Chapter 19: Family Issues
Previously:
"Dolores Umbridge." I growled. It was low but it echoed and caused fighting to stop around us. I dug into my pocket to pull out a familiar pen. "I swear by Lady Magic and the river Styx, you will die tonight."
I twisted my ring and uncapped Riptide with one hand. I heard gasps as a trident appeared in one hand and a three foot bronze sword in the other.
Looking back, I may have over reacted. But what I did accomplished a few things at once.
One; it scared the Hades out of the Death Eaters.
"Bloody Hell, what is going on?"
That was the only thing anybody from the Death Eater's side said. They were all too busy looking at me with horrified stares. Except for Bellatrix for some strange reason. She looked like she finally got something good to play with. It did not creep me out at all.
No, seriously, it didn't creep me out. I was too focused on Umbridge to think about the look Bellatrix was giving me.
The lady in pink didn't look so well put together as she used to. She was missing her pink cardigan and her hair looked a little frizzy. Her eyes were wide and crazy and her hands shook as she smiled with every dark curse she sent my way.
But once my sword and trident was out, the smile disappeared.
"Who are you?" She asked on behalf of everyone there.
"My name is Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon, Savior of Olympus, Champion of Hecate and your death." I dropped my glamour, looking her dead in the eye.
Two; it outed me to the campers.
"Percy?"
"It was him the whole time?"
"How did we not see that? It's so obvious!"
Nobody had time to question me as Umbridge sent a few curses rapidly in my direction. And just like that all the fighting started again.
Riptide easily blocked the spells except for one. That one I caught on the end of my trident. I held it for a second, letting it gain more power before launching it straight back at her.
It hit her on her left thigh. The snapping sound could be heard where I was almost on the other side of the dais. Her painfull yell was heard by everyone in the room.
The fighting had stopped once more. But it wasn't because Umbridge was on the ground in pain and my sword was at her neck while my trident was at her stomach.
"SIRIUS!" That was Harry, running as fast as he could towards the veil. "SIRIUS!"
Bellatrix let out a cackle that sounded too gleeful for her to be innocent of whatever happened to Sirius. I hadn't even noticed when Dumbledore, Penny, and the Order had gotten here. I did notice Dumbledore follow Bellatrix out, however.
I quickly looked for Umbridge's wand on the floor where she dropped it and stepped on it, snapping it into three uneven pieces.
Only then did I look up to see Sirius fading slowly behind the veil, Remus holding Harry back and Bellatrix disappearing through a door.
Over Harry's shouts, I tried getting ahold of Nico's attention. "Nico!"
"HE—IS—NOT—DEAD!"
"Nico—HARRY SHUT UP!"
He stopped yelling.
"Thank you." I sighed, glancing at the wimpy pink toad at my feet. Deciding she deserved it, I stuck my trident in her one good leg. I could tell I made it through bone as she screamed again. "Harry, if you would calm down for one second, everything is going to be just fine. Now—" I turned to Nico "—would you be so kind as to go through the Veil of Death to fetch Sirius for us?"
His expression became guarded. "Why would I risk my life to do that?"
I glared at him and he flinched.
"Because you wont be risking your life, son of Hades." Hecate was now seen descending the steps to the dais where everyone was. "Through that Veil is but an in between realm. If you do not hurry, you will miss him as he goes on."
He sighed and marched through the archway, fading quickly as he followed Sirius. Not even two seconds later, Nico reappeared through the arch, dragging a dazed looking Sirius Black. He left him coughing at the entry way, stalking back to where he left a draining Death Eater.
Harry and Remus rushed to his side, each of them checking the man over for any wounds.
"Oi, give me some space!" Sirius exclaimed, sounding very relieved. "I just died, you know."
"Percy?" Grover said, hesitantly walking up to me as I stood over Umbridge.
I gripped my trident tighter and shifted Riptide in my hands. I guess I twisted the trident somewhat because Umbridge let out a whimper of pain. "Hey, Grover."
"Mr. Weasley, it seems you were right about Mr. Pettigrew." The new voice was very welcome to me as it served as a wonderful distraction to the consequences of what I did. In other words: the campers.
"Indeed Madam Bones." I replied, turning away from the disguised saytr in front of me.
The Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement was coming down the stairs from the entrance from the spinning room. She looked almost angry as she stared at the man wrapped in ropes at the feet of Penny.
My girlfriend seemed a little too proud of herself as she held out the man's wand and the ropes tied around him. "Madam Bones, I think you'll find that Sirius Black is innocent after a brief conversation with Pettigrew and will be willing to sign these papers?"
