'How did your lessons go today?' your father asks as he eats his soup. Legolas, your brother, sits on the other side of the table. He shows you a sympathetic smile. He knows exactly what happened at your lessons today. You lowered your spoon into your bowl and tried to think of a way to explain it without making your father angry. 'Well... It's so interesting that you ask that' you begin, faking a smile. Thranduil just looks at you with a stern expression on his face. He knows his daughter, avoiding the question can only mean one thing. 'And why is that so interesting, lellig.' You avoided his eyes and instead looked at your brother for help. 'Well, ada, my teacher and I had a bit of a... a misunderstanding one would call it.' Thranduil raised an eyebrow and folded his hands. 'A misunderstanding?'

You didn't miss the hint of anger in his voice and it send shivers down your spine. No one else knew as well as you that the elven King had a bad temper, as you were often the one who set it off. 'Now, ada, don't be mad at me. She said that dwarves are incapable of any emotion besides greed and being disgusting. I then pointed out to her that 'greed' and 'being disgusting' are not actual emotions and she freaked out' you said, looking down at your hands. Of course that was not all of it but surely your father wouldn't... 'And?' You looked up and met your father's eyes. 'And what, ada?' Thranduil narrowed his eyes. 'We both know that that's not all of the story.' You coughed. How did he know that? Your teacher must have spoken with him earlier.

What was the point of asking you what happened if he already knew the whole story? 'Well... It kind of ended with me saying that dwarves are actual able to feel emotions like love and happiness, if only we took the time to get to know them.' Thranduil drank a sip of his red wine. His eyes were glued on you. There were no sounds in the dinner hall, no one dared to make a noise. You could almost feel the anger radiating from your father's body. 'I'm sure (y/n) didn't mean to...' Legolas started but was stopped when Thranduil raised his hand. 'Have you ever met a dwarf before?' Thranduil asks you. Your cheeks heat up. 'N-no, but...' 'Exactly' Thranduil said in a harsh tone and stood up from his chair. 'You know nothing about that race.

And you will never know something about them because they are dangers beings who don't care about anything but their precious gems. You don't know much about this world. Don't defend things that are not worthy of our time' he said and turned around to leave the hall. 'They are not things.' Thranduil stopped dead in his tracks. 'Excuse me?' he almost hissed at you. You stood up from your chair, tears evident in your eyes. 'Dwarves are a noble race who have done nothing wrong to us. They are not things but living creatures' you shouted. Thranduil didn't look at you but spoke to a guard. 'Bring her to her room. Let her think about what she said. My daughter can't come back until she sees that she was wrong.' And with that he leaves the hall. The guard approaches you just when you feel a warm hand on your back.

'Don't bother, I will take her to her room' Legolas says and guides you away from the dinner hall. You try not to cry but it hurts you that your father doesn't see the dwarves as you see them. 'You don't have to walk with me all the way to my room, I can find it myself' you say and try to escape his hold. But Legolas is too strong. He pulls you down to the stables. You look back at the hallway and say: 'This is not the way towards my room.' 'No, it is not' he simply states. You frown. 'Father told me to go to my room.' Legolas nodded. 'Yes, he did.' When you reached the stables you were finally able to shake his hand off. He didn't do anything against it and just got your horse from it's stable. 'Then what are we doing here?' Legolas turned around and handed you the reigns of your horse.

'Because father was right. You know nothing about this world. He keeps you hidden in this castle' he sighed. 'Go. I will keep everyone in here so you can escape this forest.' 'But...' 'Don't hesitate now. You want to know how the world is out there? Then go now. This may be your only chance to see the world.' For a moment you stare at your brother. He was the only one who understood your desire to see the other races, your desire to explore Middle-Earth. You throw your arms around his neck and close your eyes. 'Thank you for giving me this chance.' He pats your back. 'Novaer.' You pull back and nod at him. 'Novaer.' You pull yourself up on your horse and ride away.

Thranduil was pacing around in front of his throne. It had been two days since his argument with you. He knew you could be stubborn but mostly you would come back to him within a few hours to apologize. He didn't understand your first to know the unknown. To know what laid behind this forest. Wasn't Mirkwood enough for you? Didn't he give his all to make you happy here? To make up for the fact you hadn't known your mother for more then four years. He closed his eyes. His wife... 'Ada?' Thranduil spun around, disappointed to see it was his son. 'Have you talked to your sister?' he asked, surprisingly cold. Legolas shook his head. 'No, I have not seen her for the last two days.' Thranduil started pacing around again. 'Was I wrong for sending her to her room?' he asked, more to himself then to anyone else.

