Third Person P.O.V

Ari slams against the boulder furiously, shaking his head before gasping as he turns around. He doesn't see (Y/N), meaning she was out there.

With him.

"Let me out, you lying, slimy, son of a--"

Maui hums to himself, dancing and skipping happily as he walks towards the boat. He picks up the oar, dusting it off.

"You're welcome!" He lightly sings, tapping his heels together as he jumps.

He cartwheels, turning to the cave and waving 'bye' with a smirk before pausing as his tattoo stops him.

He angrily gestures to the cave, Maui raising a brow.

"No. I'm not going to Te Fiti with a couple of kids. I'm going to get my hook." Maui shoves his finger to his mini self, "you have yours and I'm not Maui without mine."

Maui walks rolls his eyes, the mini version of himself tugging on his tattoos. "Talk to the back."

He flicks him away, the mini Maui landing on the other side. He slumps, gasping quietly when he sees (Y/N).

Maui turns, shrieking once more when he sees (Y/N) standing on the boat with her hands on her hips and her expression furious.

Hei Hei clucks at her feet, moving around her leg in a circle.

"How did-- when did you--" Maui stammers, gesturing back to the cave before looking back at the girl. "Weren't you... What?"

"Where's Ari?" (Y/N) demands, Maui sighing heavily in mild annoyance.

...

Ari yells as he slams against the boulder, only moving it slightly.

"Ow!" He groans, rubbing his shoulder before growling in anger. "Gotta get to (Y/N)..."

(Y/N) taps her foot, the boat swaying lightly from being pulled to the water slowly.

"Listen girly, I got places to be, so..." Maui drags, motioning for her to move. "Scoot."

(Y/N) raises a brow, folding her arms with a smug expression. "Yeah, no. We're not going anywhere without Ari. Sorry, bud. But you're gonna have to throw me off this boat if you want it."

Maui gives her a deadpan expression, his small, tattoo form rapidly shaking his head and silently screaming.

...

Ari looks back, rushing to the back of the cave. His face drops and his face scrunches up in horror at the sight of a self-made Maui sculpture.

He shakes his head, rushing forward and stopping when he sees sunlight.

"There," he nods, climbing up the statue.

Ari places himself between the head and the wall, using his legs to to push the statue over with grunts of effort. He swiftly rises as the statue starts falling, leaping up into the small opening above and catching himself.

He presses his back against one side, his feet pressed against the other as the statue fully collapses. Ari looks down at it for a moment before sighing, nodding as he climbs out.

Maui sails away from the island with a triumphant laugh, "good riddance, you filthy pile of pebbles!"

His tattoo taps his foot angrily, shaking his head as he glares up at Maui.

"Oh, no, no, no. Don't look at me like that. I'm sure she's fine," Maui shrugs off, waving his arm nonchalantly. "Probably can swim. And the guy? It's a beautiful cave, he's gonna love it."

He sets Hei Hei down, smirking.

"And I'm going to love you in my belly!" Maui gestures to his stomach, setting down feed for Hei Hei. "Now, let's fatten you up, drumstick."

Hei Hei looks at the pile of food, leaning down and pecking next to it. Maui stares at the rooster in bewilderment, slowly sliding his head to the feed.

Ari emerges from the top of the cave, panting lightly as he scrambles to his feet. He looks around, gasping when he sees the boat sailing away.

"(Y/N)!"

Ari shouts, his eyes narrowing as he squints in anger. He starts running, yelling as he leaps off the rock.

Maui turns, watching as Ari falls into the ocean. He slowly turns, resting his chin in his palm with an amused smile as Ari bursts from the water.

"I could watch that all day." He leans back, shrugging. "Okay! Enjoy the island. Maui out!"

"Hey! Where's (Y/N)?! Stop!" Ari yells, watching Maui sail away quickly with ease. "And you have to put back the heart!"

Ari looks back to the island before shaking his head, starting to swim after Maui and gasping as the ocean helps him out by diving him under and pulling him.

(Y/N) suddenly lands on the boat, Maui jumping with wide eyes. She pants lightly, squeezing the water her hair out before turning to him in anger.

"I can't believe you actually threw me off the boat!"

Ari lands next to her a moment later, blinking rapidly as he sways lightly.

"Ari!" (Y/N) greets in relief, hugging him with a grin.

He recovers, laughing lightly and hugging her back while setting his chin on top of her head.

"... Did not see that coming," Maui mumbles as he rises, (Y/N) becoming furious once more.

