Chapter Nine
"No. Ravenclaw won that game fair and square!" Judith argued with George who shook his head side to side rapidly.
"Davies totally fouled during that game."
"Nope. He didn't. I watched the entire game very carefully."
"Well, you're just bias! Of course, you're going to side with your house."
"Now that's not true. I'm very fair." she said calmly setting her hands on the table. "I love my teams but I know when they are playing dirty."
"Obviously not since you won't admit that Davies fouled during that game."
Judith smirked at him. "That game happened over six years ago and you still remember all of that?"
"I'm not the only one apparently." George said.
"He did foul during that game." Fred said.
"Oh sure take his side." Judith rolled her eyes but stopped herself when she realized George was staring at her. "Ugh sorry...it's just been a long day."
"I thought you didn't have work." George pointed out.
"Yeah...well when you live my life a day off isn't really a day off."
"Sounds like you need to enjoy a proper day off."
"My idea of a proper day off involves me sleeping all day and ignoring the outside world."
"That doesn't sound like a lot of fun." George said.
She shrugged. "Life hasn't been very fun lately. Sleep just allows me to pretend that there's something better to do."
"That's...just unacceptable. When's your next day off?"
"Uh...I think it was Tuesday-"
"Great, next Tuesday you are going to have a proper day off."
"How am I going to do that?"
"I'm going to show you." He smiled at her.
'You are?"
"Yes. So Tuesday..."
"Yeah...Tuesday." Judith nodded. "Sounds good."
"Perfect. Well, I have to head out but I'll see you Tuesday."
"Alright...have a good night."
"You do the same, Judith." he said before leaving.
"Awww... what a lovely moment." Fred said. "It was just perfect...except for one thing."
Judith looked at him. "What?"
"Where and when are you two meeting on Tuesday?"
"Oh...damn!"
Fred was confused by the young woman when they arrived back to her flat that evening. Throughout the time they had talked and the time she spoke with George, she had been all smiles. However, as she walked home, he watched as the smile left her face. Her eyes held sorrow and the slight frown curled her lips downward.
Walking into the flat, she excused herself and left to her bedroom leaving Fred alone in the kitchen. He sat for a little while, until he heard sobbing echoing in the hallway.
There was one thing Fred hated, it was seeing anyone cry.
He forced himself up to check on Judith but as he attempted to knock, he realized it would do him no good.
"Judy?" he stepped through the door to find the woman crying on her bed, with her legs drawn into her chest.
"No...no..get out." Judith said covering her face with a pillow.
He ignored her demands and sat on her bed.
"Why are you crying?" he asked simply.
She shook her head. "I'm not..just-"
"Are you really going to try and claim that you aren't crying while your entire face is soaked with tears?"
That was apparently the wrong thing to say as she began crying again, this time into the pillow to muffle the sounds that emitted from her.
"I don't understand, you were all smiles and laughter earlier. Did I do something wrong?"
"No...no one did anything wrong!" Judith said dropping the pillow from her face. "It's just me."
"Well, tell me what's wrong, maybe I can help."
"No, you can't."
"And how do you know that?"
"Because you can't bring Renna back!" she yelled at him. Her voice grew quieter. "No one can."
The whole conversation of Ravenclaw vs Gryffindor in quidditch had brought back so many memories for Judith. Pleasant ones that involved her and Renna. The long nights they would spend out in the quidditch pitch as Renna practiced and Judith cheered her on.
Trying to cheer Renna up after Ravenclaw lost a game by dangling sweets in front of the girl's face.
How many memories the girls had created over the years, but could no longer create new ones together.
They had dreamed that Renna would go on to play quidditch professionally, while Judith worked creating snitches for the games.
But Renna would never get to live that dream and Judith felt guilty.
"No, I can't bring Renna back and I'm sorry. If I could, I would, Judy. If I could do what I wanted I would be with my family right now and not have them suffer. But dwelling on these things isn't going to help you heal."
"It's hard not to, Fred. You spend everyday with that person, planning out your lives and then out of nowhere they're gone. You feel helpless in every sense wondering if you could have done something different to save them. But it doesn't matter because no matter how much you beg the forces of the universe...no one brings them back to you."
Fred stayed quiet as one tear trailed down her cheek as she looked up at him.
"I just want my sister back."
