Chapter 3: The Next Day After That
Penn watched in horror as the villains won. That was the first time he let them won.
He and his friends were zapped back in the real world. They stood on the same platform, looking down in shame.
Phyllis blankly stared at them and decided to be blunt about it. She was disappointed. "First failure."
The words rang in Penn's head as part of his soul left his body. Failure. Failure. Failure.
Sashi groaned out loud. "It's because of that new girl! Blame her!" She caressed her broken arm.
"She was so scary." Boone expressed. "Maybe scarier than Sashi!"
The brown-eyed girl growled at him, earning a few whines. Boone accepted his defeat and begged for her forgiveness, saying that he was wrong a couple of times.
"Looks?" Phyllis asked.
Boone tried to describe you the best he could which he only came up with the color of your hair and your skin tone.
"I think we've seen her before, but I really couldn't tell with the mask," Sashi said, about to place a finger on her chin, if it weren't for the sudden ache on her arm. "Agh! Crap, I think my arm is broken. Curse that damn girl."
"Yikes," Boone commented. "Good thing it was your left hand though. You can still do things with your dominant hand, right?"
Phyllis didn't say anything, just turning off the machine and bidding her workers goodbye.

The moment you and the other two landed on the platform, they celebrated. They keep saying that it was their first win and it made you confused. "Wait, this was your first win?"
Larry nodded gleefully. "Yup! It's time to celebrate!" He danced with Rippen who kept pushing him away, feeling embarrassed, but he still wore a proud, timid smile.
You approached Phil, shaking your head at your co-workers' antics. "Hey."
"Yes?" Phil said glumly.
"Did you mess with my mask?" You raised an eyebrow suspiciously.
"Yes," he said, not afraid of being truthful. "I made you a mask because you said you would not want to be recognized, but there is a condition; you can't recognize the heroes as well."
You groaned. "Wow, that is so convenient and clever," you let out a sarcastic smile, making Phil smile at you.
"Rest up, you deserve it."
You nodded, placing your hands on your pockets. "Thanks. See you tomorrow!" You waved goodbye.

Penn found himself twisting and turning in his bed in the middle of the night. His mind couldn't seem to move on after what happened earlier. Yes, he still couldn't believe he lost for the first time, but what really kept him up at night was Rippen's new ally.
He wondered if he's seen her before, but with the mask in the way, it was impossible to recognize her.
Penn sighed, feeling hopeless. Even though they are different from each other- and they are supposed to be nemeses, his heart couldn't help but lurch at the sight of her. He remembered her features against the sunlight, he couldn't stop his emotions.
Is this what 'love at first sight' must've felt?
Meanwhile, you let yourself inside the house from work. You were hungry for dinner but your aunt was already napping and you didn't want to wake her up just to cook you something. Besides, you already bought the pastries you wanted to buy from the new bakery on your way home.
You draped a blanket over May's shoulders and headed towards the dining table where you placed the bag of desserts. You plopped into the seat after turning on the kitchen lights. You munched slowly and gently, tasting the sweetness. It tastes amazing, so you now declare that the new bakery is your favorite store to go to. You couldn't wait to show it to your friends when you walk there.
After drinking a healthy amount of water, you cleaned everything up and soon turned off the light. You walked up the stairs to your room and laid on your bed, letting your arms spread across the linen. "What a first day," you said to yourself.
You turned your head, and covered your face with pillows, sighing in contentment. You missed your bed the whole day. Besides your part-time job, this was the only thing you're looking forward to when in school.
You sighed again, looking at the window that was slightly ajar. The night was filled with stars tonight, so it was a beautiful sight. Your mind suddenly wandered to the events that happened today.
Those faces were so familiar...
But every time you seem to have a clue, your head would hurt and you'd forget all about it.
Damn you, Phil.
He may have granted your request, but he gave you a downside to using it.
You wondered if you would actually take off your mask just to figure out if you've seen them before...
You scoffed at yourself, No way you're going to let them see you. You're not going to do that to yourself.

