Chapter 8
My alarm starts to go off, signaling that it is time for me to get up. I turn off my alarm but lay in bed for a couple minutes before deciding to get up. I quickly get dressed and brush my teeth before sitting down on the couch, waiting for Eri and my mom to wake up.
After a couple minutes they wake up and walk out into the living room. "Once we're done eating breakfast we will head out to the school to check it out. After that you can go see if you can get an apprenticeship." My mom says as she gets the ingredients for breakfast.
"Do you want me to help?" I say as I get up from the couch.
"No, it's fine. There's not much you could do to help anyways."
"You sure?" My mom just nods in response. "Okay. Well I'll be researching some more hero associations then." I say as I pull out my my phone and sit back down on the couch.
After twenty minutes my mom says breakfast's ready. I put away my phone and walk over to the table. Breakfast was some pancakes with eggs on the side.
I quickly scarf down the delicious food and then wait for Eri and my mom to finish.
Once they both finish we all head to the door to put on our shoes. We walk out of the door into the cool autumn day.
We walk for a while in silence until we start to see the school in the distance.
"Its definitely smaller than U.A that's for sure." My mom stated when we get to the front gate of the school.
"Yeah, but it's the best hero school in the area so this is the best option." I say as I start to walk forward.
We go into the main office, where a student with black hair was arguing with the front desk lady.
"Are you fucking kidding me?! I leave aced every test!" He angrily yells at her.
"But you have showed up to very few classes. If you want to pass maybe you should try to show up to class." The lady says, trying her hardest to keep her cool.
"It doesn't matter if I show up! If I know it then I should pass!" He angrily shouts back.
"When you graduate and get a real job, just knowing something won't be enough. You will have to be there as well if you want to succeed."
"Bullshit. Once I graduate I will become a hero and will be the one bossing everyone around." He says as he pushes past us.
"I'm so sorry you had to see me deal with him." She apologizes once she sees us. "He is talented but hard headed and refuses to follow rules."
"Don't worry, I know someone like him so this stuff is commonplace for me." I say as I remember a certain sandy haired kid.
"Anyway, I'm here to sign my son up for school." My mom says.
"Sure, just fill out this form and then we will take him to the practice range for the test." She says while handing my mom a paper and pen.
"Um, my son is from U.A, so would he still have to take the exam?"
"Oh, no he won't need to." She says, surprised that someone from U.A is here.
"I'm guessing no one from U.A has transferred here?" I question based on her reaction.
"Yeah. Not many people moved here after that incident. Even fewer students moved here."
"Is there a hero course here? Because if so then I would like to be in that, or the thing most like it."
"There is, but it has a very low capacity and it is already full. But if you are really dead set on it then there is a battle system here, where people can battle as long as both sides agree to the stakes."
"Really? Well, I will learn more about that when I start coming here." I say right as my mom finishes filling out the paperwork and hands it in.
"Have a great day and hope to see you again." She says as we walk out of the building.
"I am going to go try to get that apprenticeship so you guys can head back home now. I will be back in an hour or two." I say as I start to walk in the direction of the hero agency that I want to get an internship with.
"Okay. I hope you get it." My mom says as her and Eri start walking back to the apartment.
When I'm done waving to them I start to head towards the hero agency.
After a little while I come across the agency. I look at the card to make sure that it's the right place before heading in.
The building is a couple stories, a bit taller than the surrounding areas since this is in the suburbs. The inside is clean and spacious.
"Hello, I am here to get an apprenticeship." I say as I walk up to the front desk.
"Mr and Mrs Hado are very busy right now. You will have to come back some other time."
"Do you know when they will be available?"
"Right now kid." A voice interrupts us. That voice belonging to Nejire's dad. "You can come back right now." He says as he waves me over.
I quickly walk over to him before following him into the elevator. "Thanks for giving me this opportunity." I say as the elevator goes to the fifth, and final floor.
"It's fine. You seem like a fine hero so it would be a waste to not give you an apprenticeship." He says as we step out of the elevator.
