Chapter 21: Secrets

Previously:
I waited to be the last one so I could say, "Seriously, I'll come get you. I might even come get you in a week anyways and take you to camp with me."

Harry's smile was worth all the trouble I could get in for that. "Thanks, Percy."

I pat his shoulder and glared down Vernon as Penny and I walked away. The man might have needed new pants when I yanked my trident smoothly out of the ground.

"C'mon Penny," I said, linking my arm with her's. "I need to spend some time at home before heading to camp."

"When are you heading to the camp?" Ron asked at dinner around the food in his mouth a few days later.

The twins looked up from whatever they were doing at the moment besides eating. I suspected it had something to do with the joke shop they were setting up in Diagon Ally.

Bill and Charlie were over for a few weeks and they were on the other end of the table, talking about something. I think it was about their school days, I wasn't really listening; I was talking with Arthur about the upheaval at work. Since I had been working directly with the Minister, I had been questioned heavily by the Aurors about Voldemort coming back and how Fudge had covered it up. I give it about another week or so before he's finally out of office and someone else takes his place.

"I'll be going at the beginning of next week, I think." I said. It was already Wednesday and we had just gotten back from Hogwarts two days ago. Penny had gone to visit her parents for until we left since she hadn't seen them in a while. I was to go pick her up and at the same time...meet her parents. "I'm stopping by Privet Drive to pick up Harry on my way. I promised to take him with me."

"Percy, are you sure that Dumbledore is okay with this?" Molly questioned uncertainly. "I thought Dumbledore was going to get Harry himself to bring him here."

"He told you that?" I said thoughtfully. There must be something more than what he is telling me. I got up. "I need to go."

"Where are you going?" Fred asked curiously.

"I'm going to get Albus and make him spill his secrets." I said without thought.

"Percy!" Molly exclaimed.

"What?" I asked. "Hecate has been noticing something off with him too. He can't be keeping things like this to himself right now. Especially not from me and Hecate."

"Why not from you?" George asked. "I get why not from Hecate, you know, Lady Magic and all but why you?"

"Because I am her champion." I answered. "Basically her second in command kind of thing."

"Woah," the twins said in sync.

"Anyways, thanks for dinner, Mum!" I called as I started upstairs to my room. "I've got to grab a few things then I'll just leave from my room."

"How is he going to leave from his room?" I heard Ron ask in confusion.

I was too far upstairs already to hear Molly's answer. As I entered my room, I absentmindedly created a mist with my powers and placed a prism by the window to catch the dying light. "Oh Fleecy, do me a solid and show me Hecate."

As I waited, I moved around the room, moving clothes around to look for something.

"What do you need, Percy? Is it Harry?" Hecate's voice came over my shoulder.

"Yes and no," I answered. "Dumbledore isn't telling us everything. He told Molly that he was going to go pick up Harry in a couple weeks to bring him to the Burrow. He told Harry and Sirius that he needed to go live with his aunt and uncle for a while every summer so that the protection from his mother was strengthened. And I have made it clear that I am going to pick him up in about a week to take him with me to camp. He's hiding something."

"Percy, you can't bring Harry to camp," Hecate started. "But yes, I agree that Dumbledore is not telling us everything. I will meet you at the castle in a few minutes."

"Like Hades I'm not taking Harry to camp. He can through the border, he'll love it." I said, finally turning around to look at the Iris message. "What are you doing?"

"What?" The goddess of magic had a blueberry muffin halfway to her mouth.

"Where are you?" l asked. "You had better not be in Athena's library."

"Why not? Did we figure out how to alter Medusa's curse without asking Athena to stop being prideful for two minutes?"

"No," I said slowly. "You are eating inside Athena's library. I thought everyone knew Athena was the kind of book owner to keep food and drink far away from the books."

Hecate's eyes widened. She quickly looked over her shoulder as she vanished the muffin in her hand. "I'm coming, meet me at the front doors." She then passed her hand through the Iris message.

I shook my head at her antics and went back to looking for my backpack from Hermes. I had a feeling I was going to need all the space that came with it.

"Percy?" I heard Ron's voice just as I found my backpack.

