On the Road
I'm sorry it took me so long to update! I'm on a vacation so I totally forgot about my story ;) Here's a long chapter since I was lazy and didn't update.
Disclaimer: I don't own the Hobbit because I am not JRR Tolkien.
(Aian's pov)
I whistled for Talian since I let him roam in The Shire while we were at Bilbo's. I sighed. I'll miss the hobbit. He was nice, kind and I really thought he could make a difference on this quest. He is strong and could really be a first class burglar if he tried.
"Why ya' look so sad miss Aian?" Bofur asked me with a frown on his face.
"Are you scared?" Asked one of the two nephews of Thorin. I think it was Fili because he's the one with the blond mane.
I rounded on him with a scowl on my face.
"I'm not scared! I'm sad because Bilbo's not coming with us." I snapped. Scared! As if!
"Sorry! I was just joking." He said putting his hands up in surrender. The twinkle in his eyes made me mad. "Anyways, why are you so sure he won't come?"
"What do you mean?" I asked, my anger fading.
"He still might come!" Broke in his dark haired brother. Kili, I think. "Balin left the contract on the table. I bet you 50 gold coins he'll come."
"Woah, woah, woah! I think he's going to come then. He might change he's mind!" I was sure Bilbo would change his mind. I mean he's a Took also right? Tooks are adventurous hobbits. Hey I know a bit about hobbits! I'm not completely in the dark about their customs.
The others started taking sides. It was Gandalf, Kili, Fili, Bofur, Ori and me on the winning side. Hey I'm 100% sure that Bilbo will show up! In fact I don't doubt him for a second. Anyways it was Dwalin, Bifur, Bombur, Nori, and Dori on the losing side. The mighty Thorin Oakenshield and Balin were the only ones who didn't bet.
Anyways when we were finally ready and saddled up, we started our adventure! I kept looking back to see if Bilbo arrived yet. Every time I saw that he didn't. *Sigh*
"Looking for something miss?" Dwalin said smirking at me.
"Actually I am. You didn't happen to see a hobbit around here have you?"
"No miss, not here. But I saw plenty in Hobbiton. It's right down that way." He said pointing in the direction we came.
I smiled at him. "But this one is not like the others. He has curly brown hair and warm brown eyes. He hosted a little party of thirteen dwarves last night and I'm expecting that he will join them on this adventure."
"You are so sure of yourself, eh, miss Aian?" He said smirking. "You might as well just pay up now. Bilbo's not coming."
"First, it's just Aian; second, he will come. Just you wait mister Dwalin." I say with a big grin.
"Same here Aian. It's just Dwalin. And in case you didn't realize, Bilbo's-" He was cut off by a familiar voice.
"Wait! Wait for me!" It was Bilbo. He finally arrived.
"Pay up Dwalin." I said with a smirk as the company turned to wait for Bilbo.
(Time change)
When we finally stopped for the night I was exhausted! How other dwarves do this all the time with no breaks was a mystery to me!
Anyway I talked to Kili and Fili on the way. They are actually quite nice. Nothing like their uncle! We found out that we have a lot in common. For example they're about the same age as me. Fili is is a bit older and Kili a bit younger. This our first adventure and we are all adventurous and hyper. We were the youngest here so we have to do jobs like gathering the firewood, filling up the buckets with water, and taking care of the horses. *Sigh* But someone has to do it.
We (Kili, Fili, and I) divided up the tasks this way: I would gather the firewood, Kili would get the water, and Fili would take care of the horses. We would switch our jobs every night so that all three do every job and no one is stuck with the hardest and easiest job.
I trotted into the woods looking for firewood. A rabbit ran in front of me and thinking quickly I shot through the eye with a arrow. Looks like we're having cooked rabbit tonight. Yum!
I managed to shot two others and was about to go back to camp when I realized something. My job was gathering firewood! I only had three rabbits and no firewood. I burst into laughter and went back to the forest to get some firewood.
By the time I got back it was really dark and my burden was getting heavy.
"At last! I beginning to worry you got lost!" Gloin exclaimed.
"Hahahaha. Very funny. I got three rabbits also. "
Thorin glared at me. "Finally! You were supposed to get firewood! Is that so hard?"
I stepped back, feeling hurt. "But I caught two rabbits also. And I got the firewood."
"Not quick enough. It took you one hour! Next time be quicker."
I glared at the ground as Thorin passed. I walked over to Kili and Fili and forced myself to smile at them. "So what did I miss?"
"It's not your fault Thorin's mad. I made a joke about orcs to Bilbo and Thorin got mad." Kili said.
"Oh... So what did you say that was so bad?"
They proceeded to tell me the story about the Pale Orc and Thorin. I felt bad for Thorin but that was no excuse to yell at me.
After the story of what I missed came dinner. Bombur was an amazing cook and I told him so. He blushed and said he was happy I liked it.
"I *yawn* am going to sleep. Goodnight everyone! *yawn*" I said nearly asleep on my feet.
I barely heard the dwarves saying goodnight because, the second I crawled under my blanket I was asleep.
(Next morning)
I woke up to the bright sunlight. I yawned and stood up to stretch. That was part of my 'routine'. Wake up, stretch, eat, go on with the day. So since, from the position of the sun, it was seven in the morning, I woke up the others. Soon all fourteen were up and Bombur was cooking breakfast.
As soon as I finished breakfast I went over to the where the horses the were saddled. I walked over to Talian and pet his soft black mane.
"Good morning Talian. We have another busy day of riding ahead of us so we better get you saddled and ready."
He nickered softly in agreement and nudged me with his big head. His intelligent brown eyes locked with mine and I grinned at him. As soon as he was saddled I noticed that the others were getting ready as well. Bilbo looked like he was having trouble so I went to help him.
"Need some help Bilbo?" I asked him. He jumped six feet into the air out of shock! Alright, you caught me. Maybe not six feet but six inches yes. Anyways he put his hand over his heart.
"Aian you nearly gave me a heart attack!"
"Sorry." I said, "Do you need some help with your pony?"
"Yes, please! She's not listening to me!"
I laughed and helped him saddle up then boosted him up to sit on his saddle. I went over to Talian and saddled up.
"Let's go!" Thorin said. I scowled, we're coming, wait one second. Gosh he's annoying!
I hope you enjoyed this chapter! I just had to get it up for you guys :) Remember, read and review.
