09: Alone
Meanwhile, in the kingdom of Waken, another hero arises...
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Zane, wake up. They're coming for you."
"Yahweh? Is that you?"
Zane jumped out of bed, put on his shoes, and grabbed his pack and his sword. He smelled smoke in the air.
Four men awaited him as soon as he got outside.
"Zane Walsh, you are going to die today. We have killed everyone in your village and you are left."
Zane drew his sword.
"I'm not dying today," he said.
He struck first. The four men came at him in a line, and Zane cut them all down.
"You need to flee the town. There is a cave in the hillside. Run to there."
Zane went to his parents home, grabbed the Holy Book, and went to his fiancee's home, and grabbed the locket from her neck.
"I...will never forget you, Evelyn..."
Zane ran for the hillside in tears.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Zane collapsed on the rocky floor in tears.
"Yahweh, take my life, and hold me close to you. I have nothing else. Everyone I care about has been killed and I'm alone. Again. Darkness is winning, I am desolate and desperate. Why didn't you just let me die?"
As if Yahweh hadn't heard that line before.
"I awakened you because it wasn't your time yet. Arise and eat. There is a man by the name of Kenpachi Takuka in the border city of Rudalga. You need to go to him. I already let him know about you."
"Will I die, Yahweh?" he asked.
Yahweh remained silent, but comforted Zane.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Alone.
The word was the only thing on Zane's mind the whole next day. No matter what song he sang, what he did, who he spoke to (and it was a limited number of people since the destruction of the villages killed a lot of people). By the 4th hour Zane had a party of 12 people with him. He still felt alone.
"Say, you with the silver hair. Where are you headed?" a man with a staff asked.
"It's Zane, and to the city of Rudalga. I have a mission."
"I'm Rex. My party here is headed to the same spot. We all had dreams from Yahweh about it. You must have gotten one too."
"Actually, I was awakened by Yahweh. I was on the verge of death. Four men from a mysterious kingdom killed the whole people of the village. Only I am left. Maybe I was sent here to help lead an offense. I don't know." Zane said, scratching his head.
A girl with red hair and a spear held up one finger and motioned for the group to stop.
"There are fourty-eight enemy troops ahead. Four for the each of us. Everyone ready?"
Rex nodded. Zane sighed.
The group charged. The two archer twins stayed back and instantly killed eight of them. The others killed theirs and only Zane was left.
"Go on to Rudalga without me, Rex! I'll catch up!" he yelled, and cut a bad guy down.
As soon as the group left, Zane saw ten more soldiers advance to him.
Then, the Calvary arrived.
Angels flew in and sliced the men, killing them all instantly.
"Zane, we will protect you. Stay here. More are coming."
-----------------------------------------------------------
Pretty soon, an influx of travelers, weary and beaten, made their way to Rudalga, while Zane and the two angels guarded the other trail.
"Zane, we have an army of 400 soldiers moving here. We have to leave. But, here is a claymore made from quicksilver. Don't lose hope, and don't lose the will to fight. Yahweh is with you, you will not fail."
They alighted. Zane was alone again.
The doubt clouded his mind like a sneaky snake.
You're going to fail.
You're going to die.
You're worthless.
You're alone.
"You are never alone, Zane."
That ended the doubt. Zane looked down the road. More people came, running, screaming, crying.
"Get to the border!" Zane yelled, and pointed. He ran to the end of the line. There were fourty mysterious soldiers there, all with the look of bloodlust in their eyes.
"You don't have to do this alone, you know." a voice said from behind.
