Imagine Bilbo teaching you how to cook - Part 2

Together you ate in silence. This funny thing called 'cauliflower' was delicious. Especially the sausages were so good! 'This is great mister Bilbo! You are an amazing cook!' you said through mouthsful. Bilbo smiled at you. He knew he needed to tell you that you couldn't speak while eating but he didn't have the heart. This probably was your first meal in weeks. From now on you would be safe. He wouldn't let you go home. 'I am happy that it was to your liking' he said instead.

Bilbo got up to clean the table and was surprised to see you did the same. With your little hands you grabbed your plate and walked after the older hobbit. Your tongue stuck out of your mouth, you placed your plate on the counter. You had to stand on your toes but you managed. Bilbo ruffled his hand through your wild hair. Before you could glare at him, a yawn stopped you. Bilbo watched in amusement. 'I think the desert will have to wait until tomorrow' he said, picking you up. He carried you towards his spare bedroom. 'I don't have to go to bed master Bilbo' you said, sleep evident in your voice.

'I know, but there is a place and time for sleep and one for desert. Now, it is sleepy time' he said. Bilbo carried you through his house. You became more heavy as sleep fully wrapped itself around you. Your little hand went up to your eye and rubbed it. Bilbo gently laid you down beneath the covers of the bed. 'Why is it so quiet in your house mister Bilbo?' you asked drowsily. The older hobbit smiled. 'Because the one person in this house who is likely to run around screaming is falling asleep' he spoke quietly. You yawned. 'I would like to meet that person. Can I, master Bilbo?'

Bilbo softly stroked your hair. 'Aye, you can meet her tomorrow. For now you have to close your eyes so that the Hobbity Sand doesn't have to throw Sleepy Sand in your eyes'. You frowned as you tried to open your eyes to look at your neighbour. Bilbo chuckled. 'Haven't you heard about him? Well, if you close your eyes I will tell you all I know.' Before Bilbo had finished his sentence, you had wrapped yourself tighter in your blanket and was now patiently waiting for your story. Bilbo made himself comfortable on the side of your bed. And he began to tell.

'The Hobbity Sand visits little hobbits who are not yet asleep. He visits all of them every single night. First, he comes to check if you are asleep or not. When he finds you asleep he will go on to see if you have a nice dream or a bad dream. He does this because he can change your dream if he has to. The Hobbity Sand can let you dream about wonderful things. Castles, adventures, kings on a pony and beautiful princesses. That's why little hobbits will never experience a bad dream.

If you are not yet asleep, then the Hobbity Sand will throw some of his Sleepy Sand into your eyes. It doesn't hurt. On the contrary. You won't feel a thing. You won't even see him because he is that quick and silent. But when the Sleepy Sand lands in your eyes, you will begin to feel drowsy. Soon, your eyes will close and beautiful dreams will surround you. Know that everything is possible in your dreams.'

You had fallen asleep somewhere in the middle of his small story. Bilbo bent over to place a soft kiss on your forehead. His heart ached when he thought about all the horrors you had seen. Yet, here you lay so peaceful. Without a care in the world. He could only hope you wouldn't remember a lot from this small part of your life. Gently, he got up and tip-toed his way out of the spare bedroom. He closed the door behind him and simply stood there for a while. Before... *Knock, knock, knock*

Bilbo turned around, his eyes fixed on the green door. Who could that be at this hour? 'Master Bilbo? Who's that at the door?' came a sleep filled voice from the bedroom. Bilbo stomped towards the door. Who did they think they were? First, whoever it was, came at his door at this hour. It was 8 at night for radish sake! And second of all, he had just managed to get you in bed and he thought you were sleeping. He would tell them exactly how he felt about this behaviour! With an unexpected roughness, he opened the door and was about to yell at whoever stood there, when he saw the mayor standing in front of him.

Bilbo's mouth dropped. 'I-I... Mayor. To what do I owe this late night visit?' Bilbo asked politely. Maybe he was supposed to invite him in to give him a cup of tea. He would have done that if this unexpected visit wouldn't have surprised him so. The mayor smiled at him, but there was something in his eyes that told the other hobbit that something had happened. 'Master Baggins, I am sorry to disturb you at this late hour. But something urgent has happened that couldn't wait until te morning. No, you don't have to invite me inside. There's still a lot I need to do right now.' The mayor took a deep breath.

'I am sorry to inform you that one of your neighbours has passed. The young hobbit woman who...' Bilbo's mouth dropped open. Oh no, what would he have to tell you in the morning? '...and we all know that the young hobbit was quite fond of you. So, would you mind being the legal guardian of (y/n)?' There was no doubt what his answer should be. 'Of course, without doubt' he answered, his back straight. The mayor nodded. 'That's good to know, the only problem is... We don't know where (y/n) is.' Bilbo raised his hand before the mayor could continue. '(Y/N) is here already. She came to my house this afternoon. (Y/N) has been here from then on.'

The mayor seemed to be a bit surprised by this but shrugged it off. 'Very well then, that's taken care of. I am, once again, sorry that I had to disturb you at this late hour. I trust you will take good care of (y/n).' And with that he nodded and turned around to do whatever he was supposed to do right now. 'I will' Bilbo said, more to himself then to anyone else. At least he could fall asleep without a worry in the world tonight. He didn't have to put up a fight to get you, nothing could hurt you now. He would make sure of that.
