Imagine the Company trying to talk to you - Part 3

This third part was requested by Daloola4 .

The Company had offered you their apologies rather quickly. No one wanted to be on your bad side. And maybe even more so, no one wanted to be on Thorin's bad side. Everyone had noticed it. Their leader had showed you many of his rare smiles. His nephews had only received them every so often. Yet he was throwing them at you almost every single day.

Dwalin was the first one to notice. He tried not to mention it to Thorin. It proved to be rather hard.

'Where do you think we should be going?' Thorin asked one day. Together they were walking at the front of the company. It was the day after they had played their jokes on you. Dwalin raised an eyebrow. 'Are you lost?' he asked. There was a hint of amusement hidden in his voice.

Thorin ignored him. 'I think we should go right here' he murmured to himself. If his friend wasn't going to answer him, then he would have to answer himself. Dwalin looked from left to right. On his right hand there was a dark forest. You could hear some wolves crying in the distance. And on his left, there was a field filled with flowers and butterflies. Bunnies were hopping around... pure bliss.

'Right? You meant left, right?' Dwalin asked. Even the strong warrior didn't seem too keen on following the right path. Not even when it was a shortcut. He might be stronger then most orc's but he also had his boundaries. Then, he saw his friend turning he map around in his hands. A confused look tried to make it's way on his face but the dwarf prince was too stubborn to let it.

'Thorin?' Dwalin tried. Thorin growled, putting the map away in his bag. 'This is useless. I know which way to go. We go-' You quickly placed your hand on his shoulder to calm him down. The softness of your hand send lightning bolts through his body. Without them knowing you had fastened your walk to walk directly behind them.

That way you could also see the map that Thorin was holding. Even though he was constantly turning the thing around, you still managed to figure out which way to go. Granted. Everyone could have figured it out by just looking at the two different paths ahead. Except for the dwarf king who always got lost.

Dwalin used this time to quickly say: 'We need to go left. Right would be the wrong way.' He said it calmly in a low voice so that the others wouldn't hear it. He would follow his king everywhere but that path just wasn't right.

'If I say that we need to go right then we probably have to go right.' The 'probably' didn't really help his statement. Dwalin looked at you, his eyes pleading for you to interfere. You didn't understand what you could change about the situation, though. On the other hand, he had still not said or done anything about your hand on his shoulder. And why was Dwalin looking that way?

'Both roads will take equally long to cross. It would make me feel much safer if we went left' you said. Thorin narrowed his eyes for a moment. He stared straight ahead. Behind his back, Dwalin winked at you. What was that for?

'Follow me' Thorin suddenly ordered without warning. The Company, who had been taking a small break, rushed to their feet to follow their leader. The sun shone on the road as you followed Thorin to the left, walking through fields of flowers and little bunnies.
