Chapter 8- School Clubs

" Students, lunch will be over in ten minutes. Also, Ivy Reckon, please come to Mr. Harrison's office now," Mrs. Lee, the principal's assistant, announced over the intercom. Ivy's throat went dry while her heart skipped a beat.
" Am I in trouble? Did someone see me disappear in the girls' bathroom?" Ivy inquired herself as she anxiously walked toward the principal's office.
Quaking in her sneakers, Ivy knocked on the door of Mr. Harrison's office.
" Come in," Mr. Harrison replied calmly. Slowly, Ivy opened the door and stepped inside the office.
" Hello, Ivy please sit," Mr. Harrison remarked, his soft blue eyes full of kindness. He did not seem so intimidating, but Ivy was still nervous. Following his request, Ivy sat down in one of the comfortable armchairs.
" Hello. Am I in trouble? If I am, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to do anything," Ivy muttered quickly.
" Ivy, calm down. You're not in trouble. I just called you to ask what school  club you are going to be joining ," Mr. Harrison explained.
The burden of getting in trouble lifted off of Ivy's shoulders, but then she replayed what Mr. Harrison had just told her, and her stomach dropped.
" Wait, what clubs? My parents never told me I had to join a club at school. Is it mandatory?" Ivy asked, her palms perspiring.
" At Wenterson Middle School, every Friday, students get one hour after lunch to do activities in their clubs. The clubs all have captains, but a teacher or coach will always be there  to supervise and assist. Yes, it is mandatory. Here, we believe that school clubs build empathy and creativity in our students. I know you have social anxiety, but this will help you bond with other students and make friends. Each club has a maximum of thirty students. Most of the clubs are full. Here are the available clubs," Mr. Harrison responded.
Dance Team (hip hop girls's team)
  Drama club
  Art Club
Gymnastics Team
Ivy's eyes widened in fear. She had to join a club with other people! Ivy wanted to burst into tears and scream, but she controlled herself.
" But, but," Ivy started, but Mr. Harrison cut her off.
" Ivy, you can do this. Just try each club out and choose which  one you like. You won't regret it," Mr. Harrison emphasised( English spelling), but Ivy knew that she was definitely going to regret it.

Dance team ( dance studio)

" Ivy, you can do this," Ivy whispered as she pulled open the door of the dance studio. The studio was a large room, with wooden floors and music speakers. Ivy froze. The room was filled with about twenty- five girls, all wearing purple crop tops and black leggings.Luckily, Claire was nowhere in sight.
" Hey, thanks so much for coming! We were just about to start. Are you new? My name is Victoria and I am the hip hop dance team captain," tall girl with dark black hair which had light browns highlights exclaimed.
" Um, I 'm Ivy and I am new," Ivy replied, feeling extremely nervous. Everyone here seemed so experienced and talented, while Ivy  had no coordination whatsoever.
" Great! Before you officially join the dance team, you just have to have a little audition. I will do some easy choreography and you just have to follow me. If you do it well, you get to be on the team. Girls, listen up, it's audition time," Victoria remarked enthusiastically. Ivy broke out in a cold sweat. This was not going to go well.
All of a sudden the teacher supervising, Mrs. Helen, played an upbeat song and Victoria began to dance. First, she dropped to floor, then clapped her hands. Secondly, she jumped back up and did some confusing twisting movement with her feet. Lastly, she did a jump split.
Ivy's jaw dropped in awe- that was amazing, but at the same time extremely hard.
" Now, you try," Victoria stated.
Ivy was clueless. Not knowing what to, Ivy began doing the chicken dance. Everyone was silent.
" Um, I admire you for trying, but that wasn't the best. So sorry, but I don't think you can join the team. Hope we can still be friends," Victoria explained. Ivy knew this would happen, so she was not really mad.
" Well, thanks for not being mean. It's fine. I know I'm not great at dancing," Ivy responded as she waved and left the dance studio. Next stop, the art room.

Art club ( art room)

" Hello, thanks for coming! I am Anasofia the head of the art club. No audition is needed for the club. Come on in," a girl with hazel brown eyes and curly hair said in a kind voice.
The art room was full of art supplies, and had incredible paintings and drawings hung on the sky blue walls. Ivy recognised    ( English spelling) a boy named Zane from her class, but everyone else was unfamiliar. Ivy gulped.
" Ok, today's project is going to be a painting of the sunset. After Sam and I will be judging your work," Anasofia announced.
One million thoughts whirled in Ivy's mind. People had to judge her work? She didn't feel comfortable knowing people would have to see her work and judge it. Not knowing what to do, Ivy bolted out of the art room. It was too much.
"Wait!" Anasofia yelled, but Ivy was already gone.

Gymnastics club ( gym)

Ivy was out of breath as she finally arrived at the gym. She felt guilty about running out, but she couldn't handle people judging her work. Anasofia had been welcoming, but Ivy still didn't feel comfortable.
" Hi, I'm Thalia, the captain of the girls's gymnastics team. That's Coach Samantha," a girl with dark brown eyes and wavy hair greeted, motioning for the coach to come over to where Ivy and her were standing.
" Hey. Listen up, gymnastics club is serious. If you can't commit, you're out. Now, what can you do?"Coach Samantha explained in a rough voice. Her intense stare and wide eyes made her pretty intimidating.
Ivy's hands began to tremble while she replied softly, " I don't know how to do any tricks. Mr. Harrison just told me I had to join a club, so I came here."
" Well, I'm sorry, but this club isn't for you," Coach Samantha answered.
" Coach, at least let her have a chance," Thalia pleaded, but Ivy had already left the room. A small tear ran down her face.
" Hopefully drama club will be better," Ivy mumbled.

Drama club ( acting room)

Ivy's heart fluttered as she entered the room and saw Chandler standing on the stage rehearsing lines, but then her heart sank as she saw Claire standing right next to him.
" Hey, welcome to drama club. I'm Mia, the head. This year we are putting on a classic play, Romeo and Juliet. The roles have already been cast, but we still need some students to help with props and stage setup. You in?" a girl with light brown hair and bright blue eyes asked.
Ivy thought for a second. She didn't have to act in front of everyone, and she would get to see Chandler. Ivy smiled.
   " I'm in," Ivy answered.
