The 1920s and 1930s
In the 1920s, Victorian ideas of morality were usurped by the modern "youth culture." Women bobbed their hair, threw away their corsets, shortened their skirts, wore makeup, drove cars, and smoked and drank in public. Silent movies and jazz became symbols of youthful rebellion against old-fashioned ideals, and cute, sassy names came into fashion.
