Chapter 4
Third Person POV:
Kit and Eric circled each other, like to predators fighting for what they believed was theirs. She lunged for the first blow, Eric easily dodged, Kit strikes quickly swinging her leg around hitting his stomach. Eric quickly recovered striking her quickly in the stomach, Kit groaned at the air was knocked out of her lungs, her legs gave out as she fell to the floor gasping for air. She lay there staring up at the monster before her, she tried to get up only to receive a sharp kick to her abdomen, that action was repeated time and time again, Eric smiled sadistically at the tears that rolled down her face as Kit screamed for him to stop. The children that she had tried to save watched in horror as the man continued to beat the girl black and blue.
Kit had curled up into a ball trying to shield her stomach and arms from the harsh abuse, tears continued to roll down her cheeks, until just as another kick was about to be delivered there was a crack then a loud thud that sounded like a body hitting the ground hard. She looked through clouded eyes at the small figure holding a large metal bar at his side.
Her voice cracked "Izzy?"
Izzy stared at the crumpled body of the man she had just hot over the head with a metal pole. He dropped the pole as he rushed toward Kit's battered body. Here breathing was uneven and forced, the many children snapped out of their trances as they saw the small bow try to life her. Two of the older kids stepped forward pulling one of Kit's arms over their shoulders. The large group slowly made their way up to level one, Izzy was leading the group now carful to follow Kit's muffled instructions. As they turned one last corner they saw something that would give them some hope, vans, at least twenty of them.
Kit began to stand on her own legs not a moment after seeing the vans, turning to address the large crowed of children.
"Does anyone know how to drive!?" A few hands tentatively rose after she asked. She gave a small smile before nodding.
"Good, all the people that know how to drive move toward one of the vans, you must take at least 6 kids with you! If the doors don't open break them and open it with the inside lock mechanisms!! Once you've gotten the younger kids into the vans meet me at the front." Kit turned towards the van that was parked at the very front of the line, she knew that if she was going to get them all to the palace she was going to have to coordinate.
As she reached the front with Izzy by her side she quickly smashed the driver's side window with a nearby wrench and unlocked the car door. Her surroundings were filled with the sound of glass breaking, soon enough all but herself, Izzy and 5 teenagers stood outside.
"Alright, I know that we just met but I need you to listen to me, my father taught me a small amount about reading maps and from what I can tell these tattoos are coordinates of some sort..." Kit trailed off at the end hoping that someone would confirm this or at least help her figure it out.
"Izzy? Can you give me my computer? I need to check if your able to type in coordinates." She held her computer out staring at the glowing screen scanning for the search bar.
Her eyes finally landed on a small bar in the very corner of the computer 'Coordinates'. She stared at the words as her heart began to rise 'They could get there, they were so close'
Her face split into a grin as she began to furiously type the numbers into the search bar, occasionally pulling Izzy's wrist towards her to check the numbers.
"Found it... And it's in the middle of the ocean..." She stared at the little red dot that was surrounded by a vase sea of blue.
The 6 people around her seemed to fall at her words 'In the middle of the ocean!?' They all seemed to think at the same time.
"Ok, we can work with this... let's try and get as close as possible, look the dot's closest docks are in Miami-" she spoke as she pointed at the small yellow line symbolizing the docks"-and if we figure out how to sail one large ship we probably won't crash..." Her small attempt at humor seemed to only make the situation tenser.
"Alright, I'm going to head out for a few minutes and find some food, I need all of you to help me get it back."
Kit and the others quickly moved back out of the metal doors, searching for both water and food, they could be traveling for at least 2 days and they had young children with them. They would need to eat at least 1 to 2 times each day, not to mention how long it might take for them to get to their destination my ship.
They had split into two separate groups thinking that it would be faster, after 5 minutes, she heard her name being called from two or three corridors down, the small group ran down the small corridors finally finding the other group, standing in front of them was a large wooden door labeled kitchen.
Kit's face split into a grin as she ushered the 6 other people into the large kitchen, each quickly grabbed a large box and began to fill it with foods that would last a long period of time, dried meat, dried fruit, cereals and granola and at least 20 liters of water on each of their arms. '120 liters would be enough for now, right? Maybe they could come back for more food and water... Yea defiantly two or more trips.'
"Alright, each of you are going to take these boxes and the water back to you separate vans, then you going to come back and get the same amount and load it up then we set out got it?" They gave a quick nod before the entire group set off back towards the vans, loading them and heading back to the kitchens.
After they had finished loading the vans all the children go into the backs of the vans making sure not to break or nock over any of the food. And so, they set off and for the next 2 days they traveled across the U.S toward Miami, only stopping occasionally to eat or take a bathroom break. They traveled in a single file line the entire time making sure that no one got lost. They had to use their food and water sparingly each child was only allowed 2-3 cups each day, most of the older kids only had 1-2 because they knew that they would be ok is they had less than the littler kids.
They had finally arrived in Miami after two and a half pain staking days. Kit slowly pulled the van to a stop. Staring at the large group or metal and wood planks that would lead to at least one large boat. They were running low on food and water that much they knew, and that meant that they would have to go out and look for more.
Kit had gathered a large group consisting of children of 16-18 years of age, she knew that some of the older kids would have to stay behind to look after the younger children.
"Split up into groups of three, whatever food and water you find, bring it back and pile it in front of you vans, so that we can evenly disperse it around. Be back in 1 to 1 and a half hours or were going to be forced to leave you, the government won't be far behind use..." She spoke softly as she turned away and began to walk in the opposite direction of the others.
The small group walked for 10 to 15 minutes before they stumbled upon a small shop, seemingly unused and not broken into. One of the boys she was traveling with walked up to the glass with a large rock he had found a couple of meters away and smashed it into the middle of the glass, stepping back to watch as the glass shattered and fell to the floor. The small groups climbed through the now broken font window and began to take food off the shelves stuffing them into the bags that were at the counter, grabbing 5 of the two-liter bottles each.
The quickly handed the tracker to the other girl telling her that she would come back for her in ten minutes. Kit and the boy ran back to where they had parked the van laying down the food and water, grabbing five 10-year old's and telling them to follow them. Kit pulled out her computer as they ran back to their previous destination following the blue line leading to the girl. As they arrived she instructed the smaller kids to grab as many two-liter water bottles as they could carry while she told the older kids to get as much food as possible.
"Guys, we have 20 minutes before we have to set out to find the boat, so we should probably start packing this stuff into an easier way to move it." She spoke loudly enough for the group to hear as she walked towards her van, opening it and flipping up the seats to reveal large military use back packs. She handed one to each kid holding supplies and asked them to start packing the food.
The group began to pack the food into the large back packs making sure that they weren't too heavy, considering that almost every kid would have to carry a pack. They waited another 15 minutes before the other groups came back with a small amount of water filter pills, some dried fruit and dried meat. After packing the small amount of food in to another pack they began to walk down the docks, hoping to find a boat that would be large enough to hold all of them.
