Chapter 4: Another Day, Another World
Penn found himself walking along with his friends on the way to The Odyssey, where people knew that that cinema was long gone when actually, it hires a bunch of teenagers to try and save the world in every dimensions unheard of.
The orange-haired teen tried to listen to his big friend's story about a meatloaf, but it just went through from his left ear to the right. He kept thinking back to the moment when you had clutched his arm and so dangerously close to him. It made his cheeks flush a lovely red. He just wished you hadn't seen that.
"Penn?" Sashi asked him. He looked at her curiously. "Are you okay? You seemed off."
Penn had always appreciated Sashi's companionship. He knows that she's always trying her best to socialize with him and Boone, even though she could be a little harsh sometimes. "I'm fine," Penn answered. "Just thinking of something, that's all."
"Some thing, or someone?" Boone laughed at his own wit. "I'm telling you, Penn, with the way you're looking at Y/N at art class is out of this world. You couldn't take your eyes off her-"
"Okay!" Penn exclaimed in a panic. His face was almost the same shade of his hair now, and he was trying to get his breathing back to normal. "Stop. And I'm not thinking about Y/N, Boone."
Sashi raised an eyebrow. "Or maybe, you're thinking about the girl in the other dimension?"
"Did she actually tell us her name? I don't remember," Boone faced his friend.
"Yeah, let's just call her 'No Name' until she actually tell us. As if she would." She scoffed as she crossed her arms.
"As if you would even let her near you."Penn rolled his eyes before they all turned left and now they could see the theatre. But his eyes landed on someone who wore a smile.
"Hi Penn, Sashi, Boone!" You beamed.
"Hi," "Hello," "Yellow," They all said back.
"Where are you heading to?" Sashi asked you.
Your smile went wider. "Oh, I was just going to this newly-opened bakery. Wanna come with? My treat."
"Yes!" Boone answered immediately. Sashi subtly glared at her big friend who knows that they are actually in a hurry because they have to go to work. But the word 'treat' is one of her rare weaknesses.
You looked up at Penn who was actually busy staring at you. You fought the blush that was coming on your cheeks. "Penn? You want to go? I actually want to repay you from earlier." Your eyes seemed to sparkle. Oh, your eyes that he could swim in. He could see stars in those lovely shades.
He suddenly felt a harsh elbow on his side. "Ow!" He whined at Sashi who was giving him a cold stare. He turned to you, who was patiently waiting an answer with a hopeful look on your face. "Of course. We'd love to join you."
"Okay. Let's go!" You declared, consciously taking Sashi and Penn's arms and sandwiched between them. Boone wanted to hook his own arm around Sashi, but she snarled at him so he had no choice but to go around and went for Penn instead. He was frozen like ice, fully-knowing that he was holding arms with you.
The four of you eventually stepped inside the bakery, where it immediately greeted you with a warm and sweet smell of cinnamon.
"Good afternoon!" A short woman, not shorter than Sashi, greeted. She had short, raven hair, and naturally narrowed eyes, giving you a hint that maybe she's Asian. "Welcome to our bakery. What can I get you?"
"Did you just bake something with cinnamon in it? That one please." Boone ordered. You just giggled at him that was clearly trying to take advantage of your treat right now.
"What about you, Sash?" You asked her.
"Can I have the strawberry croissant, please?"
"Sure! What about you, mister?" The woman nodded to Penn, who was busy choosing sweets himself.
You already ordered yours, so you waited for his.
"I'll just have a muffin, thanks."
"Okay," she inputted it on the register. "Anything else?"
"That's all, thank you." You said, giving her the right amount. Not long after, she gave you different bags for the bread you all had ordered.
All of a sudden, your watch had beeped an alarm indicating that you were already running late on your work. "Oh, I have to go. See you guys tomorrow!" You waved, before sprinting outside the shop and quickly headed towards the fish sticks shop where Phil was waiting.
"I'm here!" You announced when you barged inside. You already saw Rippen's impatient expression and Larry's smiling face.
"You're late for the first time," your co-worker with spiky hair told you, making you smile bashfully. "Did something come up at school?"
Larry laughed. "Yeah, was Rippen's activity that hard that it made your day worse?"
"Not at all. Actually I went to the bakery that just opened with Penn, Sashi, and Boone. Here," you threw the paper bag at Rippen. "Help yourselves. I didn't know which one's your favorite so I kind of picked whatever's available."
"Ooh, a macaron!" Larry exclaimed, reaching for the green-colored meringue-based dessert.
Rippen rolled his eyes at his co-worker's behaviour but nonetheless, he picked out a chocolate chip cookie.
You chuckled, turning to your boss. "What about you, Phil?"
"Not hungry. You can finish eating later. Time for work."
You were so weirded out, yet amazed by Phil's lack of emotion and vocabulary. It was like he was made to talk like 1-2 syllable at a time. But it makes you proud of yourself whenever you manage to make him smile, even just a little bit.
Larry delicately placed the box of sweets at one of the counters of the shop and hopped in with the two of you on the platform. Phil pulled down the lever and the feeling of being lifted up appeared again, pulling you inside the dimension.

Penn opened his eyes and it was just like Phyllis had said, "Pioneer World". It reminded him a bit of Cowboy-Dinosaur and he suddenly missed going there.
He asked his sidekick for the specs.
