Chapter 3: UA
Izuku was ready for his day. His first day at UA. He put in his uniform and began heading out.
“Bye Izuku!” Inko shouted out.
“Bye.” He responded. He wasn’t really paying attention. He had his mind on one thing. Meeting the only person that’s ever been nice to him.
Ochako Uraraka. Izuku walked to UA alone. Slowly, but rather fast at the same time.
Soon enough he arrived at the front doors. He looked inside to see a large labyrinth of halls and doors.
He ran around for five minutes before finding the door to Class 1-A.
*Jeez. The principle is supposed to be smart! Why didn’t he put up any signs?* Izuku asked himself.
He sighed as he opened the door.
Time to prove everyone wrong.
He opened the door to see Bakugo and Iida arguing. He saw a few other kids talking in their own groups.
Izuku scanned the room.
*Where... is she?*
He felt a tap on his shoulder.
“Excuse me?” A girl behind him asked. He turned around to see who it was. That’s when his eyes widened. It was the brunette, Ochako Uraraka.
“Oh! You’re the boy from the entrance exam! I’m glad you could get in!” She said with a smile.
Izuku didn’t know how to respond to this. He was kinda shocked at least. It’s been a long time since he last had a decent conversation with someone.
The moment was ruined when he heard footsteps behind him. He turned to see a tall boy in glasses.
*You...*
The man bowed.
“My name is Tenya Iida. I’m truly sorry for what I said at the entrance exams.” He said.
Izuku smirked.
“Yeah well it’s too late now. Think before you speak. You have no clue what people are capable of. Especially me.” Izuku said.
“Look. I’m trying to apologize. I understand if you still dislike me for that reason, but I didn’t have the slightest clue of what you could do..” Iida said.
“Well, next time, get a clue. Listen to people. A hero can’t act on his own.” Izuku said walked away to find his seat.
He was definitely ticked off at Iida. Not only for looking down on him but ruining his conversation with Uraraka.
“Wait! You must be smart. You knew exactly what to do at the entrance exam! You must have known how to get in!” Iida said.
Now Izuku was mad. He wanted to become a hero, and yet he’s calling Izuku a cheater for figuring out a code? He. Was. Wrong.
“Look here. Call yourself whatever you like. Tenya? Iida? I don’t care. As long as it isn’t hero, cause you don’t have the slightest clue of what it’s like to be one. Don’t tell me I cheated my way in. I simply played hero better than you or anyone else out there.” Izuku said with a smile.
He turned and finally found his seat. Right behind Bakugo. Oh boy.
“Nerd, how did you get in?” He asked.
“Let’s just say simple use of a brain. Something you don’t have. Oh, and determination and strength. I don’t have to rely on hope or others.” Izuku said.
Bakugo looked back at him. Suddenly a tall man walked in wearing all black except for a white scarf and yellow goggles.
“Hello class. Good to see everyone here already.” He said. Everyone got into their seats and began giving their attention.
“My name is Shota Aizawa. I’ll be your Homeroom teacher. Honestly, let’s get straight to it. Today I’m going to see how powerful you and your quirks are. Go to the locker room and grab a gym uniform. Then meet me outside.” He said as he left.
*That was quick and to the point. I like him.* Izuku thought.
They all went to the locker rooms to get changed. As they were, a small midget began speaking.
“Hey, I know we just met, but be honest with me. Don’t the girls seem kinda hot?” He asked. It was Mineta Minoru.
“Well you wouldn’t be wrong, but I wouldn’t talk about that stuff.” A yellow haired kid said. Denki Kaminari.
Izuku was listening to the conversation. He didn’t like it at all. They wanted to be heroes when they’re talking about a woman’s body? Absolutely disrespectful. How did they even make it in?
“Not gonna lie. That black haired chick’s boobs are pretty big. Not to mention the brown haired—” Mineta began before being cut off by Izuku.
Izuku was holding him by the neck. He was fine for a bit until he started bringing up Uraraka. That’s when Izuku snapped. A red haired kid, Kirishima, and Kaminari stepped up to him.
“H-Hey! Put him down! It’s day one, we don’t need any fights!” Kaminari said.
“Why? He’s disrespecting women when he wants to be a hero. He shouldn’t be here.” Izuku said straight up. He was really annoyed.
“I understand that, but I don’t think he can breath..” Kirishima said.
Izuku looked to see Mineta struggling a lot. Izuku sighed. He dropped him face down into the floor.
“So far you’re all terrible. Why become heroes? You can’t even act like one.” Izuku said walking off.
Everyone stared at him as he left.
“Idiot. I told you not to talk about that!” Kaminari said. Everyone finished getting dressed and went outside where Aizawa waited for them.
“Welcome class. Today, we are doing a Quirk Apprehension Test. This will test you’re quirk and your overall abilities. I know I’ve already explained this, but just in case you weren’t listening. Also, if you come last place, you’re expelled. Let’s see...” Aizawa said looking at a piece of paper.
Everyone was kinda shook about being expelled.
“Bakugo. Come up here and throw the ball as far as you can, and you can use your quirk.” Aizawa said.
Bakugo grinned at that. He walked up and picked up the ball. He then set off a large explosion with a throw.
The ball went flying. Aizawa looked at a small devise. It said 705.2 meters.