We walk in silence for a moment before we go into what seems to be the meeting room.
Inside I see a few heroes and Nejire's mom sitting down at the meeting table.
"Hello Izuku." She says, giving me a cold glare.
"Now we can begin this meeting." When Nejire's dad says this I get confused. "We will now be testing, and deciding whether or not we should give Izuku an apprenticeship."
"What?" I say, surprised about what is going on.
"We will be deciding whether you are worth having around. If it was up to me I would just let you in but my wife says we need to test you first."
"Now the first test. We will send you out to stop some crime. You will need to solve this peacefully and quickly." Nejire's mom says as she and the other heroes get up and start leading me outside.
"Fuck." I quietly mumble to myself. I then quickly follow the heroes.
A couple hours later
I lay on the ground, battered and bruised. After the first trial they then sent me into a fight against all of the heroes, which I lost every single fight.
The third trial was just simply me going into a training ground and fighting mock villains.
By the end of that trial I was ready to die. But luckily they said that was the last trial an they would notify me when they came to a decision.
After I left the building I grabbed some lunch and then plopped down onto the grass of a nearby park and slowly ate my food.
I hear a ringing in my pocket so I pause my eating and see that the caller doesn't have a number. I decide to answer to see who this us.
"Hello?" I ask to no reply. "Helloo?" I question again, this time getting a reply.
"Prepare yourself. Soon we will strike, and when we do, you best be ready." A mysterious voice says before immediately hanging up.
I sit there, knowing fully who that was. It was someone from the league of villains. And it seems that they are planning they're next move.
I quickly finish my lunch before getting up and rushing home. Once I get home I take off my shoes and check in my mom and Eri to make sure they are okay.
"Are you okay Izuku?" My mom worriedly asks me when she sees me rush into the living room.
"Yeah - something just happened - and I was worried something - happened to you guys." I say while panting.
"Well as you can see we're fine." My mom says as she looks at me with a smile.
"Have you had lunch?" She questions me.
"Yeah. I grabbed some stuff after getting tested by the heroes."
"What? What do you mean tested?"
"They wanted to see if I should be hired or not. They will let me know soon."
"Well I am going to go grab some lunch for me and Eri. Would it be okay if I left Eri here with you?"
"Yeah, that's fine. Could you grab me some snacks and a drink while you're out?"
"Yeah. I'll be back in half an hour." My mom says as she grabs the keys, puts on her shoes, and walks out the door.
I sit down on the couch next to Eri and see what she is watching on tv. It seems to be a magical girl show but Eri isn't really paying attention.
"So, how has living with us been?"
"Nice. Thank you very much for letting me stay with you." Eri says with very little emotion.
"You don't need to thank us. You are a little girl who needed somewhere to stay so of course we would let you live with us." I say as I smile at her.
"No, I'm just a burden to you. It would be better if I didn't exist. Even having my quirk would be better since I would then have a use." She says as she starts to tear up.
I quickly embrace her as she starts to cry.
"You are not a burden. We are happy to have you here and if we didn't want you to be here then we wouldn't have let you stay here. We care about you and you don't need to have a use, You are six years old."
"But-" She starts.
"No. You will stop thinking like that and know that we care about you. We will take care of you for as long as we need to."
She doesn't do anything after that except continue to cry. After a couple minutes she starts to nod off before finally falling asleep. I carefully move her off of me and lay her on the couch.
I get up and decide to call Nejire. I pull out my phone and dial her number. It rings a few times before she picks up.
"Hey Izuku, what's up?"
"I just wanted to call you to check in and see how you're doing."
"I'm doing fine. Although my mom is still giving me a hard time about you but she seems to have calmed down a lot. How have you been?"
"Fine. I just got back from trying to get an apprenticeship at your parents hero agency, although I dont know if I got in or not."
"Well I'm pretty sure that you will get in, because my parents are smart enough to say yes."