"Aha!" I lifted it up in triumph.  "Hey, Ron, what's up?"

"Do you think you could take Hermione, Ginny and I along with you to get Harry and go to camp?"

I looked over to see the two youngest Weasleys and the twins at my doorway. "What, the twins don't want to come?"

"No we do," George hurried to assure me. "It's just that we need to be here to set up our store. We were planning on opening it while you are away."

"Without me?" I put my hand on my chest in pretend offense.

"With all the feedback we've been getting about our opening, you don't want to be here on opening day unless you want to help out." Fred said in a tone that said he was slightly dreading the crowd. "Lee Jordan is coming to help for the first few days and even then we know we'll be swamped."

I slumped. "Alright." I narrowed my eyes at Ron and Ginny. "Have you asked Mum? I thought she wouldn't like for you to come to camp with me from all I've told her about it."

Ginny nodded. "It took some convincing but she said we could go."

"What about Hermione?" I asked. "Do her parents realize what camp is going to be like?"

"Can't be more crazy than Hogwarts, right?" Ron said. "That's what she told her parents anyways."

I smirked. "Oh, you have no idea," I said lowly. I thought about it some more. "Well, you might be able to use your magic there considering the barrier around it..."

The hope inside my sibling's eyes grew.

"Alright," I relented. "We'll pick up Hermione on the way to Harry's. If anything happens, you are not to tell mum or Hermione's parents."

"Yes!" Ginny threw her hands up and ran down the stairs to tell Mum.

The boys followed in a not very organized fashion. I shook my head and prepared to vapor travel to the front doors of Hogwarts.

"What took you so long?"

"My siblings decided they wanted to come along with me and Harry to camp." I said. "We'll also be picking up Hermione on the way to Harry's."

Hecate sighed. "There's no stopping you from taking them there, is there?"

"Nope," I said cheerfully. "Oh, I've also got to pick up Penny after we get Harry." I frowned. That's a lot of people coming to camp. I shrugged. There's room in my cabin if there isn't anywhere else.

"They can bunk in my cabin if they would like." Hecate said as we started inside. "I know my children loved being here and wanted to learn more but didn't have the time in this last school year."

"You know, you should send them to Ilvermorny," I said.

Hecate stumbled in her walking for a second. "I hadn't thought of that."

"You're welcome."

We arrived at Dumbledore's office to see him talking to Snape. The headmaster was sagging sideways in the throne like chair behind the desk. Snape was sitting in the chair on the other side of the desk looking like he was trying not to be sick. They both looked as if they had just finished an important conversation.

I looked between them for a second, taking in as much information as I could. Albus' hand was blackened up to the wrist. A broken ring lay on the desk and a ruby encrusted sword lay next to it. Snape held a golden goblet in his hand as he sat before the headmaster. All of which I could gather from what I saw, it was nothing compared to what Hecate seemed to feel.

"Albus, how did you get your hands on that?" She demanded.

"Is this why you have come to see me today?"

"If that means anything like I think it does then yes," Hecate answered. "I also suspect that you have brought Severus Tobias Snape in on your secrets and I will ask why once we learn what they are. Percy has told me that you are not telling him everything, which is what we had agreed on when he came to help."

Albus sighed in resignation. "How could I refuse you, my lady?"

"Albus, who is she? Why is Weasley here?" Snape asked, looking at me like I was the scum beneath his shoes.

I straightened to my full height. "This is Lady Magic," I answered dangerously. "I am Perseus Jackson, the son of Poseidon, and her champion. I am here to help protect Harry and fight against Voldemort. Surely you knew who I was after the stories you've heard from the meetings with the Death Eaters who were at the Ministry?"

"Percy, I erased their memories." Hecate put in.

I turned to her. "Why do you always have to steal my thunder?"

"They can't know about the demigods, they'll have a way to find more resources that my children here cannot fight against!" She turned to Snape. "And considering how close you are to him, I will need to erase your memories after this meeting as well."

"You can do that now then, he does not need to be here for this conversation." Albus said pleasantly.

"Oh, I don't think so, old man," Hecate whirled on him. "He's staying for this one. At least that way I will know if you leave anything out. Besides, we'll be wiping his memories in the end anyway."

