Imagine being an elf and joining the Company

~ This one was requested by @SociopaticSoldier ; Imagine being an elf and joining Thorin's Company and even though he's reluctant at first, he grows to see you as a friend and maybe even more. ~

Three months ago you had left Rivendell to find your own path in life. Elrond had decided against it, so the next morning you had left on your horse to visit the Shire. You had read many stories about hobbits and their care free lifestyle and you wanted to see it with your own eyes. Surely no creature could live in peace and without war? But when you came in Hobbiton you realized the books had been right. None of the hobbits you spoke to had ever gone on an adventure or had seen other creatures. Some of them even thought elves were mythical creatures, nothing more and nothing less. So when you turned up you rocked their whole little town. Bilbo had come to your rescue and hid you in his house until things had gone quiet in the Shire. By now everyone would believe you had already left.

It was only one week after you had come to the Shire when Gandalf arrived at Bag End and everything went down hill from there. The dwarves had come and when Thorin saw you he was ready to march right back to where he had come from, so it seemed. His mouth had dropped and his eyes had widened. He looked at Gandalf with a stunned look, not sure if the wizard was sane or not. Because; 'what fool brings an elf on a dwarven quest?' And many had agreed with him. As Gandalf pointed out he didn't even know you would be there but you wouldn't let the Dwarf King get away with it that easily. 'I will be joining you for the first half of your journey, until we've reached Rivendell' you declared. Without waiting for an answer you turned around and packed your belongings.

'I didn't say you could come with us' Thorin growled as he followed you to the guest room. You shrugged. 'Apparently it's not your decision to make' you said. Thorin stopped and the same confused expression returned to his face. It was, however, quickly swapped with his normal, scowling look. 'I'm the leader of this Company and I say no elf will come with us!' he yelled. 'What have I ever done to you?' you asked. 'You know that. Your people refuged to help my people when we needed shelter.' He turned around from you, grabbing the door knob. 'No help came from your people that day, and now, I don't need it' he said and left. You stayed in the room with determination written all over your face. You would show him that he could trust an elf. Not all of them were bad.

'Uncle! Bilbo drank too much and now he's swimming!' Kili yells as he runs into the camp. Everybody jumps up and follows the young prince as he leads them to the lake. Thorin rolls his eyes and follows his Company. How did they get themselves into so much trouble this time. Hadn't they been out of ale for a few weeks now? Thorin kept a close eye on you from the corner of his eyes as he saw you running along with the Company. The tree-shagger probably wanted to see the poor hobbit drown. That was the only answer he could come up with. Some of the dwarves had already gathered around the lake to take their heavy armor off. Thorin ran forward and tried to spot the hobbit. There was only dark water, no bit of fluffy hair sticking out anywhere. 'THERE!' he could hear your yell. He followed the direction your finger pointed at and finally saw the hobbit.

You jumped in immediately, realizing the hobbit would drown before any of the dwarves could reach him, and made your way towards him as quickly as you could. The dwarves stayed behind on the shore and held their breath as they saw the hobbit disappearing beneath the dark surface of the lake. Thorin could feel his heart beating rapidly. Bubbles drifted up to the surface. 'Where are they?' Thorin asks at no one in particular. There come more bubbles and Thorin grows scared. He can't loose two of his Company members. You take a deep breath of air as you come back to the surface. You try to get Bilbo back to the shore, but he's just too heavy for you. Fili and Kili make their way in to the water, not caring about their armor. Fili throws an arm around you as Kili drags the hobbit up to the shore. Dwalin and Bofur help to revive the hobbit and Fili helps you to sit down.

'Take this' Thorin says in his usual tone and hands you his fur coat. You are not sure why he would give you his coat, but it does come in handy right now. From that day on he offers you his fur coat every night. He does stay close to you to see you don't do anything funny with it. But Fili and Kili would tell you he sat next to you because he started to like you.

'I would never think you would let an elf travel with you in your Company' Elrond says, looking at the trees in front of him. Thorin stands next to him, his arms crossed and an unreadable look on his face. He is only hear because the wizard tricked him. If he could have it his way he would be far away from this place by now. 'It wasn't exactly my decision' he says carefully. Because a few months ago I would have never let a tree-shagger come close to me, he thinks. Elrond smiles lightly. He moves so he is now face to face with the dwarf. 'I'm happy to see you are taking good care of her.' Thorin nods. 'Naturally.' The two men stand in silence for a while. Thorin is not paying attention to anything Elrond says, he is focused on you. You're sitting far away from him with a bunny on your lap.

Elrond follows his gaze. 'You've grown quite fond of her, have you not?' he asks. Thorin looks up at him with a dark shade of red on his cheeks. 'I don't know what you mean.' Elrond chuckles. 'Of course you don't. It's a shame for her then' he says and attempts to walk away. Thorin loosens his arms and let them fall to his sides. 'What is a shame for her?' Elrond stops. 'I think she would have returned your feelings, if you only had them' he says and walks away. Thorin stares after him. He can hear your laugh from across the field. It's a melodic sound to his ears. He wasn't sure himself how he truly felt about you, but Elrond was wrong.

How could you ever think of him in that way? Had he not treat you porely ever since he had met you? Thorin sighed. he had ruïned it for himself in the beginning and now there was no way you would have him. But he could still try. He watched as a male elf sat down next to you. Now, that couldn't happen. '(Y/N)!' he ordered. You looked up at him and a small smile danced over your mouth. How he loved that smile. 'Come hear, please!' he shouted. You came to him immediately, leaving the male elf by himself. A smug smile played on Thorin's lips. That was the way he liked it.