"Well we'll see soon. I will also be starting school in a couple weeks, or whenever I get used to my prosthetic arm. Oh and I ran into Mei Hatsume from the support division so I'll be getting my prosthetic from her!" I say the last part with excitement.
"That's great, getting a prosthetic from someone who probably specializes in making combat gear. Anyways I need yo get going, I am meeting with a hero agency to get an apprenticeship."
"Good luck." I say as I end the call.
Once I put my phone away I decide to take a nap since the tests wore me out. I lay down on the couch next to Eri and drift off to sleep.
Timeskip a few days
My phone begins to ring so I answer to see who it was. When I answer I am instantly greeted by a loud voice on the other end.
"IZUKU! YOUR PROSTHETIC IS DONE!" I hear the voice shout.
"Geez Mei, could you not yell into my ear." I say while my ears ringing slightly from her outburst. "Should I head down there right now?"
"Yep. I also have an upgraded version of your hero outfit."
"I'm not going to wear anything except my current hero suit so if you want to upgrade something at least upgrade the one I will use."
"Fiiiiiiine. Bring your hero outfit here so I can upgrade it." She pouts.
"I'll be there in ten minutes. See ya." I say as I end the call.
I call out to my mom to let her know where I'm going and then grab my hero outfit. I put on my shoes and then quickly run out the door.
Once I get to the workshop I knock on the large door.
Before I could knock a second time the door flung open, sending me tumbling backwards.
"Oh, sorry. Didn't see ya there." She says as she offers me a hand. I accept it before we walk inside.
We wade through the piles of junk until we reach her desk. On it was a red prosthetic arm that seemed relatively normal.
"So what's the catch?" I say when I can't see anything overtly dangerous about it.
"It can mimic a real arm so you should be able to use your quirk on it, it is nearly completely an alloy which is three times tougher than steel. I refrained from adding anything more, so your welcome." I breathe a sigh of relief at the last part.
"Well, let's put this thing on shall we." I say as I motion for her to put it on.
"Just as a warning, this will be agonizing. This is going to attach all of your nerves to it, which won't feel good at all." She says while picking it up.
"You ready?" I nod in response before she puts the prosthetic against my stump and flips a switch. Once that switch flips the gates of hell open up in my arm.
I start to yell out in pain as it feels like my arm is being torn apart slowly, then put back together just to repeat. This agony goes on for ten minutes and during that time Mei looked worried but knew this was normal.
Once the pain finally stops I am barely able to stand. My legs give out and Mei quickly catches me before moving me to a chair.
"What's going on in here?" A familiar voice intrudes.
I look up and am surprised to see who it was. "Hello Nejire. Didn't expect to see you here." I say as she sees me and quickly runs over to me.
"What was going on? You could hear the screams from a couple blocks down. Are you okay?" She starts rapid firing at me.
"Yeah I'm fine, a little tired, but fine. I just had my prosthetic attached and it wasn't a pleasant experience."
"Hello Nejire. I'm not sure if we've met but I'm Mei, Izuku's personal engineer." She said while holding out her hand.
"I'm Nejire, Izuku's girlfriend." She said while taking Mei's hand and shaking it.
"He should be good to go, but he will be weak and since you are here. I doubt you will have any problem with escorting him home?"
"Yeah, I'm fine with walking him home." Nejire says as she walks over to help me up.
"Don't forget to let me know when those upgrades to my suit have been made."
Yeah, they will probably be done in a couple days. Also make sure to let me know if something goes wrong with your prosthetic. See ya." She waves to us as we walk out of the building with me heavily leaning on Nejire.
We walk for a minute in silence before she speaks up.
"Are you sure you're okay? If at any time you aren't, just let me know and I'll come over to help you out."
"I'm fine, the pain is over now. I'm just drained from it, but I should regain my energy with a meal and a good night's sleep.
"Okay. Just don't push yourself if you start to feel lightheaded."
"I won't. If I passed out then that would make you and my mom worry."