He sagged even more in his chair. "Very well."

Hecate conjured two more chairs around the desk and sat herself down. I followed, thoroughly enjoying the goddess of magic put the 100 something old man in his place.

"Let's start with why you have a dead horcrux on your desk," Hecate said firmly. She was starting to sound like McGonagall. "And why you thought that since it was a Hallow, you could put it on your finger."

I looked at the man in horror. "What the heck man?" I looked at the ring more closely and sure enough, there was the symbol on the stone. "Is that Voldemort's?"

Hecate sat back and smiled. "Ah, of course, why hadn't I thought of that?"

"You're welcome." I said happily, enjoying the defeated look on Albus' face as Snape was also gapping at him in horror.

"That explains what Thanatos brought up at the Olympian Council just this last time."

Suddenly something clicked in my brain and reminded me of what Harry had said. 'I am marked by death for death.'

"Hecate, is Harry's scar a mark that Thanatos uses for something?" I asked.

She looked at me with wide eyes. There was a very long pause. "You and I will figure this out while you are at camp this summer, that is a path that we can explore extensively."

I sat back, again, very pleased with myself. "You're welcome."

"Stop saying that."

"Care to enlighten me?" Albus asked, looking between us in confusion.

"No, I don't think we will," Hecate said immediately. "Now let's get to why you are telling Harry why he needs to be at his aunt's place when you know that they are treating him far from right."

"His mother's death—"

"Oh, don't give me that, our last conversation had ended with the conclusion that was not actually what was going on with the protection from his mother." She interrupted. "Why have you told Harry he needs to be at the Dursleys for them to abuse him all his life?"

"They are abusing him?" Snape exclaimed. He turned on Albus angrily. "You told me he was being well taken care of!"

"It's not often I need to get involved in my world," Hecate said, pinching the bridge of her nose. "But between you, Grindelwald, Tom Riddle, and Morgana, I've had my work cut out for me. You will explain. Now."

The explanation he gave was so stupid I will only say this of it: he didn't want him to grow up spoiled or arrogant like his father.

"You thought that putting him with people who could turn him into an obscruial would fix that?" Hecate demanded. "They were intent on beating the magic out of him!"

"Albus!" Snape exclaimed. "Lily's son?"

"Oh, now he's Lily's son?" I scoffed. "Not Potter's? Only when he's threatened with his life is he now Lily's son? You hypocrite."

Snape's face turned dark. "Why, you—"

"No," I stopped him. "You have no right to heap James' sins on Harry. I observed your class this last year remember? You are not fit to teach here. Poor Longbottom is terrified of you. He could do very well in your class considering his love for herbology but you have stopped any interest in him growing and the world will be all the lesser for it. Harry might have developed his mother's skill had you let him."

"How do you know so much?"

"I have been keeping a very close eye on this war," Hecate said calmly. "He is my champion, I have updated him on everything."

I then decided to ignore the man to my right. Turning to Albus, I said, "Is there anything else you are not telling us?"

"No." He said.

I did not trust him so I narrowed my eyes at him. With good reason too, because Snape would have none of it.

"Yes," he said. "You made me promise to kill you instead of Draco Malfoy."

Hecate let that sit a moment to two. "Is this because you hold the Elder Wand?"

Albus' silence was all the answer she needed. She stood up and looked down her nose at him. "If you do this again, you will have more issues than having only a year or two left to live because of your foolish ambition. Believe me, you will wish for death."

"I am sorry." He said, eyes cast down at the desk in front of him.

"I will see you at our annual meeting before school. Make sure that McGonagall will be there as well since you have decided to let her in on this," she said. "At least she will keep you in line." She then turned to me. "You go on back home, you need to get to bed soon if you don't want to be sleeping in and the twins to wake you up. They have been waiting for that for a long time. I will take care of Snape's memories."

I nodded, ignoring the sudden feeling of fear that rose up at her words about the twins. Deciding that leaving Hogwarts to vapor travel would take too much time, I decided to do it right then. Even as I climbed into bed with the whole house asleep, I knew that I would be facing a violent awakening in the morning.