The alarm clock interrupted your dream of fighting against monsters and zombies. You looked so badass doing it, it was just a shame that the stupid alarm ruined your fantasy.
Still, you managed to get up after five more minutes. You yawned and stretched, combing through your fluffed-up hair. You trudged downstairs and instantly went to take a shower, to hopefully wash the sleepiness away.
It did, slightly, so after dressing up what you wanted to wear, you went to the kitchen and prepared yourself a mug of (coffee/tea). While waiting for the water to boil, your feet had already put on the shoes you were going to wear. You pulled your hair back (with a band/in a ponytail). Your aunt had just sat down, eating her own breakfast.
You greeted her while pouring down the hot water on your mug. "Good morning."
"Good morning, Y/N," she said, but you had a feeling she wanted to say more, so you waited. You sat down and fiddled with your preferred breakfast. "Y/N..." you looked up at her when she said your name. "How was your... work yesterday? Did I word it right? Did-"
"It's okay," you cut her off. "Uh, it was fun. Yeah, it was... successful."
"That's good." She nodded in understanding. "It's good that you're having fun. Your parents would've wanted that-"
You choked on your drink. You shakily placed down your mug and your hands instantly went to cover your mouth, trying your best to stop the coughing. "Excuse me, I-" Cough. "I, uh-" Cough, cough, cough! "Aunt May, can we not talk about them right now? Or never, I just-"
"Oh!" She sits up straighter. "I'm so sorry, dear. I'll try not to mention them again. I'm so sorry."
"It's okay, May." You smiled timidly before drinking from your mug. Not long after the awkward silence, you heard the bus arriving. "Op, that's my call." You said, retrieving your bag and bounded towards May, giving her a peck on the cheek. "Bye, May. See you later."
"Enjoy your day, Y/N! Have fun."
You closed the door and sprinted to the opened bus door. You climbed up the steps and immediately found yourself seated at the back, where your newly made friends usually sat.
"Hi," you quietly said, placing your bag on your lap.
They greeted you back, and the ride was comfortably silent.
When the bus had stopped, the four of you stood up, and you just noticed the cast Sashi was wearing on her arm. "Oh my gosh, Sashi, what happened with your arm?"
Sashi smiled sheepishly, slightly hiding her broken arm behind her arm, but failed miserably, causing her to hiss, making you wince. "Thanks for your concern, Y/N, but it's nothing."
"She slept on her arm," Boone whispered to you, but you couldn't seem to believe a word he said.

The day went on like normal. Lunchtime had arrived and you trudged towards the cafeteria. You weren't looking forward to lunch. Yesterday, you ate your food in a freaking bathroom stall. It was depressing and uncomfortable. You just hoped you wouldn't end up sitting on the wet toilet seat again. You'd rather not eat at all and starve than see your depressing self-eating sandwich alone in a space such suffocating.
"Hey! Over here!" Hearing your name seemed to have brought you out of your despair and you followed their voice. You saw Penn waving his arm in the air with a smile on his face. You smiled back and walked towards their table, holding the tray.
You just didn't notice a leg magically appearing under you, and you tripped on it. Luckily you didn't fall on the floor- which would have been super embarrassing, but all your food managed to fall from the tray and all splattered to the ground. Everyone looked at you both in pity and annoyed.
You just bowed your head down in apology and skipped to your friends' table. You slightly cowered behind Penn's back, even as far as clutching his arm in mercy. You failed to notice a blush covering his cheeks because you were so busy looking at the guy who messed with you.
The table where you tripped on was empty, seemed that they just left. You sighed in both relief and defeat because you didn't figure out who was the perpetrator. You let go of Penn's arm and placed your head on your hands in dismay. Now, you're hungry and you're pissed. You didn't want to show them that you are angry, but you couldn't stop your stomach from growling.
Penn noticed that and wordlessly pushed his tray to you.
Your eyes widened at his offer and began to refuse. "Oh no, I can't-"
"Just take some. I'm not that hungry anyway."
You frowned slightly. Oh, you wanted to kick yourself for your heart wanted to leap out of his chest because of his simple act of kindness. But, soon, you smiled and shyly took some of the fries he bought.
Now you really want him to go to your favorite bakery and treat him back.
