from an adult elf."

Your eyes traveled to the balcony above your head. "Lord Elrond" you gasped, bowing quickly for the elven king.

Even after spending a few days in the elven city you still weren't used to the peace and quietness. All those weeks on the road with the dwarves had made you a little paranoid. Maybe a little was an understatement...

"Two or more different races in one company can result in many a mishap" Elrond spoke softly. Instead of looking at you he chose to look at his kingdom from up high.

"My lord?"

He smiled, watching as three doves flew out of a tree top. They were free like the wind and nature itself. It didn't bend to anyone's will.

The only thing living creatures could do was try and contain it. Pushing back meant a harder push from nature in turn. When would the other races start to understand that?

It was only a few years ago that wolves started to disappear from the lands close to Rivendell. Humans decided that they were too big a danger to their sheep. And they needed the meat from the animals to survive.

What they didn't know was that other animal species were able to grow because their natural enemy wasn't there anymore.

Beavers built dams to their hearts' content. Enough to stop the river from flowing to the river.

And the moose families were now able to graze wherever they wanted. For example; on the lands where the sheep of man were supposed to graze.

Unfortunately it took some years for man to understand that they were wrong for chasing the wolves away. Now, they just wanted them back.

Elrond sighed deeply. He turned to you to show you a small smile. "There are many different species living on this planet. We live side by side though some would like to see that change. Only together can we decide whether we take a step forwards or backwards. Or simply stand still."

You blinked a few times. "Excuse me but... are we still talking about the same subject? I mean... I thought you wanted to give me some advice on how I have to deal with headstrong dwarves?"

Lord Elrond walked down the steps slowly as you said this. "If my ears were not misleading me when I heard you talk just now, I could swear you disagreed with your companions on what an adult is?"

Looking at the gracious elf, you nodded.

"And may I ask, what did you think I was talking about?"

You didn't respond immediately. Somehow you felt like this was a trick question. "Well... To be honest, I thought you were thinking of another topic and now you are trying to make it sound like you answered my question."

Elrond chuckled softly. "What I meant was this; to the dwarves you are still nothing more than a young child. But to your people you are a grown-up. It will take them some time before they start seeing you that way.

Their race has another view on how grown-ups should behave."

It took you a lot of effort not to roll your eyes. "I am an adult. They just don't want to see it" you whined.

"And that is why you should show them that you can behave like an adult. Stand your ground, try not to look for trouble and don't let yourself get send off to think about what you did" he added with a gentle smile.

"That sounds like a good idea" you agreed with a smile of your own. "But how does 'taking a step backward or standing still' fit into this picture?" you asked amused.

Lord Elrond looked at the treeline that grew close to the river. "Let me ask you this instead of explaining my words; what does being an adult mean to you?"

That was easy. "It means that you are old. Really old. You have seen a lot of the world, have had many experiences and that you can teach the youngsters what they should be doing." You walked to stand next to Elrond.

"And then what is the reason for you helping the young dwarves to keep hitting a beehive until it fell off?" He raised an eyebrow as he looked at you from the side.

Your cheeks flushed a bright shade of red. "W-well, I-I, there was a p-perfect good -"

Elrond laughed heartily. "I am sure there was. Going by your own words, what should you have done?"

This time you gave it some thought. What could you have done differently?

The last few hours you had spend feeling angry at the dwarves because they were unfair. Instead of asking you what you should have done differently they told you what they saw as right. They hadn't treated you like an adult.

And you hadn't act like one.

"I should have stopped Fili and Kili as soon as that sparkle appeared in their eyes. Or at least made sure that Ori and I were not going with them" you spoke softly. "Maybe I should have stayed calm when I questioned instead of yelling instantly."

Lord Elrond nodded. "That is what a grown-up would do." He paused for a second as a bee flew from a sunflower to a white rose. "Since you know what you should have done, you can consider yourself an adult. Show them" he said, nodding towards where he thought the company was.

"Thank you, lord Elrond" you said, bowing deeply. You ran off as soon as he gave you an approving smile. You would show them what you were made of.

Elrond was left behind. He raised his left hand, allowing a butterfly to sit and rest for a while. "Growing old has nothing to do with knowledge or years. You grow old when you stop laughing, stop loving and stop enjoying life."
