Warm Milk

#

Juvia sighed and after trying to find a comfortable position to sleep for thirty minutes with her baby moving restlessly, she got up, needing to go to the bathroom. Again. The joys of pregnancy.

She pushed her husband's hand away from her stomach and snorted when he just let out a quiet snore and kept sleeping. He had arrived from a job that night and was exhausted – it was the last one he would take until after the baby was born and Juvia was glad he would be home with her.

With a grunt, Juvia struggled to sit down and she panted a little when she finally managed. Another grunt and she was up, a hand over her growing stomach. She waddled to the bathroom and after struggling a lot, she finally managed to pee.

She was about to return to the bed to try to sleep when she saw light coming from underneath the bedroom's door and instead, decided to check it out. Juvia closed the door as quietly as she could and heard some noise coming from the kitchen.

Already knowing who was there, Juvia wasn't surprised to see her father-in-law looking for something.

"Couldn't sleep?" She asked, softly and Silver turned. God, he looked so much like her Gray-sama it was uncanny.

Silver smiled at the Water Mage, he really loved her for loving his son as much as she did. "Nightmare."

"Sorry." Juvia told him.

"Nah, don't worry, got used to them." He shrugged and seemed to find what he was looking for: a pot. "How about you?"

Juvia sighed. "Your grandchild is being a naughty boy and is having a party inside my stomach." Silver pointed to a chair and Juvia went to sit down, she put a hand over her stomach, feeling her son kick, again.

"I remember when Mika was pregnant with Gray." Silver said, wistfully, clearly it was a sad and happy memory at the same time. "By the end, I swear to you, I caught her yelling at her stomach for Gray to just come out." He chuckled and so did Juvia. "He was two weeks overdue, did you know?"

"Oh, god, please, don't tell me that." Juvia groaned and Silver chuckled again. "I love this baby and I hope he only comes out when he's fully ready, but not a second later. Pregnancy is amazing but also very tiresome and uncomfortable."

"I bet." Silver nodded. "You are growing another human inside your body."

"Yes, thank you!" She said. "And said human, Juvia can feel it – literally – he will be a troublemaker." She caressed her stomach lovingly.

Silver snorted. "Look at his bloodline and surrogate family: the kid has no chance." Juvia laughed quietly and Silver showed her the pot he found. "I was going to warm up some milk. Care for some? Maybe that's what the little one needs."

Juvia shrugged. "Sure." Silver nodded and got the milk from the fridge and poured enough for the both of them and went to the stove. "How was the job?" Silver had accompanied Gray, after much protests from both of them. Juvia told them she would be fine on her own for a few days, besides, there were enough people in Fairy Tail that would check on her. "You two were so tired we didn't even talk about it."

"It was great." He answered. "I like to spend time getting to know the man my boy became and I have to say, it makes me very proud to be his father. He has changed a lot since the day we met again."

"Gray-sama came a long way." Juvia hummed in agreement.

"You had a lot to do with that." Silver told him.

"Just as much as he had to do with changing Juvia." The blunette told his father-in-law. "We were lucky to find each other."

Silver looked over his shoulder and smiled. "And now that luck will double with the little one."

"Gray-sama is very concerned about becoming a father." Juvia pointed out.

"Oh, most of us are terrified. I was scared shitless when Mika was expecting." Silver told Juvia after he finished warming up the milk. He got two cups and poured some of the milk in each. "I was afraid I was gonna screw up. I did when I 'died', but I didn't know he was alive. Before Deliora, I was an alright father."

"He adored you." Juvia assured him. "Having you back helped him very much."

"Thanks, sweetheart." Silver put the cup in front of Juvia. "Helped me too. My life wasn't the greatest. Now... I have my son back."

"And a daughter-in-law and a grandson on the way." She took a sip of the warm milk. "You have all of us, even though you still wander around when we have a perfect spare room made up for you." Silver never stayed more than a couple of weeks with the young couple, needing to be out in the world. After a couple of decades, he didn't want to stay still.

Silver chuckled. "You know me, Juvia-chan, can't stay too long in one place. I will, though, until the troublemaker comes. I don't want to miss the birth of my first grandchild."

"First?" The Water Mage was amused.

"Oh, I want many." He said. "I would like to get swarmed by children when I come to visit."

Juvia actually laughed. "Let's get this one first and let me forget about how uncomfortable it is to be pregnant and the pain I will go through to give birth. Deal?"

"Deal." Silver laughed.

"Hey. What are you two doing up?" Gray's voice came from behind and Juvia looked over her shoulder and saw her husband still half-asleep, but clearly worried. He stood next to Juvia and put a hand on her shoulder. "I woke up and you were gone. Are you alright?"

"Yes." Juvia smiled to her husband. "The baby was moving too much and Juvia couldn't find a good position to sleep."

Gray glanced at his father, asking the same, and the older Fullbuster shrugged. "Nightmare. I came here to get some warm milk, gave some to Juvia-chan to help her out as well."

Gray nodded and kneeled next to Juvia, a hand on her stomach. "Let's go back to bed. The little guy will be nice now, won't you, buddy?" He asked and got a slight kick in response. "He agrees."

"And he's moving less." Juvia sighed in relief. "I think the milk helped."

"Worked when this one" Silver pointed to Gray "was giving Mika a hard time."

"We are so having a little Gray-sama." Juvia chuckled.

Gray snorted and got up from the floor. "Poor kid. Now come on, you need to sleep." He told his wife. "You too, dad."

"Alright, son." Silver agreed. "You two go on, I'll clean up and go to bed."

"Thanks, Silver-sama, and for the milk too." Juvia, with Gray's assistance, got up from the chair. "Good night."

"Good night, dear. Good night, son."

"Good night, dad." Gray told his father and led his wife back to the room.

Juvia managed to smile at her father-in-law one last time and got one in response. She was glad they were a family and could share intimate moments like that.

Surprisingly to her, Juvia slept just a few minutes after finding a good position to sleep. She didn't know if it was exhaustion or Silver's milk trick, but she was glad it happened.

They were all very lucky to have found each other.