She pulls away and swiftly turns to him, huffing as Ari does the same with a glare.

"We are Ari and (Y/N) of Motunui." Ari growls out, sweeping his wet hair from his face. He walks closer to Maui, standing face to face with him. "This is our canoe, and you will journey to--"

(Y/N) gasps as Maui moves to the side, swiftly shoving Ari off the boat.

"Hey!"

The mini Maui frantically points towards Ari, Maui staring boredly down at him.

"All right, you both need to get over it. We gotta move, so..." He clicks his tongue, motioning for her to move out of his way.

The ocean places Ari back on the boat, Maui rolling his eyes with a sigh.

"And... He's back."

"We... Are Ari and (Y/N) of Motunui--"

Maui halts the boat, (Y/N) yelping and Ari gasping as they both fall from the boat. Maui smiles to himself, his smile falling when he hears water splashing behind him.

Ari stood with his arms crossed, (Y/N) peeking around him with a glare at Maui.

"It was Ari and (Y/N), right?" Maui questions, turning to the two with a neutral expression.

"No..." (Y/N) sarcastically responds, Maui raising a brow. "Yes. Ari only said it about ten times."

"And you will restore the heart!" Ari takes the heart out of his necklace, showing it to Maui.

Maui stares at it for a moment before snatching it, hurling it as far as he could as (Y/N) and Ari gasp in horror. It lands in the sea, (Y/N) shaking her head with her mouth dropped and Ari's eyes wide. It comes back a moment later, however, traveling rapidly and striking Maui on the forehead.

He collapses backwards, sitting up and looking between the two and the heart.

"All right, I'm out." He states, shrugging and shaking his head.

Maui dives into the water, swimming a few feet before the ocean drags him back to the boat and slams him down onto it.

"Come on!" Maui yells as he flails his arms in anger, the ocean spitting in his face as he scowls.

"What is your deal?" Ari grumbles, grabbing the heart and rising.

Maui noticeably flinches with wide, fearful eyes, (Y/N) raising a brow as she takes it from Ari and leans it closer to the man.

"Are you... scared of it?" she slowly questions.

"No!" Maui quickly responds, scooting away as (Y/N) and Ari slyly smile at one another. "No," he says again, nervously laughing. "I'm not afraid."

Mini Maui bites his nails anxiously, running around frantically before nodding at Maui with a smirk.

"Stay out of this, or you're sleeping in my armpit." He mumbles with a glare, focusing on (Y/N). "You, stop it. That is not a heart. It's a curse. The second I took it, I got blasted outta the sky..."

Ari takes it from (Y/N), moving it closer to Maui with a smirk of amusement as he tries to scoot away further.

"... And I lost my hook! Get it away fron me," Maui waves it away, his voice shaking lightly.

"Get this away?" Ari says in a baby-talk voice, (Y/N) snickering.

"Hey, hey, hey! I'm a demigod, okay?" Maui warns, glaring between the two snickering teens. "Stop that. I will smite you!"

Ari raises a brow, leaning it closer to Maui.

"You wanna get... Smote? Smotten?" He growls in anger before rising, stomping his foot. "Listen, that thing doesn't give you the power to create life. It's a homing beacon of death."

"Right." (Y/N) drags the word, Ari holding the heart in his hand as he raises a brow at Maui.

"It's true! And if you don't put it away, bad things are gonna come for it."

"Bad things..." (Y/N) mumbles, remembering Tala's story. "Like monsters?"

"Yes!"

"Come for this?" Ari says in amusement, raising the heart above his head. "The heart?!"

(Y/N) stares at her friend, stammering as she shakes her head. "Uh, Ari, I don't think that's a good--"

"You mean this heart right here?!" Ari shouts loudly, waving it around and jumping as he looks around the empty ocean, his voice echoing. "This heart right here?! The heart, look!"

"Ari-- that's not a good idea--" (Y/N) continues to try to protest.

"Don't! You can't raise your voice like that! Shush!" Maui hisses, his eyes darting around the area.

"Monsters-- wanting the heart-- ringing any bells?" (Y/N) continues as Ari continues to scream confidently.

"Come and get it!" Ari finishes shouting, Maui frantically shushing him.

"Listen to her! You are gonna get us killed!" He states firmly with a scowl, shaking his head.

"Remember the tale, Ari? Monsters did try to find the heart after..." (Y/N) trails off, Ari shrugging.

"It's fine, (Y/N). We're gonna get to Te Fiti so you," he jabs a finger to Maui's chest. "Can put it back. Thank you. You're welcome!" Ari bows.

