Surreptitious
Ooo I like big words, sorry..
"Grillbz-" Sans began, but instantly stopped, feeling terrible for not telling him sooner. Grillby sighed roughly, covering his face with a hand and lowering his head, his flames flickering low. He didn't know how to react, what to say, how to feel. All he felt was betrayal.
"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked in a low voice, one that made Sans feel as if he had destroyed the whole underground. He searched for the right words, but came up empty. Grillby hunched his shoulders, as if the weight of the world was placed upon his back.
"Sans."
"I didn't want to scare you!" Sans sat forward, his face pain stricken and heavy with grief.
"I knew that if I told anyone, it would just cause more problems.. I thought maybe if I hid it, I could.. Could.."
"Could what?! Just magically heal?! Or maybe fix yourself?! Sans, don't your realize how many monsters have died from that same-"
"I KNOW!" Sans yelled at the monster, his body shaking with the effort. He fell back onto his bed, crumpling onto himself, and mumbling under his breath as tears began to fall down his face, dripping onto the sheets beneath him.
"I know.. And I'm scared." Grillby was silent, and turned his head slightly to look at his crestfallen friend, feeling guilty for yelling at him. He wanted to reach out to Sans, to caress his cheek and wipe the tears away, to pull him close to his chest an hold him, to protect him from all of their problems.
But he couldn't move to do it.
"I just wish you would have told me sooner." He whispered, and covered his face again, letting out shaky breaths and trying not to think of what could happen if they didn't find help.
Finally, Grillby looked over to Sans, watching for a moment the pitiful way that the monster rocked himself slowly, having pulled his legs to his chest and burton his face into them. Grillby stood slowly, trying not to bend that mattress and alert the grieving skeleton.
When he had gotten close enough, he shuffled onto the bed again, and pulled Sans to him, wrapping his arms around the huddled ball of sadness. He smiled and held him in his lap, rocking slowly and keeping the heap of bones warm. Sans was motionless, and allowed himself to be held, forcing his eyes closed.
"I'm sorry." Grillby rested his chin on the top of Sans' skull, and let his breath stir across the bone hotly. Sans nodded, but stayed quiet, nestling closer to Grillby's chest. They sat there for the rest of the night, seeking comfort from one another, till they first rays of dawn broke their lament.
I don't know what the hell happened in this last chapter, I just wanted to write, and was kinda typing and watching the Cleveland Show at the same time.. It sucks. This isn't really what I had planned. I'll probably repost something better tomorrow. Night. (I get tired after fangirling)