I love that girl.
She only had a few hours to whip that up after I told her about my meeting Madam Bones in my office.
"Indeed so, Miss Clearwater." She smiled and knelt before the rat man and began the conversation right then.
"Where is the prophecy, Harry?" I asked before yanking the trident out of Umbridge and putting Riptide away. The resounding scream stalled Harry from answering right away but it was music to my ears.
"It smashed just before Dumbledore came." He replied. "Sorry, professor."
"What on earth do you need to be sorry for?" I asked. "I know what it said. All that matters is that Voldemort didn't get it. Good job, Harry." Bending down to Umbridge's ear, I whispered, "Bet you regret messing with my family, don't you?"
She whimpered and curled in on herself some more.
Kingsley, Mad Eye, Tonks and a few aurors that Madam Bones brought in with her were helping her take care of the Death Eaters that hadn't run away. So I decided that I could take care of Umbridge right then.
"Lady Hecate, permission to throw the trash away?" I gestures toward the arch way.
Hecate's mouth twitched. "Come now Percy, you don't need to call me that," she said. "But yes, by all means. The fates decreed someone die tonight and since you decided it wasn't going to be Mr Black, might as well. You did swear by me and the River Styx."
Trying to cause as much pain as possible, I grabbed the pink monstrosity by the hair and dragged her toward the Veil. I was deaf to her screams of pain and begging for mercy. She had caused too much pain to my family—which included Harry—that she could pay for alive. Without any hesitation, I threw her as hard as I could through the Veil and looked on in satisfaction.
Turning around, I realized I was still holding the trident and willed it back to its ring form. Doing everything I could to avoid any interaction with the campers just yet, I turned to Dumbledore who just got back in the room from wherever he'd gone a few minutes ago. "Albus, I must insist Harry be told everything."
He sighed. "Yes, my confrontation with Voldemort just now and the rest of the events today have helped me realize that to be true." He turned to Harry, Sirius, and Remus who were no longer by the Veil. They were now by the stairs to the top. "If I could ask that you meet me at my office in an hour so that I can explain a few things?"
"It's about bloody time," Harry said with a smile. "Voldemort was here?"
"Yes, I followed Bellatrix into the atrium and there we were met by the Dark Lord himself." Dumbledore said. "The Minister showed up just as he was escaping. So now the wizarding world knows that we have been speaking the truth. And it seems you have been doing excellent in your Occlumency lessons."
"Good." Sirius said.
"No thanks to Snape," Harry grumbled.
"Go on and get everyone to the hospital wing at Hogwarts, Remus," Dumbledore said. "I will be there shortly so we can have our conversation. I will stay to make sure we did not miss anything."
As Remus and Sirius were gathering everyone and leading them out of the Department of Mysteries, Dumbledore turned to me and Penny. "It seems you two were correct," he said sadly. "Forgive me for not giving this more thought."
"I forgive you," I said easily. "Just help me figure out what to do about the campers."
"You would have needed to face them eventually Percy." Dumbledore said with a small twinkle in his eye. He said no more and turned away to speak with Madam Bones.
I groaned in exasperation and Penny laughed.

In the last few days of school, everything was much more peaceful than before. Hermione and Ron had to spend some days in the hospital wing due to the injuries they suffered at the Ministry but they were on the mend. Harry now knew what the prophecy means and what Dumbledore thought he was doing.
Madam Pomphrey insisted the campers spend at least a day there as well since she couldn't believe that they'd all gotten away with out any major injuries. This frustrated Nico and Clarisse to no end but it gave me some time to figure out what I was going to say to them.
Only problem is that it wasn't enough time. Still, Penny dragged me to the hospital wing to have the conversation in a slightly private space. She pushed me past the doors, said, "Good luck, I'll be making sure no one comes in." Then she locked the doors behind me.
I signed in resignation, seeing the campers all look to see who came in.
"Percy," Jason said in amazement. "I still can't believe it was you the whole time."
"Yeah," I agreed quietly. "I thought I blew it loads of times."
"Thinking back, I don't know how I didn't think it was you when you pulled me aside that one time." Leo said.
I cleared my throat. "It worked, didn't it?" I asked. "And I was right. You kicked butt today, Leo."
Everyone was quiet after Leo's soft, "Thanks."
Then:
"I'm so sorry, Percy."
"Please forgive us."
"I don't know what happened but it won't happen again."