“WHAT THE HELL!?” Everyone exclaimed.
“See? Your quirks will help you a lot, so learn to use them.” Aizawa said.
That’s when he turned to Izuku.
“Midoriya? That’s your name, right?” He asked. Izuku nodded.
“You don’t have a quirk yet you’re here over all others. From my point of view, if I was God handing out quirks, I’d give you one. However, being quirkless hasn’t effected your view on becoming a hero, and that’s good. A hero should have an unbreakable goal.” Aizawa said.
Izuku smiled a little. Someone that praised him for what he’s done. He didn’t look down on him, but now looked up to him in some way. That’s exactly what Izuku wanted. He started hearing whispers.
“He’s quirkless?”
“No way!”
“How did he get in?”
“You wanna know how I got in?” Izuku asked. Everyone looked at him.
“I got in by being a hero! Most of you guys didn’t even look back when someone called for help! I did! Not only that, I spent months training! Months of going through hell and back! I felt like I would die but I never gave in! Now some of you think you can just waltz in here with a quirk thinking you’ll become a hero!? Well sorry to say this, but even without a quirk, I’m better than you!” Izuku shouted. That last sentence got him some annoyed stares.
“Alright, settle down. Midoriya. You’re next.” Aizawa said.
Izuku walked up and picked up the ball. He was angry already. From Mineta to this. He had to give a lecture to a bunch of kids his age.
He gripped the ball and threw it as hard as possible. It landed as the distance appeared on Aizawa small devise. It was 66.4 meters.
“Well. It’s nothing too impressive, but it’ll be better than most others.” Izuku said to himself.
As he suspected, he came in around the halfway mark for the ball throw.
It came to the long jump. He landed pretty far, almost across the sand box.
For the 50-meter dash, he was against Toru Hagakure, the Invisible Girl. Aizawa started it and he took off.
He finished it in 5.56 seconds. Toru finished it in 7.03 seconds.
Next was grip strength, endurance, sit ups, sidesteps, and a bunch of other stuff. Izuku did decently well on them.
He watched as others used their quirks to bounce, propel, and boost themselves through the trainings. Izuku gritted his teeth in anger.
They all use their quirks thinking it’s always gonna be okay. One of these days they’re gonna face someone like Aizawa and be quirkless in front of someone like me. They’ll see at some point.
Izuku continued to do all the exercises with pure strength and determination. He had to show them up.
Soon enough, they all finished as Aizawa put up a score board. In first, was Bakugo. Not a surprise to Izuku.
He scanned the leader board to see that he got 9th place. Not bad for not having a quirk.
In 16th place was Mineta, while 20th, 19th, and 18th, in that order, was Toru, Jiro, and Kaminari.
“Well, that’s your guys’ scores. Oh, and being expelled was a joke. It was to make you all go as hard as possible.” Aizawa said.
Everyone groaned at that. He dismissed everyone to get dressed and leave for the day.
As they were walking back, Izuku heard a conversation behind him. It was Kaminari and Jiro.
“How the hell did I lose to a quirkless?” Kaminari asked.
“Shhh! Keep your voice down. He might here you idiot.” Jiro said.
“I got a better score because you rely on your quirk. That’s the mistake that you made. See, I don’t have a quirk as you would know. I don’t have to rely on anything but my own strength and intellect. Well, unlike you, I can rely on my intellect.” Izuku said.
He turned back around and began walking.
“Oh, and learn to keep your voice down. It helps to not attract attention.” Izuku said.
He went and got dressed quickly. As left the building, heard someone call his name.
“DEKU!” Bakugo shouted. Izuku turned to see Bakugo run toward him.
“It’s Izuku Midoriya, but yes?” He asked.
“How did you get in?” Bakugo asked.
“I don’t understand.” Izuku responded.
“How did you get into UA!?” Bakugo asked.
“That’s not what I don’t understand. I don't understand why I have to explain it again. I already told you this earlier. I am just better. Without my quirk, I bet I scored more points than almost anyone else at that entrance exam. Why? Because my mind wasn’t on points. It was on you, All Might, my mom, my peers, EVERYONE! Did I look to it for strength? No. It was me imagining you seeing me make it into UA! The look on your face after looking down on me for years just to see me rise above. It’s satisfying.” Izuku finished. Bakugo looked at him with his eyes widened.
“Oh, an another thing. A hero doesn’t look down on people. Be sure to tell that to our classmates.” Izuku said.
Bakugo stood there for a second before grunting and walking past Izuku.
*Pathetic Idiot. Won’t pick on me now that I’ve proved him wrong.*
“Deku?” A girl asked. Izuku turned to see Uraraka.
“Uh, that’s not my name.” Izuku said.
“Oh! Sorry! I thought I heard Bakugo call you that.” She said with slight embarrassment.
“It’s fine. He insults me with it.” Izuku said.
“Oh. I thought it meant ‘You can do it!’” She responded.
Izuku thought for a moment as the two began walking.
*Deku... it’s got a nice ring to it now.*
Izuku walked back to his apartment and to his room. He was happy with how the day turned out. He lifted a few weights before going to bed.
He completed his first task, prove that a quirkless like him could get into UA. Now, he had to prove to everyone that wronged him that he could become a hero..