"I'm not your sidekick," Sashi growled, but she still pressed a button on her glasses, revealing a hologram of information. "Apparently today is the annual gathering to celebrate the discovery of this town. Just prevent the villains from ruining the party, because obviously, this occasion is important to the people."
And important it was as Penn watched the town scurried after themselves, trying to perfectly set up the party. The balloons and banners were already up, the food are all prepared, and the guests are classically dressed, considering their choice of wardrobe; from their top hats and petticoats.
The trio cautiously entered the hall, where all the people were. Most people were already dancing, and some are by the banquet table. They all decided to split up until they could spot one of the nemeses, then they could finally make a move.
"Yeehaw! Saddle up and find your partners because y'aller gonna dance 'til midnight!" And on cue, the people gathered around the dancefloor, with the music consisted of their makeshift instruments.
Penn found himself amused at the people having fun, that he failed to notice a lady approaching him.
"Hello, kind stranger."
He took in her appearance. She wore this lengthy dress that almost reached the floor. The color was lifeless; beige and gray, but it actually complements the color of her eyes, and the way it was full of soul. The only downside though, was the handkerchief that was covering the bottom half of her face.
"Hello, madam." Penn almost stuttered.
"What brings you here?"
He watched the way the cloth on her face moves, indicating that she was indeed talking. He replied, "Oh, heard there was a gathering goin' on, and figured I'd join."
"Well, let's join right now. You wanna dance with me?"
Whoever this woman is, it sure caught Penn in a trance. He wordlessly nodded, but just as they thought they were getting themselves a fun dance, the maestro of the band just smugly switched the music from an upbeat to a more slower tempo.
But they still went with flow and had their hands around wrapped around each other. They were surrounded by other people dancing, but it seemed like they were the only people in the room. Their gazes were focused on each other, slightly studying their features.
She subtly shook her head at herself. 'Focus on the mission, Y/N. Just keep him distracted.'
But she couldn't help it. His blue eyes were captivating and she couldn't help but be familiar with it. It's like she's seen those bright colored eyes anywhere, she just couldn't figure it out. She was patiently waiting for her teammates to just randomly appear out of nowhere but it seemed like they're taking their time too much.
She decided to look around whilst trying not to be obvious in front of her dancing partner. She got to admit, she couldn't believe that she could dance like this without ever tripping and stepping on his shoe.
She finally noticed movement on her right, which she immediately looked at. Penn, who was looking at her the whole time, saw her change in expressions based on her eyes, so he decided to take a look at it himself. But before he could turn his head, Y/N grabbed his face and made him face her. "What's your name, stranger?" She asked. Her tone was full of relief when she noticed that he hadn't seen Rippen and Larry sneaking at the back maybe to turn off the lights and kidnap the mayor of the town. She just guessed. "I might've seen you around these parts so your name must be well-known."
"Oh, I'm new here."
"Really?" She asked, a smile coming on her face, even though he couldn't see it. "Well, I could show you around here, if you want. Where are your friends?"
"They're around-" Penn paused, seeing that his friends weren't actually around the premises like they planned. "Wait, where are they?" He went to let go of her waist, but she reached out for his arm and tightened her grip.
Suddenly, the lights went out, and she took that opportunity to hold both of the hero's arms behind him, making him wince. She quickly used the ribbon that was tied around her hair and wrapped it around Penn's wrist. It was a little difficult with her long dress, but Y/N managed to kick him behind the knees, making him kneel down on the ground.
The townspeople quickly escaped the halls and headed outside, accompanied with their screams of panic and confusedness. With the moon from the windows as her only source of light, she managed to get out of the hall as well and caught up with Rippen, who was carrying the mayor, and Larry who had a ton of dynamites in his arms. The three of them went to the mayor's office, where the second they arrived, Rippen had placed the mayor on a chair and Y/N tied him to it. Larry placed the dynamites besides the chair as Rippen began to interrogate the mayor.
You really did not what the motive is. You were just told to act as a distraction and you did your part. Now, you just have to watch in silence, but your guard is still up.
Meanwhile, Sashi, Penn, and Boone were writhing against the ropes their wrists were tied to.
"So stupid," Penn muttered, not really trying to break out. He was too drained and defeated to even move.
"Tell me about it," Sashi said, groaning every once in a while. She couldn't ever seem to get the tightly tied rope around her. "This is the stupidest mission we've ever been to-"
"I'm not talking about the mission, Sash. I'm talking about me!" Penn retaliated. "I'm the one who lead us all to this. If it wasn't for me getting distracted, we wouldn't have been tied up and got stuck here. Now the mayor is in danger and it's all because of me! This is all my fault."
"Penn," Sashi sighed and stopped resisting for once. "This is not your fault, okay? This is all that 'No Name's fault. Blame her."
"I don't-"
"Guys," Boone cut off. "Let's just continue this conversation later." He showed his hands that weren't tied up anymore.
Penn and Sashi looked at him in both disbelief and amazement, but mostly the former. "H-how did you-"
"Well, you were talking so much that I didn't remember that I actually managed to grab a piece of cheese before No Name got us." Boone stood up and went to untie both of his friends. "I rubbed off the cheese on the rope and use what's left to lure the mouse and ate off my rope. Smart, right?"
The two were speechless, but they soon agreed that it was a smart move, and from Boone nonetheless.