"You can't promise that, Thalia." I said sadly, looking over at her.
"Like Hades, I can't." She said defiantly. She stood from her seat at the edge of her hospital bed and walked over. "Percy, we all love you. We want to make sure you're safe at home again."
There was a murmur of agreement around the room.
I looked down at my feet. "I am home." I muttered. It was soft but the whole room heard me.
Hazel, Grover, and Piper burst into tears while Jason and Frank had to look away. Clarisse was staring down at her bed sheets with fisted hands. The Stolls were just looking sadly at the floor. Nico and Thalia were the ones that were staring at me defiantly.
"Percy, you belong at camp, we need you at camp." Piper pleaded. I don't think she realized she put a little charmspeak into that but it reminded me of something.
"Piper, if you try charmspeaking me again, you will never hear from me again." I growled.
She paled.
"Can you blame her?" Thalia demanded.
I glared at her, causing her to flinch. "None of you are giving a very convincing argument to bring me back to camp." I said. "So you all can go back to camp, and leave me alone. You know where I am if another prophesy decides it needs me to save the world again."
With that, I walked out of the hospital wing and headed for the lake. I needed some time to cool off.

"What just happened?" Travis said, as if trying to process something
"He did not feel heard," a soft voice said from the door.
The campers looked over to see Penny and Luna at the doors.
"I heard everything," Penny said. "Luna's right, you didn't listen."
"We listened!" Thalia protested.
"No," Penny said with a sad smile. "What you did was tell him what you wanted him to do and tried manipulating him into doing it." She sent a soft glare Piper's way who looked away guiltily.
"We just keep pushing him away!" Hazel buried her head in her hands.
"It's alright, Hazel." Frank pulled her so her head was on his shoulder. He sent Penny and Luna a pleading look. "Is there something you can do?"
"Yeah, can't you convince him to come home with us?" Leo piped up.
"This place isn't where he belongs," Piper said.
Penny glared at them. "You don't get it, do you?" She laughed in disbelief. "He feels like he belongs here more than there because of how you are treating him."
"That wasn't us! That was a spell of some kind!" Jason protested. "We still haven't figured out how—"
"Did you hear me speak in the past tense?" Penny demanded. Her hands were on her hips now and she wasn't just glaring at them, she was glowering. She must have learned a few things from Percy because it was downright scary. "I'm talking about right now! Had you guys been paying attention, you would see that he has found another home here! He doesn't want to leave the family he's made here! You lot aren't the only ones that love him!"
Penny stopped talking briefly, huffing with the energy it took to yell at the group of demigods. She was starting to see why Percy was so scared of talking to them.
Hazel started sobbing and Grover bleated sadly. He was munching sorrowfully on the bed sheets.
"I know you miss him," Penny said now, more gently. "But think about the people he'd be leaving behind if you took him away from m—us." Now Penny was tearing up, just thinking about someone taking him from her. Suddenly she couldn't handle talking to them any more. "I'm sorry, I need to go."
The campers watched her leave in shock.
"Surely we can work something out so we all can spend time with him." Frank said.
"Why does this feel like a custody battle?" Connor muttered.
Luna smiled dreamily. "Death comes to the Half-Blood hidden. No longer reins the one he hates the most. All will see and mourn, their brother in arms no more."
"What was that?" Clarisse growled.
Luna just continued smiling. "What was what?"
"That sounded like a prophecy!" Grover wailed.
"What did I say?" Luna asked curiously.
Nico spoke up for them, having been the only one to memorize it, and recited it for her.
"Oh," she blinked. "Well, it's obvious isn't it?"
There was a general shaking of heads.
"Percy was the half-blood hidden. He is no longer hidden," she said. "He hated pretending to be a different person and you are all sad he won't come home with you."
There was no response to that.
"Well, I'd best be off," she said. "I need to start packing and putting up notices for my missing things." She then turned and skipped off.
"She's a seer," Nico realized out loud.
"What are we going to do?" Travis asked the group.
"We're going to do everything we can to convince him he needs to come home." Thalia said determined.
"No." Grover said, standing up. "I don't care what you say, but I think I agree with Penny and Luna. He deserves to stay with the happiness he's made for himself. I'm going to support him in that even if it means I'm going to miss him terribly." He then followed Luna out.
Leo suddenly shot up and ran out, "Wait, Grover, me too!"
Nico, the Stolls, Frank, and Hazel followed without a word. Leaving Thalia, Clarisse, Piper, and Jason glaring at their backs.
