Warden (Haldir)
July 10, 2016: Which two characters should I make an "Choose Your Own Adventure" imagine for? I'm thinking that your decisions will affect who you end up with, if you guys want to read something like that.
Thanks for reading!
P.S. A Thorin imagine is up next...
You're visiting your grandmother, Galadriel, and you become fascinated by one of the wardens.
You unmounted your horse and looked up at the tall trees of Lothlórien. You felt welcomed by the slight breeze, tingling your senses and moving the limbs of trees.
The cool atmosphere of Lothlórien rejuvenated you, unlike the atmosphere of Rivendell. Since your father wanted you and your sister to leave for the Grey Havens, he constantly tried to convince you to leave. Your sister, however, had a different opinion. Refusing to leave, she would argue with your father seemingly nonstop. Thus, your house in Rivendell seemed stuffy and tense.
You were torn between the two sides of your family; leaving Middle Earth meant leaving all of the mortal friends you had acquired over the years, but you would be safe and joyous in the Grey Havens. It was a life changing decision, and you needed some time to think about it without your father and sister trying to persuade you.
Rather suddenly, you decided to visit your beloved grandmother, Galadriel for a break. Her company and wise words always put your mind and heart at ease.
You nodded your head at the guards as they allowed you to ascend up the stairs, to your grandmother's dwelling.
The stairs ran along the side of the massive tree and spiraled upward until you reached a system of bridges that connected all of the buildings of Lothlórien together.
But these stairs wrapped around the tree so many times that it became slightly monotonous trying to reach your destination.
You were focused on where you were stepping until you collided into someone going to opposite direction as you.
"My apologies, I didn't-" you started and looked up to meet the elf in the eyes.
You didn't recognize him from all of your trips to Lothlórien. By now, you were fairly acquainted with everyone that dwelled within Lothlórien. In addition to that, you believed you would be able to remember an attractive, young male.
He bowed, "My apologies as well, my lady."
He briskly walked passed you and continued descending down the stairs.
You stood there for a minute, thinking about the odd occurrence, before you continued to go up the stairs.
When you reached the top, you saw Galadriel smiling at you in the distance. You smiled back and crossed the bridge to reach her.
As you met her, she greeted you, "Welcome back to Lothlórien," Galadriel spoke in the calm, wise tone she always used.
Instead of responding, you quickly embraced her in a hug. She chuckled at the unexpected gesture and hugged you back.
You released her from your grip. "Ah, I've missed this place," you said.
Both of you started to head to Galadriel's house for some tea.
Pouring the tea, Galadriel watched the liquid fill the cup until it was full. She then passed you the cup.
"Le fael (Thank you), Grandmother," you spoke while brining the warm drink to your lips.
After you took a sip, Galadriel asked, "How is your family?"
You shrugged. "All is well, but they seem to only want to argue." Fiddling with your fingers, you continued, "It's very tiring, so I decided to visit you for a short while."
"I assumed that is why you visited on such a short notice," she poured herself some tea. "Yes, your family is rather prone to arguments, but that is because they all worry about each other."
Sighing, you agreed. Your family may argue, but there was never a time where you doubted their love and support. "I suppose that's true, but-" you turned to look out the window to see the elf you had run into earlier within your view.
Galadriel continued talking, however, thinking that you stopped speaking because it was a difficult subject.
But that wasn't the case. You had stopped talking because you were observing the elf train younger elves in what appeared to be the art of sword craft.
The elf from before definitely was a captivating person. It seemed folly to be entranced with a stranger, but you couldn't help it. His graceful movements with a sword only made you stare even longer.
Your thoughts were interrupted by Galadriel's voice. "Y/N, were you listening?" she asked, more amused than irritated.
You turn to face her. "I, uh," you stammered, not wanting to admit that you practically ignored your grandmother to creepily stare at someone.
"It was quiet amusing watching you stare at Haldir," Galadriel stated nonchalantly.
You nervously chuckled. "I guess I was being pretty creepy."
She waved her hands in dismissal. "Nonsense. You're just curious." Galadriel paused for a moment. "Well, he is our new warden, so I trust you will go greet him with me, as you are my granddaughter, and I could use your companionship."
"I think I'll stay here. I don't want to intrude on any security matters of Lothlórien," you said, politely smiling.
You didn't exactly want to meet the warden, Haldir. After all, you were content with keeping your relationship professional; usually, if you kept your distance, you wouldn't get overly attached or embarrass yourself.
"Please, Y/N. Your grandmother is getting really old and could use some assistance," Galadriel feigned helplessness.
You considered her offer again. You were here to visit your grandmother, and it would be pointless to stay alone in her house.
"Fine. I'll go," you finally declared after thinking it over.
Galadriel smirked, "Excellent."
***
"My lady," Haldir bowed as Galadriel approached him.
You hung back a little ways, so you wouldn't be very noticeable. Galadriel knew this and moved to place her hands on her shoulders to force you in front of her.
"Haldir, this is my granddaughter, Y/N."
