"This calls for shopping!" Emilie cried in excitement, jumping out of the bed.
Logan laughed lightly, seeing her excitement.
"Okay Emilie. Breathe in" she said to herself and did do "and out." She released it.
"You are gonna buy Indian clothes?" Logan questioned out of curiosity.
"Duh! I would like to call it fusion clothes or modern Indian clothes." Emilie said, with a gleam in her eyes.
She was enthusiastic about trying clothes which were different from those she usually wore and represented a different culture.
"Okay then, Panda. Let's go and get you some new clothes." Logan said, as he looped his arm around Emilie. They made their way out of the house and towards the mall.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After driving for a while they finally reached the mall and got out the car. They entered the mall together and stopped at the centre of the floor and looked above to find any shops that sold Indian clothes.
"What are you gonna buy? Do you have any idea what they wear in this wedding stuff?" Logan asked.
"I...." was all Emilie managed to say.
"I have seen some videos and I think they wear lehengas and suits." Emilie said, still unsure.
Anyhow they decided to go to a shop on the 3rd floor to search for some outfits.
They entered the shop named 'The Indian Wedding Boutique'
A worker greeted them as entered the shop together.
"Namaste!" he said with folded hands and smiled at them.
They both smiled back.
"Wedding outfits for the bride and groom?" he asked them.
Emilie cleared her throat, a nervous habit.
"Why do we look seem to a couple to every stranger?" she asked herself mentally.
"Bride? Oh...no-no we are not getting married. We are here to shop for some outfits as we have to attend an Indian wedding." Logan explained.
"I am so sorry sir." Apologized the worker and gave them a guilty look.
"I got confused; you guys look beautiful together." he said sweetly.
"Not the first one to say that." Emilie thought to herself.
Logan looked at Emilie with a smile, to see that she was actually blushing.
"Thank you. We are best friends." Emilie said with a smile while Logan just nodded.
"Okay. Should we..." the worker asked, bowing towards the place that had the cloth stalls.
The shop was beautifully decorated. It had low yellow lights and its walls were covered with golden designs wallpaper. As they went inside, they met with many colourful and glittery wedding outfits, hanged in different stalls.
At the sight of them, Emilie's eyes gleamed with delight.
"These are so beautiful....." she cooed mentally.
"Love all of these, don't ya?" Logan asked her with amusement.
Emilie nodded enthusiastically.
"Ma'am I need to know for what ceremonies do you need outfits?" the worker asked
"Umm....I doesn't know actually. I have just been told that there will be 5 ceremonies. I only know about the wedding, not the others. " Emilie explained. "And call me Emilie. Please, no formality" she requested.
"Okay Emilie, these 5 ceremonies are namely: Haldi, Mehendi, Engagement, Wedding and Reception." the worker explained.
"I want to know how you are related to the couple who's getting married." he inquired.
"My mother is the wedding planner of this couple. The bride-to-be invited us. She and my mother were talking one day so my mother told her about me and Logan, and she was interested in meeting us." Emilie explained.
"So, that means you'll be there as special guests or something. I'll give quick details about the ceremonies I presume you don't know about. In haldi ceremony, both the bride and groom get applied with a paste of turmeric-"
Emilie gave him a questioned look.
"I know it sounds weird, but it has a reason behind it. In Mehendi ceremony, the bride along with the other girls gets beautiful designs printed with henna. This again has a reason behind it. Engagement, the bride and groom get each other to wear wedding rings. You know about the wedding. The reception is basically a formal ceremony in which lesser people come compared to the wedding. It's organized for those who couldn't attend the wedding." he explained.
"Thank you for telling about all these ceremonies. I would like to see the outfits in order of the ceremonies." Emilie said
All the while Logan quietly listened to whatever was being said.
"What I would suggest for Haldi is a simple Chikan kurti. It's not that important of a ceremony and you wouldn't want to spend much for all the outfits. Here are the Chikan kurtis, find out what you like."
He pointed at a stall which contained many different coloured long dress -like outfits.
