Chapter Thirty One

Judith stared at her brother to see the dark circles that had formed under his eyes, his eyes glossed over black, and his skin appeared pale and sickly.

"Nate..." she called to him hoping that somewhere in there, Nathaniel could hear her. But it only caused the man to glare at her, before a wicked grin broke across his face.

"Guess again." The Dark Lord told her.

"Judith..." George grabbed her arm and pulled her back  to place the sofa between them and the man. "That's not your brother right now."

"But-" Judith went to argue that she could help Nathaniel fight the possession when she saw her brother's hand raise the wand and go to aim it at them.

George was fast and drew his wand to disarm the other wizard.

The wand was knocked out of Nathaniel's hand who seemed to have slower reflexes than usual. Judith knew her brother was skilled, especially in dueling, she had witnessed him back in school. Perhaps the Dark Lord was struggling with the possession and was slower with his reaction time.

But he wasn't that slow as Nathaniel's body dropped to the floor and grabbed the wand, launching his own attack in return. George and Judith hid behind the sofa as Judith slid her wand out of her sleeve.

"You two need to get out of here!" Fred told her.

"What about you?" Judith asked him.

"You keep forgetting, I can't get hurt anymore, Judith. Now you and George get the hell out of here."

"Where do we go?"

"You know where."

Judith nodded before looking to George who was peeking out from behind the corner of the sofa.

"He's gone..." he said partially confused.

Suddenly, the sofa exploded knocking the both of them forward. She pushed herself up quickly and pulled George up before they ran down the hall towards her bedroom.

Once inside, she closed the door over, knowing all too well that it wasn't going to stop the Dark Lord for more than a second. She turned to George.

"We need to get out of here. It would be stupid to try and face him right now." Judith told him.

"There's two of us, Jude-"

"I'm not going to hurt my brother." she said. "I can't hurt him, George."

George met her eyes and gave a slight nod of his head. "I understand but he could hurt others, Judith."

She frowned. "Well, what do I do? It's not Nathaniel's fault, he's possessed. If we try to hurt you-know-who, we're only hurting Nathaniel."

George didn't have an answer but he heard footsteps approaching the door outside.

"Judith, I only want to talk with you." It was Nathaniel's voice. The Dark Lord figured out how to manipulate that against Judith.

"What do you want?" she called back.

"It's simple. I want Harry Potter."

"No!" she called back. "You can't have him-"

"I either get Harry Potter or I take your brother!" the door rattled violently.

"Leave him alone!!" she screamed.

George grabbed her hand as the door continued to shake. Suddenly, they heard the door lock, click signaling it was unlocked. He pulled Judith into his chest before they apparated from her flat.

Outside the Burrow, the two stood there in pure silence, everything was quiet in the early morning hours. The two of them were covered in splintered pieces of wood from the shattered door, and fluff from Judith's sofa.

Judith was shaking while she kept a tight grip on her wand. George released her slightly and looked down to her. She looked close to tears with her eyes darting back and forth as if she was waiting for her brother to appear any second.

"It's okay, Judith. We're safe here." he reassured her, holding her and resting his chin upon her head gently. "It's okay."

At the same time that he was comforting her, he was trying to comfort himself. He had never expected to ever hear from the Dark Lord again after the final battle.

He thought it was all over.

Judith began to cry as her hands gripped the front of his shirt, her wand falling to the ground. Her legs gave out from under her as she nearly fell to the ground, but George gently lowered her to the ground, sitting with her in his arms.

"He's going to kill my brother, George. He's going to get Nathaniel killed."

"No, he won't. We're not going to let him."

"He's not going to stop until he gets a hold of Harry."

"He's not going to get either. Nathaniel is going to be okay, he just has to hold on a little longer until we figure out how to get that monster out of him. But I promise you that Nathaniel is going to be alright. I'm not going to let you experience the feeling of losing a brother."

Judith froze for a moment before looking up to him.

The two didn't say anything else as they resumed to just holding onto one another.

Fred arrived and witnessed the scene of his brother holding onto Judith with a small smile on his face. It was dark times but as a wise man had once said "Happiness could be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light."