Legolas knew his father didn't wait for his answer, he tried to come up with it himself. Your father was kind and loving towards you, but he thought your thoughts and feelings were going to be your downfall. No elf should want to interact with dwarves. He simply didn't understand it. From afar he could hear one of his guards running towards the throne room. He sighed deeply. Great, now something was wrong. Maybe he could let Legolas deal with it, he was too busy with dealing with you. 'What?' he hissed as the guard stood before him and bowed. 'Hîr vuin. It's about your daughter. She is not in her room nor anywhere else in the castle.' Thranduil's eyes widened before he stormed off. 'Look in every nook! Look in every room! Find her!' he yelled.

You couldn't remember how you ended up in the Company of Thorin Oakenshield but here you were, resting at Beorn's house, close to your old home. You had run off with your horse a few months ago and had explored parts of Middle-Earth. It was nothing like you thought it would be. It wasn't the magical place with bright colors of which you had always dreamed off. There was a lot of death and disease in this world. At least you now knew that. At some point you had arrived at Hobbiton. The hobbits in your books had always amazed you and you wanted to know if they were anything like the descriptions said. That's how you had ran into Gandalf. He believed it was his duty to bring you back home safely. Thorin hadn't objected to let you come with them because Gandalf had advised you to hide your face.

That way the dwarves wouldn't know you were an elf. It went well, some dwarves suspected something but didn't act on it, and it wasn't until you ran into the trolls that you accidentally revealed your true identity. The dwarves and Bilbo had been captured by the trolls. You were away with Gandalf at the time so you hadn't been caught. When the hobbit distracted the trolls you saw your chance and attacked them with your arrows. They couldn't determine from where the arrows were coming, so they stood no chance of defending themselves. Shortly after you began your attack, Gandalf split a rock in two and the trolls turned to stone. You didn't wait a moment longer and began untying the rope which held the dwarves above the fire.

'Lass, it would be better to first...' Thorin started before his mouth dropped. You turned around and saw the other dwarves staring at you as well. Your hand immediately shot up to your hood and you found out that you weren't wearing it. They could now see your pointy ears and knew you were an elf. A short elf, but still an elf. Thorin's look turned sour and it was nothing compared to the looks your father send you when he was angry. And that said something. 'You brought an elf on this journey?!' Thorin yelled. Kili stepped up and stood beside me. '(Y/N) saved us from the trolls uncle. She has been a valuable member of this Company since day one. She may be an elf but she has done nothing to deserve this.'

Kili was lucky to have Thorin as an uncle or the glare he received would have killed him on spot. 'She is right Thorin. I know you're angry with the elves but (y/n) had nothing to do with what her kin decided that day' Bilbo said. 'Don't speak halfling. I will deal with you later' Thorin hissed back. 'If you want (y/n) to leave this Company, then I will leave with her' Kili declared. Thorin looked ready to explode. His nephew dared to side with an elf against his own uncle. 'Can you discuss this later? We are still above this fire!' Dwalin yelled before the argument could continue. Kili died the fire out and together you helped the dwarves down on their feet. Then the orc's happened and Thorin didn't have the chance to send you away.

Gandalf lured the dwarves to Rivendell and Thorin wasn't happy to say the least. But you were glad to be among your own kind again. After Lord Elrond invited you to stay as his guests, the dwarves decided they could use one of the fountain as a bath. But instead of joining them, Kili decided to stay with you and enjoy the sunlight. 'Is that why you always wore the hood?' he asks, looking at the clouds as they past by. 'Yes. Gandalf said it would be better to hide my race from you as long as I could.' 'I think that was the right decision' he responds. He pushed himself up on one arm. 'Do you come from here? From Rivendell I mean?' he asked curiously. 'No, I'm from Mirkwood. I'm the daughter of King Thranduil.' Kili smirked. 'We have got ourselves an elf princess then?

If you would have told my uncle that I'm sure he wouldn't have been mad with you.' You both laugh. 'No, seriously, I wouldn't have minded if you had told me before.' You put a hand before your eyes, trying to shield them against the sun. You turned your head and looked at Kili. 'Are you sure?' He nodded. 'You are a wise, brave and beautiful young woman.' 'Young? Do you know how old I am?' you ask jokingly. He shrugged. 'Does it matter?' You shake your head. 'You are absolutely hopeless.' 'Aye, hopeless in love with you.' Kili got closer to you and leaned his forehead against yours. 'What would you do if I would kiss you now?' You stare into his sincere, brown eyes. 'I think I would let you. But our father's would kill you.' He chuckled.

'Then there is nothing to stop me.' His eyes stayed locked with yours as he closed the space between your lips and gave you your first and sensational kiss. His lips tasted sweet and soft against your own. Legolas had tried to describe to you how it felt to kiss someone but this was much better. Kili was careful and caring, his kiss was light but still so demanding. He pulled back only a little to say: 'Will you stay with me until my last breath escapes me?' he asked. 'Aye.'
