Chapter 5

Third Person POV:

The walked slowly passed the many docks searching for a large boat, trying to find a way to board them. The large group had been walking for several moments before walking in upon a large shipping dock, they turned, looking at the massive boat. Kit made her way to the large boat looking for the docking area, she knew that this boat that the boat would be big enough for he large group, now all she needed to do was get to was get up there. She searched the area around the boat, looking for a ladder or plank that she could lean against the boat so that she could climb up to the deck..

She looked around the large area before turning to the group behind her "Help me find a way to get up there... if I can get up to the deck I can find the rope ladder."

The group split up to look through all the little nooks and crannies around the docks. One of the smaller kids yelled in joy as she pulled out a large and tall plank. Kit smiled at the child before her.

Kit bent down to her eye level "And what's you name little one?"

"My names Lizzy!!" Lizzy's eyes gleamed with excitement, excitement about being outside being free and suddenly Kit felt a sudden pang of guilt. 'How long had she been in that place? How long did she have to suffer before I got her out?'

Kit smiled sadly at Lizzy, take hold of the large plank. Kit walked back towards the boat. Laying it on the very edge of the deck making sure that it was steady before Kit began to slowly climb up, making her way the railing, taking hold of the rail and hopping over the metal bar. As she landed she began to survey the area of the deck, looking for the rope ladder that she could throw down to the other children. As she turned to her left she noticed a small hole in the railing, and low and behold there was the rope ladder, lying in the little area in the opening between the disconnected railing.

"Found it, I'll throw it down now. One of the older kids should go fist and then help the smaller kids get up afterwards." Kit yelled down to the group as she threw the ladder to one of the older boys.

As soon as the entire group was up the ladder Kit grabbed five of the older kids and began to drag them towards the door she presumed was the area that controlled the steering. As she opened the door she was greeted with a large room filled with buttons and levers, all which Kit had no idea how they worked. She walked up to the large wheel looking at all the buttons in front of her. Staring in confusion at the little blinking lights, the large knobs and the crazy looking wheelie things...

Kit looked back at the small group that was behind her staring in confusion at all the same things as her, she turned away from them and began to look for some sort of instruction manual for this complicated contraption. She was looking under one of the cabinets when she noticed a large book covered in dust. She pulled it out and immediately looked for the directions of how to turn it on, finding out that it was as simple as pushing a lever. After turning it on she turned to the page that would tell her how to reverse the boat out of the port turn a knob to determine how fast you wanted to reverse was quite simple. Again, turning the pages to look for how to move forward, finding that all she had to do was simply move a lever up and down depending on how fast she wanted. After she had finally figured out how to properly word the contraption she explained it to the small group around her.

After telling them that they would be taking turns as to who would be steering. Kit turned and smiled proudly at the kids as she walked out of the room, hearing the cheers of the children. She walked through the small huddles of friend groups telling them that they could eat their food rations for the day and occasionally stopping to talk with certain groups.

They had been sailing for a day and a half, a day and a half of barfing and being bored, Kit stared up at the smog filled shy, her mother would tell her about all the stars that her mother could see when she was little. Kit smiled at the thought of her mother, before sitting up and looking around her at all the happy faces of the children around her.

Kit turned to Izzy who lay beside her as an idea popped into her mind. "Izzy go get the smaller kids for me, will you?" Izzy nodded and ran off.

Kit smiled at the large group around her and then began to tell them about all the different legends behind the small number of stars that were barely visible in the smoggy sky, she pointed to one and began to tell the story "That one right there is called Aquarius the Water Bearer, she is summer constellation, and can be best viewed in the night sky during this month of September. She brings water all around the world creating oceans and lakes. Can you see her outline?" She spoke softly seeing some of the smallest children beginning to fall asleep as, so she began her next myth "Next month we will be able to see Pisces the Fishes, they are an Autumn constellation, Pisces brings life to the oceans, lakes and ponds, bringing fresh fish to the world." She smiled as she final child's head fell onto their pillow, soundly asleep.

Kit walked away and brought back several large blankets that they had previously found in one of the storage rooms, laying them over the many children. She walked over to her hammock below deck, drifting into a peaceful sleep.

