Mini Chapter: Just Passing By
Dinner was marvelous, the dining room had been filled with a feast but there were only three people eating.
There was no sign of Cassius or his bedding friend, I was grateful that I didn't have to face her.
Once I finished eating I returned to my room only to find the door open, slowly walking inside I found Diana laying a bundle of soft material onto my bed. After giving it a nice pat she turned towards me and jumped.
"Aye!, Mistress Emerald!, You gave me quite a fright, why your as quiet as a cat you are." She said breathless.
Gently pressing her hand against er reddened cheeks she got back her composure."I'm sorry to just barge in Mistress, the Queen wanted me to drop off some clothes and put some hot water in your tube so you could bathe."
I waved my hand dismissively and smiled."Please don't be sorry, besides I'm the on who scared you."
Diana blinked for a moment, her mouth formed a small O. She seemed to be stunned by my kind behavior, with a shake of her head she made her way out of the room.
The poor lady did live in Scalefire, home to the notorious raging dragon's. I bet she didn't get much kindness, especially not from Cassius.
I breathed out a small laugh as I began unbuttoning the front of my dress, the grey fabric fell off once I undid the last button and I easily kicked off my dirty shoes. Kicking my dress to the side I walked into my bathroom to find a gold footed tub filled with steaming water, I lazily walked over and carefully climbed into the hot bath.
The water stung my skin at first but as I slowly settled myself in I felt my muscles loosen, with the flickering candles giving the bathroom a nice glow I began scrubbing my skin with the big sponge Diana had left for me. As I splashed the water along my body a delightful scent of peppermint filled my nose and sent a spell of sleepiness over me.
I quickly rushed through my bath and climbed out, grabbing the folded clothe next to my tub I dabbed it along my body to dry myself off before walking to my room. I plucked a piece of clothing from the neat bundle on my bed and slid it over my head, the soft rose colored fabric slid over my body and billowed loosely at the bottom.
Walking over to my mirror I widened my eyes at the night gown, the lace patterned sleeves fell along my upper arms leaving my shoulders bare and it curved downwards along my chest which caused the fabric to droop between both of my breasts.
Usually I wore one of my mothers wool dresses for bed time, never had I wore anything this extravagant just to sleep in. Just by examine the stitched lace in the mirror and sliding my fingers over the silk, I could tell this was expensive and made for true royalty.
Turning away from the mirror I walked over to the oak dresser in the room and blew out the line of candles. The room darkened and I went to climb into bed when a flicker of light from the hallway caught my eye, tilting my head to the side I walked over to my ajar door and peaked out into the hallway.
Cassius stopped in front of my door and looked at me, with a kit candle in his hand I watched the flame from his candle dance in his amethyst gaze. The dim glow flickered along his face, his hair was messy and framed his face with wispy strands.
His eyes traveled from my face, down my body and back up again, his tongue darted across his bottom lip and he averted his gaze."I suppose I owe you an apology for Katia's behavior early, what she said was harsh and unnecessary" He sated.
"I owe you an apology for my behavior as well, I've not welcomed you to my home or been kind to you. I'm sorry for that, I just find it hard to marry someone I don't know and to give up my life." He explained.
I scoffed in response, shaking my head I curled my lips in disgust."Do you always think of yourself?, I've dealt with your horrible behavior and not once have I complained about the arranged marriage!, I've never even gotten the chance to enjoy the freedom you so carelessly waste. " I whispered angrily.
Cassius narrowed his eyes and raised one of his eyebrows curiously. "Are you trying to say you've never been with any one before?" He asked in a low voice.
My cheeks instantly heated and I looked off to the side in embarrassment."No, I've never been with anyone before. Unlike you I've never experienced the gentle kiss of another or the sweet embrace of their arms." I mumbled bitterly.
A cocky smile slipped it's way onto his face and he leaned towards me."I find that very hard to believe, you must be a lonely little witch." He taunted.
Gripping the door in annoyance I directed my icy glared towards him."You don't know how to give a proper apology do you?, When one expresses their deep regret they don't usually mock then as well." I bit out.
Cassius blew out the candle in his hand and chuckled lowly. "I've said my dear apologies, I've even teased you. Good night lonely witch or shall I say my bride?" He whispered as he walked down the hall.