"You're damn right it would!"
We walk in silence for a bit longer until we get to my house. She walks me up to my door before I take out my key and unlock it.
She helps me in and I take off my shoes. She let go of me and I slowly walked towards the couch.
"Hey Izuku." My mom said when she walked into the room.
"Are you okay?" She says when she sees me stumbling to the couch.
"Yeah. It's just that the prosthetic connection was a little bit draining." I try to downplay what happened but Nejire had other plans.
"A little draining! I could hear your screaming from a couple blocks away! That was not a little draining!"
"Oh hi Nejire, didn't see you there." She waves to Nejire.
"You were screaming so loud that she could hear you block away?!" She worriedly shouts.
"Wellllll .... she had to connect my nerves to it and that wasn't a very pleasant experience." I sheepishly say.
"Are you okay now? How long will it hurt? Is there any remedies?" She starts to bombard me with questions.
"The pain has subsided, all that's left is me feeling drained. Speaking of that I will go take a nap now." I finish as I walk to my room to get some much needed shut eye.
Once I get to my room I see that Eri was laying on my bed, fast asleep. Ever since when she had that breakdown a few days ago she has started to get closer to me. She is also starting to be able to show happiness.
I lay down next to her a quickly drift off to sleep.
Izuku's mom P.O.V
"You can stay a little while if you want and have lunch with us." I say as I walk over to the kitchen to start preparing lunch. Lunch today is going to be bigger and take more time to celebrate Izuku getting his prosthetic.
"Sure. I don't have anywhere to be today and my parents aren't expecting me back until dinner. I can spare some time." She says as she walks over to the couch to take a seat.
The silence was tense and awkward. After a few minutes of not being able to take the silence I decide to say something that has been on my mind ever since Izuku got home.
"Could you please take care of Izuku. I won't be able to keep track of him while he's out on hero duty, which if no one is keeping track of him then ..." I stop before I start to tear up.
I quickly feel Nejire's embrace. "I will keep track of him. If he even has any chance of dying I will back him up and make sure he gets out of there, Even if it costs me my life."
I start crying even more. "Please don't. Please don't sacrifice your life just to get my son out of a situation. I would be devastated if Izuku died, but we both would be devastated, possibly mor than me, if someone died to save him. Please value your life above all else."
"I would gladly give up my life for Izuku, but I would do everything in my power to get us both out of every situation."
We just sit there in each other's embrace for a bit. While in that embrace I start to smile, knowing Izuku has a wonderful girlfriend.
"Izuku really is luck to have you. Well not lucky, I'm sure that this has nothing to do with luck and everything to do with him."
"Yeah. If anything I'm the lucky one, having Izuku before anyone else snatched him." Nejire chuckles.
I get up from the embrace to start cooking the food. Once I get back to cooking and Nejire goes back to the couch there is a silence again, but this one less awkward.
Izuku's P.O.V
I am lightly shaken awake by a small hand. I look over to see that Eri is pushing me in her sleep.
I smile at this before getting up and stretching. I check the time and see that I've been out for around an hour.
I get up and then walk out to the living room. Once I enter I see that my mom is busy cooking and Nejire is laying down on the couch, reading a book.
"Oh, Izuku you're up." Nejire says, looking away from her book.
"Yeah, and I seem to have regained enough energy to walk. What's for lunch?" I question when I see the food my mom is cooking.
"It's nearly done. It's grilled cheese with salmon on the side. Could you go wake Eri up and tell her lunch is ready."
"Yeah." I say as I head back into my room to wake Eri up.
Once I enter my room though I see something unexpected. I see Eri silently crying in her sleep.
I quickly go over and gently wake her up.
She starts to wake up and when she sees me she bursts into tears and latches onto me.
Guessing what her dream was about due to her reaction I start to rub her head. "It's okay Eri, I'm here, I'm fine." I say as she continues to cry into my shirt.
After a couple minutes and an intrusion by my mom Eri finally stopped crying.
