V

POV: Y/N

I stepped out of the fitting room and saw the shopkeeper near the shelves, arranging some hats. She glanced at me and said, "You look stunning, Miss! I knew the violet would suit you perfectly!"

I blushed at her remark and followed her to the counter. "So, my dear, that will be a total of 578.98 pounds!"

Hearing those words, I froze, suddenly realizing the seriousness of the situation. My heartbeat skyrocketed. "Excuse me, Madam, but I've just realized I don't have a single penny on me. I'm terribly sorry to have wasted your time," I said, ashamed of my actions. She had been so kind, letting me use her bathtub. At that thought, my face turned crimson, and I stared at the floor, feeling insulted to be wearing the dress and having wasted her precious time.

She raised her eyebrows and gave me a curious look. "Oh, I see. Well, what shall we do, then?" she said, placing a finger on her cheek. "I know! Could you act as a carrier pigeon? You see, I have an old friend to whom I need to deliver a note, but, well, my former carrier pigeon has... let's say... disappeared," she said with a smile.

I raised an eyebrow, the whole thing seeming too good to be true. "Are you serious? Is that really all you ask for? I would feel bad accepting such an offer." She smiled and nodded. "That's all I ask, Miss. By doing this, you'll make things much easier for me!" she said warmly.

"If you insist, I see no reason to refuse." She smiled again, picked up a piece of paper, and carefully wrote a few lines with a quill. "Here, this is the note you need to deliver to my friend. As for the address, just ask for the direction to City Hall," she said with a smile. I nodded and took the paper she had delicately placed on the edge of the table. "How will I know who to give it to?" I asked. She seemed surprised by the question and laughed.

"Look for the charming man dressed in red and simply tell him you're coming on behalf of Rosie," she said with a mischievous grin. Confused by the vague description, I gave an awkward smile.

"Wait, I have something for you!" she said, handing me a pair of white satin gloves. "You're even more stunning now!" Touched by her gesture, I took one of her hands in mine. She stiffened, perhaps disliking physical contact. "I'm sorry. Thank you so much for your kindness. I hope to see you again soon!" She stared at me for a good twenty seconds before bursting into laughter. Her high-pitched laugh echoed throughout the room.

I left under Rosie's cheerful farewell and went in search of the man in red.