You silently cursed your grandmother.
Haldir smiled, and it was definitely beautiful. "Nice to meet you, Y/N."
"Nice to meet you too," you managed to say.
You stood awkwardly to the side as Galadriel and Haldir discussed the security of Lothlórien as you remained quiet.
"The night shift may have to be rearranged, due to Orophin traveling to-"
Haldir was cut off as another warden sprinted towards us.
The other warden, known as Raenor, approached Galadriel. "We need your immediate assistance, my lady."
Concerned, you spoke up. "What happened?"
Raenor seemed to search for an answer as a perplexed look crossed his face before regaining composure. "Uh, something, us important. Yes! Something important that needs to be kept a secret. Lady Galadriel, it is urgent!"
Before she went to leave with Raenor, she turned to Haldir, "Please escort my granddaughter back to my house."
"Oh, I'm fine. I can-" you started to protest.
"I don't know if there's a security breech yet." Galadriel placed a hand on your shoulder. "It would make me feel better if you had Haldir with you."
You pursed your lips, holding back some thoughts. "Alright, but be careful, Grandmother."
She smiled. "I will."
With that, Galadriel hurried off with Raenor.
Haldir rubbed the back of his neck with his hand. "I guess we'll start going back up," he said.
You nodded, looking at the numerous flights of stairs you were going to have to walk up.
***
But little did you know that Galadriel and Raenor were hiding in a nearby bush.
"My lady, I'm slightly confused as to why you would have me fake an emergency," Raenor whispered.
Galadriel flicked his forehead.
"Isn't it obvious? I want Y/N and Haldir together."
Raenor nodded slowly, "But why all of the sudden?"
She flicked his forehead again.
"I want great-grandchildren. Now, be quiet."
Rubbing his forehead, Raenor mumbled a few incoherent words.
"What was that?" Galadriel asked.
"Nothing!"
***
As you and Haldir started the trek up the stairs, you started to grow weary of the silence between the two of you.
"So, uh, my grandmother told me that you are a new warden," you said.
"Yes, I started the job today."
"Today?" you asked, slightly surprised.
He softly chuckled. "But I haven't really done anything of utmost importance yet, but I hope I will."
"I have a feeling you'll be involved with an epic quest," you thought out loud.
"Really?"
"Yes, I do," you said, looking back at Haldir, who was a few steps behind you.
***
"What do your elf eyes see, Raenor?" Galadriel questioned.
"They seem to be making small talk and Y/N looked back at Haldir," he reported.
"She does a lot of staring, doesn't she?"
"I don't-"
"My great-grandchildren are at stake. SHUSH."
***
You laughed at Haldir's witty comment, finding yourself enjoying his company.
You were laughing so much so that you almost tripped on a stair step due to your inattention. Luckily, you were able to balance yourself before anything bad were to happen.
Someone below you, on the forest floor, didn't seem to know that you caught yourself and yelled out, "Be careful!"
You searched for the source of the voice, but you couldn't see the owner of it in plain sight.
Continuing up the stairs, you almost let the odd occurrence go, until you decided to yell back, "I'll be careful!"
You then saw some rustling in some bushes down below as they moved around to shout, "Thank you!"
***
Raenor leaned back, proud of himself for checking on Y/N's safety.
Galadriel, however, was appalled that he was so stupid as to give away their cover. "Fool, do you know what you just did?"
His smile disappeared from his face, "No. I was just-"
Galadriel cut him off by flicking his forehead.
***
"Haldir, did you see that bush move?" you asked.
"Yes, it appears that someone's hiding in it," he stated.
"Who do you think it could be?"
He thought about it for a moment. "Judging by the voice, it's Raenor, and it seemed like he and Galadriel were acting suspicious earlier today."
"I wouldn't put it past my grandmother," you muttered.
"Do you want to mess with them?" he smirked.
"Gladly, what do you have in mind?"
***
Galadriel and Raenor still hid in the bush, just in case you and Haldir were still wondering what happened.
"Well," Raenor began. "They're just talking and not looking in any direction near the bush, so we may yet be hidden."
Galadriel glared at Raenor.
***
"What Galadriel doesn't know won't hurt her," you said loudly, knowing that your nosy grandmother would be dying to know whatever "secret" you had.
"I agree," Haldir said loud enough for Raenor and Galadriel to hear.
"What else do you have in mind?" you whispered to Haldir. You noticed that you were nearing your grandmother's house.
"It'll have to be good one, since I have to leave soon," he thought.
You started thinking.
"Ah, I have an idea!" he proudly stated. "It will really mess with them."
You just finished crossing the bridge, and were approaching your grandmother's front door. "Just hurry!"
He leaned in, kissing your cheek briefly.
Your eyes were wide open.
He chuckled, "I'll see you later, Y/N."
"O-okay," you stammered.
You opened the door and made your way to the guest bedroom, collapsing on the bed.
You held the place where Haldir kissed with your hand. You may have only known him for a brief time, but one thing was certain.
You liked the warden.
