Part 13 Vol. 2
As Loren finished her song Alister and his group arrived at the saloon. They took a table and called 3Gun over. The partnership had been signed and the new partner demanded the deed. 3Gun regarded the man called Stray Dog with reservations and mentioned that he had hoped to see the agreement before it was signed. Stray Dog became belligerent and told him to just give them the deed.
3Gun told him it was in the bank and he wanted to have a private chat with Alister and Raven. A small dog had accompanied the men and when Stray Dog started complaining the dog, Raven called him Tiger, began a threatening growl.
Crooked Smile took Stray Dog to the bar for a drink. 3Gun just wanted assurance that Alister believed he had done the right thing and that on a personal level, he and Raven were okay. Assurance was given so 3Gun said he would get the deed and hand it over the next day. The group left after Crooked Smile promised he would return to resume his bar duties.
As they were leaving Marshall Lorne came in looking for Loren. She had begun a reprise of her Brownie song after being coaxed by Lotta. Lorne looked like the devil. His eyes were black from the blow that broke his nose, which was covered in a piece of white tape. On his cheek was a red stain that 3Gun couldn't figure out and he got up and joined him at the bar.
Lorne told 3Gun he did not want any more advice about his sister, he was taking her home. 3Gun shook his head and shrugged. He asked about the box from the bakery and Lorne told him it was brownies for Loren from the Chinaman. 3Gun asked about the trip to Tent City and was annoyed to learn that he had not gone and Deputy Darkly went alone.
He left the saloon and went to the bakery to get a report from Darkly. He found her with AJ, drinking lemonade and learned about the new threat they faced. Darkly had discovered that an organized gang led by a man named, Tex Mex, was extorting the residents of Tent City and were likely responsible for the graffiti on the church doors too.
AJ mentioned a customer of the bakery that lived and worked in Tent City who might be able to find out more details for them. Her name was Gyn. 3Gun agreed they had nothing to lose by asking; meanwhile he had to go and get a few things done before he went to see CrazyGoose for dinner.
He left the bakery and went straight to the hotel and up to his room. A good wash, a freshly pressed shirt and some water on his hair before combing with his fingers then hat squarely on his head, he went down to see Satchel, the manager. A bottle of fancy red wine that Satchel said was the latest thing from the shipments to the county seat and he was ready to enjoy a home cooked meal.
