All Night Long

"I thought you said you were okay!" Grillby frowned at the skeleton, his voice loud with anger. A scared look stopped him in his tracks.

"Well, I lied.." Grillby called out in anguish as his friend fell back again, his head spinning with panic as Sans passed out.

"Sans!" He barely caught him as he slammed to the floor, a little surprise by the skeleton's weight. He had held him before, mostly picking the drunk up and placing him in the cot in the back room. He realized that the reason why it was so hard was because he had been overcome with grief following the death of his daughter and his other friends that he hadn't moved much from behind the bar.

His energy dwindled almost instantly, and he gave up, instead of supporting the other monster, the bartender weakly slammed to the floor next to him, letting out a pained sigh as he felt the chill once more. He shivered harshly as it crept across his skin, like pointed claws working their way into each of his nerves.

The shallow breathing of his dearest friend had him wishing he could do more, but his body refused to get up. Instead, he did the best he could to hold Sans to him, placing his cheek against the top of the skeleton's skull.

"Please be okay.." He whispered and let out the softest whimper of a breath, his eyelids falling shut as he made his final stand to protect the only monster he had left. Slowly, as he slipped into darkness, his flames flickered low, casting the once warm light into the unforgiving shadows.
