Prologue
He enters the main gate of the house, and as he approaches the entry gate, he finds it slightly ajar. He calls out for his wife, but no one answers. He enters the house and calls out for his family members, but there's no one to be found. He walks into the living room, and amidst the dark, he stumbles upon something. As he steadies himself, the lights turn on, revealing the happy faces of his family beaming at him. There's Nitya, his wife, his brother-like friend, Vineet, and his wife, Ruhana, the newest addition to their family. A little boy, six years old, pounces on him.
He's Kabir Saxena, a businessman by profession. He's a hotelier and owns a chain of hotels named TasteTrove. Owning hotel chains has been his childhood dream. He has also attained degrees in hospitality and management. Now, his business is among the top ten hotels in the country.
"Happy Birthday, Chachu," Aaryav says, kissing his cheek as Kabir holds him in his arms.
"Tujhe kya laga, hum tera birthday bhul jayenge?" Vineet asks, patting his shoulder.
"Hum sab kitne busy the na, Vineet, main toh khud hi bhul gaya tha ki aaj mera janamdin hai, lekin tum sabne yaad rakha," Kabir replies.
"Par Chachi nahi bhulti, vo toh mera birthday bhi nahi bhulti, Chachu," Aaryav replies, gazing at Nitya.
"Aao, Kabir, cake cut karein?" she asks, her tone gentle.
"Just give me five minutes, I'll freshen up and come," he excuses himself and walks up to his room.
He quickly changes into comfy clothes and heads out, only to find Nitya lighting the candles. Vineet is playing with his son, Aaryav, who is running around holding balloons. Ruhana, on the other hand, is laying the dinner table. He smiles to himself, feeling lucky to have all of them by his side.
He jolts out of his reverie when his nephew, Aaryav, pulls him by his hand and takes him to the dining table. He sits down, and Nitya hands him the knife, gesturing for him to cut the cake. Kabir couldn't help but feel blessed as the others sing the birthday song, Aaryav's voice dominating. He feeds the first piece of cake to Aaryav and then to Nitya, followed by Vineet and Ruhana. As Nitya cuts the cake into pieces, Ruhana passes a gift wrap to Kabir. He's surprised.
"Gift? Mere liye?" he asks, his eyes wide in surprise.
"Haanji, mere aur Vineet ki taraf se, aur vaise bhi tum ye gift deserve karte ho, Kabir," Ruhana says, her tone laced with emotion.
Kabir opens the gift, revealing a small box of customized goodies. There's a tumbler with his nickname imprinted on it. He gazes at Vineet, who smiles mischievously.
"I have such a good name, ye kyun likhwaya?" Kabir asks, feigning annoyance.
"Kyunki, tum mere liye hamesha Golu hi rahoge," Vineet says, playfully slapping his shoulder.
Yes, the tumbler is customized with Kabir's nickname "Golu" imprinted on it. Additionally, there's a pen customized with his name, a small planner, and a photo frame holding Kabir and Nitya's wedding picture. Below their picture, their names are imprinted with an infinity symbol beside them. Nitya chuckles as she holds the frame.
"Wow, this is beautiful," Nitya chuckles.
"Ruhana chose this, usne hi kaha ki wo tumhe tohfa dena chahti hai," Vineet says, his tone exuding love and warmth.
"Par asli tohfa toh inhone mujhe de diya hai," Kabir says, his lips curving into a smile.
"Kabir, kaisi baatein kar rahe ho, maine kahan tumhe koi tohfa diya hai, mujhe toh iss ghar mein aaye hi 2 mahine hue hain," Ruhana says.
"Aapne mujhe mera dost lauta diya, usse bada tohfa kya hoga, bhabhi," Kabir says, his tone heavy with emotion, his eyes filled with tears.
"Vo toh mera farz tha, Kabir. Aur phir jab jeene ki wajah mil jaye toh raaste apne aap nikal aate hain. Ab kyun emotional ho rahe ho? Vineet ab bilkul thik hai, aur agar kuch hota bhi hai, toh hum sab hain na," Ruhana tries to lighten the moment.
"Haan, Kabir, Ruu is right. Ab toh hum sab hain ek dusre ke liye. Aur Aaryav bhi toh hai, bahut samajhdar hai mera beta. Sab samajhta hai, isliye ab itna mat socho. We have healed, Kabir," Nitya says, as she looks at her husband fondly.
"Haan, Kabir, mujhe toh laga tha ki meri zindagi bas khatm ho jayegi. Lekin tune apni dosti nibhai. Dosti aur Pyaar, bade se bada zakhm bhar dete hain, Kabir. Aur main toh khushkismat hoon, isliye bach gaya. Aur vaise bhi, agar kuch ho bhi jaata toh main bhoot banke tere aas-paas hi mandrate rehta, tujhe akela toh main tab bhi nahi chhodta," Vineet jokes, earning a slap from Kabir, but ultimately they end up laughing.
Kabir shakes his head, reflecting on his life. He realizes that he has come a long way. He's now perfectly settled in his life, with Nitya by his side. There's his best friend, Vineet, and his wife too. Not to forget, Aaryav is the cherry on top of this cake. He reflects on his life, and a soft smile appears on his lips.
Kabir and Vineet are the same age and have been friends since childhood. They came to Mumbai with many dreams in their eyes and then started living together. Kabir's wife, Nitya, takes Vineet as her brother, while Kabir has started calling Ruhana bhabhi. However, there are times when they call each other by their names, and that is fine. They have become one big family.
Until a few months ago, Kabir had lost his reason to live, as his best friend had been diagnosed with a rare disease and some doctors told them it couldn't be cured. However, Ruhana entered their lives as an angel in disguise, and now things seem fine.
As they sit for dinner, it becomes a lively affair with Aaryav telling him his tales from school, it's the boy's favorite things to do. As they share their feelings and emotions with each other, Kabir realizes that life happens at its own pace. It all takes the love and healing touch of your loved ones to make life a beautiful place.
