*First person pov*

"Hands upon your hearts!!!" The commander yelled. "Yessir!!" We all yelled as we saluted. It was graduation day, and we get to hear about the different regiments. I couldn't believe it myself, but I was standing with the top ten trainees. Apparently, I got tied with 3rd place, so I was tied with Bertholdt. So I guess you can say it was the top eleven trainees. "For you trainees graduating today, three paths are now open before you. You can be stationed at the walls and defend the cities as members of the Garrison! You can put your lives on the line to fight titans in their own territory as members of the Survey Corps! And, you can serve the King by patrolling the crowds and protecting the order as members of the Military Police Brigade!! Of course, only the ten plus one with the top scores we announced earlier are allowed into the Military Police!!" The commander announces and I could hear the bad ass music playing in the background. I was standing in between Bertholdt and Annie. Jean was glaring at Eren from the corners of his eyes. I've finally made it this far... but am I prepared? Am I really prepared to witness the fall of Trost and see the horror of titans for real? I asked myself and my smile faltered. I looked down in deep thought.

Time skip~

Everyone was drinking alcohol, cheering about graduating. I was standing with Eren, talking about stuff. "What regiment are you guys joining?" Thomas asked us. "I'm joining the Survey Corps." Eren announced and I nodded. "Same here." I said as I drank my water. I refuse to drink alcohol, it's bad. "You don't want to join the Military Police!? Are you two serious, Eren? Basil?" Thomas said. "But you guys got one of the top ten scores!" some guy said, I forgot his name. "I've been dead set on my goal since the very beginning. I didn't train to live comfortably within inner district I worked hard so I could fight titans." Eren said and I nodded. "Yeah, yeah. What he said." I said as I drank more water. "But you guys can't possibly win!!" Thomas yelled, gaining all the other trainee's attention. "You two know full well. You know just how many have been eaten by them. We've lost more than 20 percent of the entire population already. Mankind... doesn't stand a chance against them." I gripped hard on my drink. "So?" Me and Eren asked at the same time. "You're giving up because you think you can't win?" I asked him. "Well-" "It's true. We've only suffered only defeats so far. That's because we knew hardly anything about them!" Eren said. "We can't defeat them by using sheer numbers. We may have lost, but the knowledge we obtained from those battles is our guiding beacon to hope." I said as I drank more water. I'mma be H2O Delirious! "Yet you'd discard the tactical progress brought by hundreds and thousands of sacrifices, just to serve yourself up on a silver platter!? You gotta be kidding me!" Eren shouts. "I'll- No, WE'LL kill every last one of them and break free from these walls! That is our dream!! Mankind hasn't lost everything yet!!" Eren yelled, with tears of anger in his eyes. Everyone stayed silent. Eren runs off. Me, Mikasa, and Armin run after him. "Eren, wait!!" Armin shouts as we follow him. We found Eren sitting on the steps, rubbing the tears out of his eyes. We sat down on the steps with Eren. "Eren, can we talk about your dream?" Armin asked Eren. "Yeah. After all, I got it from you. Breaking free from the walls, and all that...." Eren answered. Armin looked away then looked up determinedly. "I'm going to enlist in the Survey Corps." Armin announces. Eren was shocked. "Are you for real, Armin?! You're our best theoretician! Put that to better use!!" Eren shouts. "I don't care if I die as long as I can be useful." Armin said. "I'm going to the Survey Corps as well." Mikasa said. Eren turned to Mikasa. "You got the top score, didn't you!? Go to the Military Police!!" Eren yelled. "I'll go to the Military Police if you do. If you go to the Garrisons, so will I. You'll die an early death if I'm not there for you." Mikasa told Eren. Eren holds his head and sighed. "I never asked for that." Eren said. "I'm going to the Survey Corps too." I announced, looking up at the starry sky. "Are you for real Basil!? Go to the Military Police with your brother!" Eren yelled, spitting venom on brother. "Eren, like you, I've been dead set on this goal. Nobody, not even Jean, will stop me from being a Scout, a hero. I will sever justice to those beasts, for doing what it has been doing for many years to us." I announced, bawling my fists. "You guys..." Eren trails off. "I don't want to lose what's left of my family." Mikasa announced. We all turned to her. I looked back up at the starry sky, all the constellations are there. I look at my favorite one, Taurus. I saw a shooting star zip across the sky. I close my eyes and made a wish. I'm going to change this place.... no one will die, not as long as I'm around.
