When You Talk To Da Po-Pos

Izzy's POV

BEE-DOO BEE-DOO BEE-DOO!

The lovely resounding noise of the all-too-familiar Po-Pos. How nice. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the police, that would just be stupid to go against the very people that have been trained to protect you, but I had a feeling that I wouldn't be very well received by them at the moment.

I looked over at Jake, who was now standing up and walking around like he wasn't just dying a few minutes ago. His head sat tall among the crowd with his 6'2" stature, and he seemed to crane his neck in different directions, scanning the crowd with celerity, looking for something. My eyes found Audrie and Karmen, both repeating the same actions as Jake while talking earnestly, repeatedly looking at Audrie's hands, at me, around the crowd, and back at each other.

With the police in hearing distance, people began coming out of hiding from the bleachers, others handed out possessions, and some went to greet the police. I just stood in place, pondering what had taken place.

Audrie was like me. I wasn't as alone as I thought. But how could I tell her that she wasn't alone? To Audrie, I was just the person that dismissed two armed girls with some short words, not someone who could shoot fire from my hands. Only Blue knew that. And those two guys I taped up earlier. Speaking of which...

I turned towards the home bleachers and marched purposefully towards the sound booth. I was about to climb the steps up the bleachers when a male voice interrupted me.

"Ma'am, I need to ask you a few questions,"

I swirled around on my heels, coming to face a police officer in tan getup.

"Sir, I hate to be rude, but there are two guys trapped in the building up there, could you ask me the questions while I go get them?"

Great start Izz, good job.

"I think some we can leave that to the police ma'am, besides, andI would prefer to have your undivided attention," He replied whilst waving his hand to some idle officers.

The officers walked toward him, and he started giving them instructions.

"There are two citizens trapped in the soundbooth, go retrieve them, please."

They nodded, and as they went up the stairs, I yelled after them,

"They are two of the gangsters you've been informed about, and I think you'll find they're a bit...bound up at the moment."

The officers stared at me strangely from under their shades, then proceeded up the steps. I turned back to the officer that was questioning me.

"Did you let two of the suspects escape?"

Oh great.

"No sir, you see, I let those two girls leave because they were being forced to do this against their will."

"Do you have any proof of this, ma'am?"

Oh shizzle.

"I'm sorry officer, I have no viable proof, I just knew."

I could tell his was questioning me in his mind while jotting down notes. I was probably a suspect now.

"I saw it in their eyes," I spoke without a second thought.

He looked up at me, intrigued.

"I've always believed in my mind that the eyes are the gateways to the soul, and in those girls' eyes I saw hurting, pain, fear, and force. It's hard to believe or even explain, but that's the truth, and I'm not one to lie."

He still didn't completely believe me.

"Great, now he thinks I'm crazy," I thought, mentally rolling my eyes.

"I have another question ma'am," he continued, "Can you confirm that you were seen running off with one of the suspects?"

Cheese and rice, someone was clearly not happy with me. There always has to be that ungrateful person. C'mon, I just helped save your butt, can you please get off mine?

"Yes sir,"

"Can you explain your actions, ma'am?"

"Well first off, if I hadn't ran, I would've gotten shot. Secondly, after I...talked to him, he turned around and shot one of his own men, so it could've easily been assumed that he sorta switched sides..."

I had to admit, running off with him kinda looked bad, especially since I couldn't say WHY he shot and ran in the first place. Even I didn't fully understand his drastic actions myself.

The officer looked at me through his shades in an interrogative stance, so I stared back. The background noise of crunching footsteps on grass became increasingly louder as I heard three pairs of feet running towards us. I broke my gaze and looked at Audrie, Jake, and Karmen.

"Uhm, hello officer," Karmen greeted between light pants.

The three of them looked at me.

Karmen breathed in and spoke, "We've been looking for our friend and we can't find her, and we were wondering, ya know, since you weren't stuck on the field the whole time, that you might've seen her? She has kinda dark blonde hair and-."

"Oh, you mean Izzy?"

"Yes! Yes! Yes! You know her?! Have you seen her?! Where is she?!"

"Last I saw her she was by the porta-potties," I stated.

Technically that was true.

"Oh thank you so much! Thank you!" Karmen thanked with a bright face. She and the other two turned towards the the direction of the toilets, and ran off.

"Ma'am-"

"If you would excuse me officer, I also seemed to have misplaced my friend, and should probably find him," I said as politely as I could. I started walking.

"Oh, you mean the guy with the blue hair? I think he's about to be escorted to the police department, he kept asking for you," The police officer replied.

I heard a smug smile in his voice. Me calling him my "friend" definitely made me a suspect. How lovely.

"Well then, I'll just catch him before he leaves," I winced.

I just admitted it. Dang it.

"No need ma'am, we'll be escorting you to the station as well," he said waving his hand to some other officers.

The officers started toward me, so I had to think fast. I could go with them quietly, then it wouldn't get any worse, but then my friends would freak out when they couldn't find Izzy. Then they wouldn't like this form of me very much for lying to them. But if I escaped, I would not look like a bundle of sunshine and rainbows in the eyes of the law. If I went with the cops then I could possibly find out more about Blue. I basically had to choose whether I wanted to pursue something, or come back to it another time. Problem was, I didn't even know if there would be a next time.

I laughed audibly.

I could try a little bit of both. Who said life's choices had to be constrained to two rigid options anyways? Not me. I liked making a third option.