An arrow was shot at their boat, their faces falling and their eyes widening. Hei Hei caws, the arrow right between his legs and narrowly avoided him.

Hei Hei starts pecking it, Maui grabbing the arrow and inspecting it.

"Kakamora..."

"Kaka-- what?" Ari raises a brow, Maui moving past him.

"Murdering little pirates." Maui replies, throwing the arrow down and looking ahead.

Ari looks over (Y/N), setting a hand on her shoulder as the three stare into the wall of fog.

"Wonder what they're here for. Any idea, Ari?" Maui grumbles, Ari glancing down at the heart in his other hand.

Three small coconuts come into view, moving around oddly.

"They're... Kind of cute?" Ari says as he tilts his head, Maui looking at him in disbelief as (Y/N) nods in agreement.

The coconuts suddenly change, adding warpaint to make them seem scarier as they draw their weapons.

"... Never mind."

Maui's eyes narrow, Ari's face hardened and (Y/N) nervously watching as a massive ship emerges from the fog, shaped like an island.

Dozens of angry Kakamora bang on drums in sync, each different in their own way. Their leader stood above, pointing his spear to the heart in Ari's hand.

"Ocean, wanna help us out?" Ari questions, Maui shaking his head.

"The ocean doesn't help you, you help yourself!" Maui shouts, quickly adjusting some rope. "(Y/N), tighten the halyard. Ari, bind the stays!"

(Y/N)'s face held confusion, Ari blankly staring at the man.

"Neither of you can sail?!"

"Uh, well... We're..."

"Self-taught?" Ari finishes, nervously smiling.

Maui was unamused as he tugs the rope, the boat jerking forward and sailing quickly along the water.

The Kakamora leader taps his spear, some coconuts being released to bang on another set of drums as they sail faster.

(Y/N) looks back at the large boat, gasping as it starts to gain on them. "Guys? They're gaining on us!"

"Can't you shape shift or something?!" Ari questions, looking up at the monsters with wide eyes.

"Do you see my hook?" Maui demands harshly with a scowl, his mini Maui making his hook vanish. "No magic hook, no magic power!"

"Look out!" (Y/N) yells, shoving Ari and jumping back as spears land on their boat, ropes tied and leading to the Kakamora's ship.

Hei Hei ducks, dodging one of them accidentally as he continues pecking the wood before pecking the spear.

The Kakamora pull the ropes, making (Y/N) and Ari's ship jerk backwards. Hei Hei rolls, landing in the under compartment with a squawk.

Maui works on removing the spears, Ari and (Y/N) rushing to do the same as they draw closer to the enemy.

Their leader motions with his spear, the others following his order. A coconut slices a rope, rocks falling and more sails being released at the large boat splits up into two more smaller ships.

"You've got to be kidding!" (Y/N) grunts, struggling to remove the spear.

"Their boat is turning into more boats?!" Ari yells in disbelief, managing to yank one of the spears out of the boat.

A horn blares, and the Kakamora start to ascend on the ropes to their ship. Ari gasps, Maui grabbing a rope and whipping the coconuts off of it.

Ari yanks another spear out, (Y/N) getting one out and tossing it as more Kakamora fall into the sea.

(Y/N) pulls against another spear lodged in the mast, Ari looking up and gasping when he notices Kakamora sliding closer to her. Maui notices too, both men rushing to help her before halting as she yanks the spear out.

"What?" She questions, looking between them as Ari side-glares at Maui.

(Y/N) gasps as a Kakamora drops on Ari, more dropping on them and multiple landing on Maui.

One pulls on Ari's necklace, making it pop open as Ari gasps. The stone rolls from it next to Hei Hei, and (Y/N) uses the oar to smack the coconut off Ari before quickly turning to the heart.

"Hei Hei... I know that look." She says in a warning tone as he stares at the heart. "Don't!"

Hei Hei picks it up and swallows it, her expression dropping to defeat.

"You did it."

"No, no, no!" Ari yells, "Hei Hei!"

The Kakamora rushes forward, bolting past (Y/N)'s foot as Ari lunges for it. It grabs Hei Hei, rushing through the under compartment and popping out of the other side.

"No!" (Y/N) frantically grabs for it as it climbs up the mast with Hei Hei, her quickly following.

Ari watches after her in concern, Maui preoccupied with dozens of Kakamora climbing him.

(Y/N) reaches for it just as it gets to the rope, snapping it off and pulled back to their boat by its friends.

