Thranduil had decided to stay and fight the battle side by side with the dwarves and men. Things hadn't turned out the way he wanted to. If only the wizard had told him everything he suspected in advance, he possibly could have changed the future. He wouldn't have let Tauriel escape to follow the dwarf she thought she was in love with. He would have stopped his own son from going after her and he would have left Vanadessë in the Woodland Realm. She was only a few decades younger then Legolas but Thranduil knew how much his son cared about her. He should have left her at home to make sure she would stay safe and sound. But he didn't. Now she was here in the ruïns of Esgaroth to protect the humans. And she was doing a great job.
Legolas was fighting by her side, slaying orc's in the blink of an eye. Thranduil tried to keep an eye on them before more and more orc's came in and made it impossible for him to focus on anything else but his enemies. Vanadessë tried to stay close to Legolas. She was a skilled fighter and had seen battle before, but something about this one didn't feel right with her. It felt like this was planned, like some greater power then the orc's wanted the mountain for themselves. There were so many orc's that she lost Legolas in the heat of the fight. She could still hear him in the distance. The space between them was growing rapidly. Vanadessë tried to fight her way through to Legolas but she wasn't sure where he was. The orc's kept coming and didn't give her the time to breathe.
Her long, brown hair was pulled back in several braids, keeping her hair out of her face. Many orc's and some man lay on the ground. Their bodies made it hard to find steady ground. She fought hard and good. Soon there were only three orc's left around her. They grinned at her, she was nothing more then a she-elf to them. A mere tree-shagger, as they would say. Vanadessë put her sword away and pulled out her two, long knives. The orc's didn't wait for her to attack and ran forward, their swords pointed at her chest. She jumped on top one of their swords, using it as a way to get higher. The two other orc's tried to hit her but she already jumped up, avoiding their attack. As she moved down Vanadessë hold her knives tight in her hands. She landed behind the same orc and slit his throat from behind.
The orc made a suffocating noise and dropped down on the ground. She ducked and quickly jumped afterwards to avoid the axe's from hitting her. But she didn't pay attention to her surroundings anymore. Behind her, on the wall, stood an orc with his arrow aimed at her. As he let go of it, Legolas stabbed him in his arm and the arrow didn't found the mark the orc had been aiming at. Instead it pierced itself through Vanadessë's shoulder. She gasped for air as she moved her hand to the new wound. Her eyes widened as she saw what had hurt her. Blood was flowing from her wound and she watched it drip down onto the ground. The orc's saw their chance and raised their axes to finish the job but they forgot Legolas was still there.
He jumped down the wall with his sword pointing downwards. He landed on the shoulders of one orc and pushed his sword through his head. Legolas didn't wait for him to fall down but jumped of and quickly got his bow and arrow. The other orc had turned around and was prepared to stab Legolas, but he wasn't prepared for the arrow piercing itself through his head. His eyes crossed and he felt down to the ground. Vanadessë had fallen down on her knees, looking at her bloody hands. 'Vanadessë! Look at me' Legolas sat as he sat down in front of her. He put his finger beneath her chin to lift it up. 'I have to pull it out' he said. Her face was awfully pale, he could see her life draining from her body. He hold the arrow tightly and got ready to pull it out. Legolas placed one hand on her shoulder. 'I'm sorry' he said before he pulled as hard as he could.
Vanadessë gasped for air. She had never imagined an arrow would hurt that much. Legolas caught her in his arms and gently lowered her to the ground. 'It was a Morgul arrow' he says more to himself then to her. He reaches into his pocket to get the Kingsfoil and puts it on her wound. He mutters the right words and Vanadessë is overwhelmed by the calmness and serenity that takes over her body. The pain slowly fades away and she can only hear his voice. Her brown eyes search for his but he is too focuses on healing her body. She had only heard about this but never seen it with her own eyes. She would have preferred to just watch it instead of being the subject who needed healing, but at least she had now seen it. Legolas lifted his hands from the wound and bound it with a piece of his clothing.
'You will make it but you need rest' he told her. She just smiled at him. 'I never realized how beautiful you are in the sunlight' she said, looking at Legolas with different eyes. He stopped and looked down at her, raising an eyebrow. 'I didn't know the poison worked that quickly' he chuckled. 'It's not the poison, it's the feeling that I kept locked in my heart for so long' she said. He cupped her cheek but looked down at the ground. 'My father won't allow it...' he starts but you shush him. 'Don't worry about that my love, together we will run away and find ourselves a magic tree which grows purple beans.' It all made sense in her head but Legolas was sure the poison had already affected her body. 'I will bring you to safety, promise me you won't leave when I leave you there.' She hummed happily and fell asleep against his chest as he carried her.
