Chapter Five
"Why are you hiding back here? Go talk to him!" Fred told Judith.
She shook her head frantically. "No way!"
"What do you mean?! He's right there!"
"What in the world am I supposed to tell him? Hi George, guess what? I've got your dead brother in the backroom if you two wanted to catch up on things?!"
"Well, you could word it a little nicer."
"I'm going to talk to him for you, Fred but not right now. It's weird. He's going to think I'm just a horrible person trying to mess with him. Trust me, he won't believe it."
"He will believe it."
"Oh, so if someone had come up to you in the middle of the day claiming they were speaking to one of your dead relatives you would be okay with that?"
"I would wonder why the dead relatives didn't come to me in the first place considering I'm already-"
"Fred!"
"Look, he'll believe you. He might be a little thrown off but I'm certain-"
"Certain he'll think I'm a complete lunatic?!"
"Uh..."
The two turned to see Alma standing in the doorway, looking directly at Judith.
"I see you're talking to yourself again, do you want me to come back later?" Alma asked her.
Judith straightened herself turning to her co-worker.
"I'm fine, what is it?" she said.
"I have a customer out here, who's asking about some tea." Alma told her.
"And?"
"Well, you're the one who gave it to his mother, he wants to talk to you, not me."
"See this is great!" Fred said.
She glared at him, causing Alma to back away cautiously.
Judith rubbed her face. "I'll be right there."
As soon as Alma disappeared, Judith rounded on Fred. "Stop trying to make me look crazy!"
"You do that all on your own," Fred smiled at her.
Walking out the backroom, Judith hoped Fred wouldn't follow because it would make it all that much more difficult to try and have a normal conversation with his twin. But of course, Fred enjoyed torturing her and followed her right on out as she greeted George.
"Hi," she said with an awkward wave, " what can I help you with?"
George turned around from where he was reading some of the tea brands, and upon seeing her smiled.
"Hey...I know you! We went to Hogwarts together...you were a Ravenclaw, Judith right?"
Judith's eyes widened slightly as the twin was able to recall so much information about her, when they had hardly even uttered a word to each other in all seven years of attending school.
"Uh yeah, that's right. I'm surprised you knew all that." she said.
"Well, I distinctly remember the one girl who shouted at all the Ravenclaw and Gryffindor matches."
"Oh..." her cheeks flushed red. "That's embarrassing on my behalf."
"Nothing embarrassing about supporting your team."
She offered a polite smile, still feeling like slightly self conscious as one of her classmates only knew her because of her yelling in the stands.
"What can I help you with?" she asked attempting to change the subject.
"Right...well, you helped my mum here the other day. She found this tea for me..."
"The Sleepytime tea?" she said.
"That's the one and I have to say, it actually worked. I was able to sleep for once."
Judith stole a glance at Fred who's face was solemn as he looked to his twin standing before him and not even knowing. He looked to her and she knew that he was aware of the reason his brother wasn't sleeping anymore.
"I'm actually..." George's voice dragged both of them away from looking at each other, returning the attention to him. George gave her a strange looking before continuing.
"I'm actually looking to buy more of it, if you had any left."
"Y-yeah, we have plenty." Judith told him, leaving Fred's side and directing George to one of the shelves.
She grabbed one of the boxes.
"There's about thirty six tea bags in one box. How many are you looking to buy right now?"
"Just the one." he answered. "It'll give me an excuse to come back here and buy more on separate occasions." he smiled at her.
"Sly dog." Fred laughed from where he stood only making Judith blush even more.
"Is this where you've been working since school?" George asked her.
"Sort of." Judith replied rubbing her arm and walking over to the counter. 'I work with my grandfather some."
"Oh, and what does he do?"
"He's a metal charmer. Well, he's retired now, but he's been teaching me."
"So, you've been learning to make the golden snitches?"
"Well, the basics to make it. It's quite hard to get the shape...mine always end up looking like some weird peanuts."
George laughed, a genuine laugh. "I think that would make the game much more interesting to have mutated peanuts flying about."
"I'm not fully to my grandfather's level of skill but I'm slowly making my way there."
"Alright, well since you helped me find something that actually helps me sleep, I'll make you a deal. I will buy your first completed snitch."
"Will you?" she grinned.
"Yeah, I will. Even if it looks like a distorted peanut."
"You are very kind. Thank you."
"No, thank you. I hope this tea continues to work it's magic."
"It should, but if you grow tired of the flavor, we have others you could choose from."
"I'll definitely check it out next time. Right now I have to head back to the shop. You should stop in their one day, it's always nice to see familiar faces."
"I will."
The two wished each other a good day, before Judith counted over the money and placed it in the drawer.
She glanced up to see Fred directly in her face, causing her to nearly scream out.
"What are you doing?!" she grumbled at him, closing the register.
"Me?! What were you doing?!"
"What?"
"You were flirting with my brother the entire time. Don't even try to lie either, I was standing there the whole time."
"I wasn't flirting! It's called customer service."
"Oh yeah? I didn't see any customer's getting that kind of service."
She rolled her eyes.
"And not once did you mention me!" Fred said.
"I couldn't!"
"Yes you could have."
"No, I couldn't Fred. I don't think you understand how complicated this entire situation is right now. Especially for me."
"Especially for you?! I'm the one who's dead!"