"What was the dream about?" I gently ask her.
"Y-you were out d-doing hero work w-w-when Overhaul showed up and k-k-k-killed you." She says while bawling.
"It's okay Eri, I'm right here and I'm perfectly fine." She doesn't seem to have cheered up.
"Hey Eri look." I say to get her attention.
She looks at me before I point to my prosthetic. "Isnt this cool Eri? I'm like a robot now." I say while giving her a huge grin, hoping she stops crying and cheers up.
"Woah! That's so cool." She says with a slight smile, but I know that means she is as happy as she can be right now.
"Right? Now I can punch bad guys in the face with a metal fist!" I say while doing a dramatic pose.
"She giggles slightly as I pick her up and escort her to lunch.
Once i get out there my mom and Nejrie both look to me worried, before they see the giggling Eri on my shoulders.
We eat lunch quickly before we all migrate to the couch and talk as Eri falls asleep against me.
"Yeah, I need to start making a plan for exercising and all that. I would also like to take up mixed martial arts so that I can be effective even without using much of my power. The thing is even if I get the apprenticeship I would still be barely cutting it to pay for this gym membership."
"I could hook you up with someone that would teach you for free, and they're good." Nejire says.
"How?"
"Someone owes my parents a favor and I could probably convince them to do this for you."
"You'd do that for me?! Thank you so much!" I hug her in glee and she laughs as she returns the hug.
"Be warned though, his occupation uses MMA but he doesn't teach it for a living."
"Then what is his occupation?"
"He is a undercover agent working for my parents hero agency. So he might not be the best teacher but he will be strict."
"Okay. Let me know if he will."
Right then we hear a buzz. Nejire checks her phone before getting up. "Sorry, my parents are making dinner now so I need to get going. I'll let you know what he says." She says as she gets up and puts shoes on before going out the door.
Nejire P.O.V
I quickly get home as my parents are finishing up dinner. "So, what did you do today sweetie?" My dad says when I walk in.
"Well I walked around town for a bit, before I heard some screaming so went to check it out." When I say that they both look at me like I grew a second head.
"You heard screaming?!" My dad semi shouts.
"Yeah. I went to check it out and it turns out it was Izuku." They look at me like I am a giant wasp.
"He was just having a prosthetic attached so he was fine." They calm down slightly.
"And since he was weak from it I helped walk him home." My mom started to grow suspicious.
"Once we got there his mom invited me in and Izuku went and passed out in his room. I talked with his mom for a while until Izuku got up and we had lunch. We then talked for a while until you said dinner was nearly done."
Just then I remembered something. "Hey, could you see if H can teach Izuku some MMA so he can perform better?"
"Well after dinner we are busy so you can go and ask him." My dad says as he sets the table.
"Okay." I say as I sit down and begin to eat.
Once I'm done eating I go and put on my shoes and head over to H's house. Once I get to the small house I knock on the door.
"Wassup?" I see H open the door, wobbling a bit.
"Were you drinking again?" I sternly question.
"Noooo." I keep glaring at him. "Maybe a little." He says while rubbing his neck sheepishly.
"But! In my defense I dont drink if I have a mission, so that's good."
"That doesn't mean it's okay to get drunk so often."
"Okay, but you already know why I drink." He says with a serious tone.
"Yeah, but I doubt your family would want you to get drunk just because you can't see them."
"So what did you want."
"Could you train a friend of mine in MMA?"
"Nope. I can't teach and you know that."
"Please." I beg him. "This guy has insane drive so he would go through anything you put him through."
He ruffles his black hair while thinking. Just then something clicks and my legs give out.
H quickly catches me before I can hit the ground. "H?"
"Uhm, yeah?"
"Is your real name Hisashi?" When I say this he tenses.
"H-how did you know?" He carefully asks.
"The kid I want you to train," I pause. "His name is Izuku Midoriya." When I say this he freezes in place.
"Say that one more time. This time slower."
"The kid I want you to train is your son."
