The Pain of Family Dinner
I don't know how I got here.
In Midoriya's bedroom, just me and him.
Being, friends.
Over the weeks me and Midoriya have grown closer, I even bring him to my home for training. Although he is very optimistic, which I find partially annoying, I don't mind spending time with him. Why does everyone remind me of you?
The school hasn't been bad, classes are easy to manage and my homeroom hasn't had any more incidents with that brunette. I also learned that Midoriya has quite a crush on her. I can see why, she's very pretty. Of course, that doesn't mean I like her.
"I still can't believe you picked Deku as your hero name, Midoriya." I shake my head with a huff "I'm sure Bakugou just loves that."
"I-It's not about Kachaan Delaney!" He shook his head before dropping the book he had in his arms on his foot "Ow!" he whimpered falling to the ground and making me laugh.
I remember the day everyone chose their hero names, of course, Bakugou's crude names got shut down before he ultimately pouted like a child and went silent. When asked my hero's name I knew Immedtly what I wanted.
"Paralysis." I nodded before looking back down at my desk.
"Isn't that just you're quirk name?" Todoroki turned, questioning me.
"It's better than just my name, right? Shoto?"
I promised myself only one friend, Midoriya was the exception, but Todoroki was getting scarcely close to the "friend" level.
"Are you scared for the sports festival?" Midoriya asked me setting the book against his bed before sitting down next to me.
"No." I shook my head "I expected things like these to happen, we are in a hero school after all." I chuckle softly before I notice his fingers twitch "Right." He mumbled.
With a soft sigh, I placed my hand against his "Midoriya, the point of the sports festival is not to win."
"What?" Midoriya asked tilting his head.
"Of course, you can try and win. But what you should be focused on is the audience." I nodded, there was no point in denying it. Midoriya was my friend, and I wanted to give him the best advice I could. "The audience, being pro and public eye ...Do you understand what I'm saying?"
Midoriya gave me a nod, offering me a smile. "Yeah, Yeah I do! I'm still going to win Delaney. And if we have to face each other I don't want you to hold back."
"I wasn't planning to. It wouldn't be a fair fight if I did." I nodded with a smile, I wasn't sure what I was planning for the sports festival. Did I want to win? Wouldn't that cause unnecessary attention? But again, It wouldn't be fair to anyone if I gave an easy fight.
"Izuku, darling."
Both our heads turn to look at Midoriya's mother, Inko, who walked into the room. Her face turned bright red before letting out a gasp "I'm so sorry!" she yelled before quickly slamming the door shut behind her.
Both me and Midoriya look at each other before looking down at our hands, mine on top of his. "Oh shit," I muttered realizing what his mother had assumed walking in.
We both quickly stand up, before rushing out of the room. "M-Mom! It's not what it looks like!" Midoriya yelled out chasing her down the hallway.
"Truly! Mrs. Midoriya, I'm sorry if you got the wrong idea." I bowed my head before slowly looking up at her, only to see her smiling at me. "It's okay, I didn't realize my baby Izuku had a guest. What's your name?"
"Mom!"
"Darnell, Delaney." I nod with a nervous smile, I was never good with parents. Maybe it had something to do with my own mommy and daddy issues, but parents, adults, struck a certain nerve.
"She likes to go by Delaney." Midoriya piped in with a nod. And I couldn't help but let out a chuckle.
"Nice to meet you Delaney, would you care to join us for dinner?" Mrs. Midoriya asked with a kind smile. I immediately shook my head with a chuckle "Oh no, I couldn't impose. I was actually just on my way."
"Delaneys parents are actually on a trip!" Midoriya nodded with one of those, annoying bright smiles.
"Dinner will be ready in about twenty minute!" Mrs. Midoriya piped up from the kitchen. I turned to Izuku who was sitting on the couch. "Why would you tell her my parents are away?" I frowned, crossing my arms under my chest. The black long sleeve that I had on showed my chest a bit to much to my liking.
"W-well...I didn't want you spending another dinner alone. And she assumes I meant they were on a work trip I'm sure of it." he assured me with a nod. I could tell he only meant good out of the gesture, but my parents being gone would bring questions. Questions that I would have to make up an answer on the spot.
"Midoriya-" I sighed before being interrupted by the doorbell.
"Oh that must be our guests! Kids would you mind greeting them?" Inko smiled, making me immediately nod. God, she was just like Midoriya.
Turning to the boy I glared at him "Guests?" I whispered making the boy stammer. "B-before you see who it is, don't freak out."
Who the hell is at the door?
Walking over to the door I opened it before Midoriya could stop me, I swung the door open making my hair slightly move from the wind. Seeing who was at the door made me pause, it was Bakugou.
"Bakugou?" I question, my face turning with surprise. Before turning to Midoriya who looked nervous, very nervous. He was probably worried I'd freak out and start yelling at the other blonde boy.
Instead I stepped aside holding the door open for Bakugou and what I presumed was his parents.
"The fuck is she doing here?" Bakugou piped up looking between me and Midoriya.
"Oy! Katsuki, is that anyway of talking to a girl?" Bakugou's mother, I presumed, yelled before giving him a gentle slap against the back of the head. "What's your name, dear?" she smiled turning to me.
Letting out a gulp I looked between both parents before opening my mouth only to be beaten by Bakugou.
"Darnell, Delaney. She's in my class."
"Delaney? Oh she's the girl you were talking about!" His mother exclaimed with a smile clapping both her hands together. "It's so nice to meet you!"
As the adults walk to the kitchen, leaving us three by the front door we all stand in scilence.
"So are you two like fucking dating now, or what?" Bakugou spoke up, his tone was rough and the glare he was shooting Midoriya would even put me on edge.
"No." I scoffed rolling my eyes before my gaze met Bakugou's "You lied to your mom, why?"
"Cause it's not my fucking secrete, princess." His tone was mocking and yet it made me soften. Maybe, possibly, he wasn't as cruel as I thought. "Thank you." I nodded before hearing us being called to the dinner table.
"So, Delaney, did you grow up here? You speak perfect japanese." Mrs. Bakugou asked breaking the silent dinner table.
"No, I was raised in America, my father was originally from Japan. I suppose I just learned from him." I nodded with a soft chuckle staring down at my food.
I can see why many assume I'm not from Japan, I take after my mother almost identically. She had moved to Japan from Californa, when she was nineteen. That's where she met my father, and in less than a year of meeting they were married.
I was never close with my mother, by the time I was talking she had picked up the habit of drinking.
"Do you miss you're parents?" Inko asked as she looked over my way, making me pause.
Letting out a quiet chuckle I look down at my lap before looking back up. "I suppose." I nodded before taking a bite of my food, This is exactly why I didn't want to join family dinner.
"Do you have any siblings?"
Gulping down my food I look to Mrs. Bakugou staring into me. I glance to Bakugou before looking back at her "I–uh did." I nodded "He's not around anymore."
God, these people are nosey.
"I'm sorry dear, Is it just you at home right now?" Mitsuki frowned.
"Are you excited for the sports festival Kachaan?" Midoriya interrupted, rather abruptly. Making me let out a sigh of relif that the heat was off of me.