She woke up the next morning to the sound of yelling, she sat up and began to walk back up to top deck, only to be met with one of the strangest sights she had ever seen. There they were in the middle of the ocean three large white jelly fish shaped buildings, all of which had blocks of green running down the doom like sides, looking into the plastic filled water only to see that there was no plastic in the water around the three-jelly fish like constructions. Kit turned towards the steering room and began to walk towards the radar hoping to find out just how big these things were, only to see that there was nothing showing on the radar. Kit stared in bewilderment at the strange occurrence, before looking over at her computer only to see that they were right next to where the coordinated are place.

Kit ran out of the steering room and leaned over the railing and yelled "We're here! Everyone, get your stuff, get to the life boats!" She smiled as they slowly rose, grumbling about it being too early for yelling.

The groups split in five groups of five, each getting a life boat. As they slowly moved towards the closest jellyfish, staring at the four-outlying shape that each one had, noticing the barrier that was filled with clumps of algae. They continued to row until they had made an almost full circle around the entire thing, but just as they were about to finish the route, one of the smaller kids ran his hand through the water touching a strange pad, setting of something making a large door begin to open.

The child yelled in surprise as it lifted, making every turn to him. Kit's eyes widened at the large shifting door, before her face split into a smile, slowly trying to turn her boat so that she could try to look inside. Kit's boat moved passed the door way and into an area that looked like a small dock.

She turned back to the waiting boats and call out "It's safe, you can come in!!"

She turned back after seeing that they had begun to move inside and began to row towards one of the many mini-ledges. As her boat touched the edge, she hopped out and landed unsteadily looking back to try and help the rest of the kids out of the boat. After they had all gotten out she group began to explore the area that they were in.

Kit ran her over the sides f the room looking for some way to get out and look for other rooms. She ran her hand over a particularly bumpy area, pushed down and watched in awe as a light scanned over her wrist before she heard a click and a door appeared and opened.

She slowly walked through the door, Izzy close behind her, staring at the crisp white walls around them. Kit and Izzy walked slowly through the multiple halls, looking though the large glass windows at all these strange machines, until they came up upon a large room full of tread mill like machines, with racks of dirt on them. A large book lay on the table beside it, labeled 'Aquaponics Mechanism', under the table lay several large boxes labeled with different kinds of seeds and plants. They walked out and came upon many other rooms of the same side but with different machines and systems.

They walked for what seemed like hours before finally finding the bedrooms, Kit left Izzy in the hall that was lined with bedrooms, telling him to keep his tracker on so she could lead the rest of the group there. When she had arrived, she pushed the bumpy area again, the light scanned the numbers again, she walked into the room and looked around the room only to see that the entire place was in chaos.

Kit's eyes widened at the sight of the area, overturned potted plants, bags emptied all over the place, children yelling random nonsense while they ran around chasing each other, and Kit began to laugh. It had been so long since Kit had laughed, it had been almost a year and a half since she laughed, laughed because of joy. All of the movement seemed to come to a sudden halt at the tinkling sound, they slowly turned to search for it.

After she had stopped laughing she spoke loudly hoping that they would all hear her "Alright guys lets clean this up, then we can all head to the bedrooms that Izzy and I found." The group cheered as they began to clean up the large mess.

They walked down the halls following Kit, as she held her computer out, so she would watch where Izzy is. Once they had arrived the smaller children ran around claiming their beds and began to unpack all the food. An hour later everyone had finally figured out how to use the high-tech toilets and had started to go to bed, soon falling asleep.

The next morning Kit was the first one to wake up, her feet touching the cold ground without a sound, she made her way over to one of the large closets that lined the walls around the bunk beds, opening it to look for some clean clothes. After finding clothes and changing into them, Kit made her way out of the room, looking at the strange rooms until she made it to the one that had the treadmill things in it.

Kit walked over to the large book, opening it to the first page only to see that it was instructions on how to use the contraption. She quickly skimmed over the basic idea of the mechanisms, spraying the large dirt-covered tray with water and brought out the seed-filled box labeled 'Lettuce', sprinkling them over the moist dirt. After making sure that the seeds were evenly incorporated throughout the dirt she slid the tray onto the treadmill and turned on the light, leaving afterward, planning on come back in a day or two to water them again.

Leaving back to the bedrooms, to wake up everyone for the day, wake them up for a new beginning.