Emilie slid many hanger, occasionally taking out outfits and placing it in front of her, for Logan and the worker to see. There was one kurti on which both of the agreed and Emilie also liked it.
It was a long white kurti, with chikankari and lace work. It was long laced sleeve.
She finalized it for the Haldi ceremony.
"For Mehendi, I would suggest a modern lehenga which is usually a crop top with a long skirt and duppatta. Here are some of them." the worker said.
Emilie picked out an outfit that caught her eyes. It was a raspberry pink lehenga with golden embroidery with a net golden duppatta.
Emilie got to the billing counter with these two outfits.
"When are you going to buy clothes for yourself?" Emilie asked Logan.
"I'll only buy a suit and waist coat. I will match them up with the white shirts and trousers I already have. I might buy them tomorrow when we again go to shopping." he replied back.
They got the billing done and came out of the shop. They had some pizza and cold drink in the food corner and the exited the mall.
The sun had started to drown and the sky was changing into hues of purple and orange.
They got back home and dropped on the stuff on Emilie's bed. They sat down and rested for few moments.
"Em, I was thinking of going back home. Do you need me or should I go?" Logan asked her.
"I..umm" she cleared her throat. "Would you mind staying back?" she asked him, almost pleadingly.
"No, 'couse not. What's up?" he asked, now with a little concern.
"You already know. I am afraid to sleep alone. I get paranoid and all, and end up not sleeping at all. Till the time mom was here, I was fine but I can never sleep in a house all alone." she said as she shivered with fear.
"Okay. I know that. Are you sure it's nothing serious?" he asked.
"I don't think so it's anything serious. It doesn't happen every day, just some days when I feel alone. Like these days, as mom's not there." she explained.
"Fine, let's some dinner now and get your mind distracted else if you want to order something." he said.
"Let's cook it together. I have had a lot of outside food." she said as she started to go out of the room followed by Logan.
They went inside the kitchen and gathered up the stuff required for cooking vegetable noodles.
Logan started with sautéing the vegetables while Emilie boiled the noodles. Logan added different sauces, pieces of chicken and some spice powders to the vegetables. Emilie strained the noodles and added it the spiced vegetables. Logan mixed everything up nicely and the kitchen was filled with the aroma of the noodles. The noodles were enough for a meal of two.
Emilie transferred the noodles from the pan to a big bowl. She picked up some strands of noodle between her thumb and index. She was about to bring it to her to taste it when Logan, in the blink of an eye slurped it out of her finger. She threw a glare at Logan as he chewed it. She brought her fingers to her mouth, and started to lick the sauce absent-mindedly.
"That contains my saliva." Logan stated, after he finished the food in his mouth.
Emilie scrunched her face with disgust.
"You are so gross!" she yelled and wiped her fingers on his t shirt.
After a while, Emilie's mood had got better as Logan always made it. They had their dinner and went to the bedroom to get ready for sleep.
Emilie changes into an oversized black t shirt and solid gray pajamas. Logan borrowed one of Emilie's dad's pajamas and changed into it. They settled into bed and turned the light off. Complete darkness spread into the room. Emilie slowly went to sleep but Logan kept awake, staring at her, as if waiting for a sign to know that she will be fine.
Emilie started dreaming.
She saw woman was sitting on a big rock with her back facing Emilie which showed her long dark hair. In an instant, the woman jerked her head towards Emilie. She face was of white color with cracks everywhere and her eyes were yellow. She looked horrifying.
Emilie grabbed Logan's hand as soon as she saw this. Her heart was thumping furiously inside her chest. Logan got the sign he needed. He pulled Emilie towards him and slung an arm protectively around her. He stroked her hair gently and her heart rate started to slower down its pace. Slowly and gradually it became normal. She wrapped her arms tightly around Logan and snuggled into his chest. Logan kissed her hair, still stroking. Emilie fell asleep again, this time feeling protected and loved. Logan just closed his eyes but didn't sleep. He was way more worried about Emilie than he cared about his sleep.
