To cover or to uncover? 😕

"O prophet! Tell your wives and daughters and women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies. "

(Al-Ahzab:59)

Allah says 'Jilbaab' not a scarf or simply an Abaya.
Exactly what is a 'Jilbaab'?

Ibn Taymiyyah stated in Majma Al-Fataawa (22/110-111):

The jilbaab is a cover and Ibn Mas'ood, May Allah be pleased with him, and others called it 'Ridaa' and common people of today call it 'Izaar'. It is large and covers a woman's head and the rest of her body. Abu Ubaydah and others stated that it should hang from the top of the head; the only thing visible being the eyes. The Niqaab is a similar type of clothing.

Among other proofs contained in the sunnah of the prophet (PBUH) which indicates the obligation upon the woman to cover her face in front of strangers (and those she can conceivably marry like HER MALE COUSINS) is the hadith of A'isha (RA). She said;

"Riders used to pass by us when we accompanied the messenger of Allah (SAW) while we were in state of Ihram, if they came closer to us, we would lower the Jilbaab from our heads onto our faces. When they passed us , we would uncover our faces. "

Narrated by Ahmad, Abu Dawood and Ibn Majah.

Okay, so the point am trying to bring home is, Niqaab is pretty much a MUST. Scholars have different rulings concerning this matter. Some say it's a must, others say it's not but highly recommended and some say it is not a must to cover our faces.

Those scholars who ruled that it is permissible for us to show our faces, in addition to the fact that their conclusion is weak, have stipulated the condition that there should not be any FITNAH (temptation) caused by uncovering our faces. But Fitnah is unavoidable particularly in these times when men and women are less religious and there is little modesty. At the same time promoters of Fitnah have increased, and different cosmetics have been made and are being used by women all over the world.

Therefore my dear sisters, we should adhere to the hijaab, which by the will of Allah, will protect us from Fitnah.

We should not be like those women who wear the hijaab when they are in a society that adheres to wearing of hijaab and drops it when they are in a society that does not adheres to the wearing of hijaab.

And a big mistake most of us commit is we cover up properly in the open but uncover when we enter shops, hospitals, market places and classes (this is especially for university students). We end up displaying our faces and arms as if we are in the presence of our Mahrams. Let's fear Allah.

Sadly, some women from the Islamic world actually treat the hijaab like a local costume instead of a religious duty.
SubhanaAllah! They tend to uncover when they are in foreign countries and only cover up when they go back to their countries.

The beauty of Hijaab is so amazing. So beautiful Muslimahs, we should adhere to the hijaab because It's part of our deen and brings us closer to Allah.

Allah says in An-Nisa , verse 27.

"But the wish of those who follow their lust is that you should deviate away (from the right path) -far far away. "

Now we don't want that to happen to us, now do we? May Allah keep us on the right path. Amiiiin🎆