"Maui, they have the heart!" Ari shouts, (Y/N) swinging herself down and landing with a grunt.

Maui looks past him, watching the coconut with Hei Hei.

"That's a chicken."

"Hei Hei swallowed--" (Y/N) groans in frustration, lightly hitting her forehead in a stressed manner.

"The heart is inside of him!" Ari explains while patting her back, shaking his head. "We have to get him back."

The mini Maui looks up at Maui, the Kakamora starting to box them in.

"Maui?!" (Y/N) shouts in question as the man remains silent.

"CHEEEEEHOOOOO!" Maui suddenly yells, leaping and slamming down on the back of the boat.

The boat starts to spin rapidly, Ari grabbing the mast and grabbing (Y/N)'s arm as she yelps in alarm.

Maui rushes around the boat, leaning on the side and pulling the rope to rebalance the boat as they start sailing away from the Kakamora boxing them in.

The Kakamora that took Hei Hei raises it triumphantly as the others cheer, the three sailing to it.

"Right there!" Ari shouts, pointing up.

"Wait, why are we turning?" (Y/N) questions as Maui suddenly steers the ship to the left.

"What are you doing?" Ari demands, turning to face Maui.

"Uh, escaping?"

"They have the heart--"

"Forget it!" Maui cuts her off, jerking his head towards them. "You'll never get it back. Besides, you got a better one!"

He shows the heart on the oar to (Y/N), Ari scoffing lightly and rolling his eyes. (Y/N) looks at the oar and the ship, lighting up with an idea as she snatches it.

"Hey! What am I gonna steer with?!"

Ari rushes after her as she leaps onto the ship, Maui watching after them in disbelief.

"They're just gonna kill you!"

(Y/N) skids to a stop with a gasp, Ari stopping at her side as they look at the Kakamora.

They turn to the two in sync, aiming their weapons.

"They're just coconuts," Ari says with a smirk, (Y/N) nodding with her own grin as she swings the oar back.

She sends a coconut flying, Ari swiftly kicking another away. It flies through the air, crashing into two others.

(Y/N) swings the oar down and hits more away as Ari kicks others, grabbing one and bowling it to a group rushing to them. They topple over, the two grinning at one another and rushing ahead.

The Kakamora fire darts, scarcely missing Ari as he keeps them distracted. The coconut carrying Hei Hei climbs the ladder to its leader, slowly handing him away.

(Y/N) grabs Hei Hei, using the oar to hurdle herself over him and fall on the other side.

A dart strikes the leader, him slowly turning to the two. They have wide 'eyes' and 'mouths', one hiding the weapon behind its back as its friend rats it out.

The leader falls limp, passed out.

...

(Y/N) continues falling with a squeal, Ari rushing and skidding to a stop as he catches her.

He pants lightly, setting her down as she gratefully smiles at him. Ari bashfully grins back, rubbing his neck as the two stare at one another.

"There!" She notices Maui, Ari turning to look at him.

Ari nods, the two gasping as Kakamora head their way. (Y/N) securely carries Hei Hei, letting out a startled yell as Ari scoops her up once more.

He holds her waist to his side as he leaps off the upper deck, grabbing a rope and swinging them around.

They land, Ari grabbing a spear with a rope attached to it from a Kakamora aiming at them.

"Hold onto me!" He shouts, grabbing the oar and Hei Hei from her and securing Hei Hei's neck in his mouth.

(Y/N) stammers nervously as he pulls her to his chest, quickly grabbing him however as he leaps off the ship.

He hurls the spear into the mast of their boat, Maui looking back in surprise.

(Y/N) wraps her arms around Ari's neck, hanging from him as spears were thrown at them.

Ari kicks Maui down accidentally, releasing Hei Hei from his mouth as he lets out a laugh.

Hei Hei flies and crashes on the mast, hacking up the heart.

Ari sets (Y/N) down as she rushes to the heart, picking it up with a grin.

"We got it!" She shows it off to Maui as he groans in pain, looking up at her in some surprise.

Ari's smile falls as he looks around, "oh..."

The Kakamora's ships were closing in once more, trying to trap them. Maui jumps up, snatching the oar from Ari and grabbing the rope as he starts to quickly steer them out of there.

Darts were fired, making Ari quickly duck (Y/N) behind the mast as Maui starts sailing past two boats.

They start closing in next to each other, Maui tense as they sail through and barely making it.

The Kakamora's ships all collide with one another, wrecked as the three manage to escape.

(Y/N) rises and looks back, Ari doing the same as the wreckage becomes distant, the sun setting.
