Mia the soul keeper
I know I said to some that a Grayson x Mia story would be next, but I'm having trouble with it, and this idea has been eating away at my thoughts for the past few days. I hope you enjoy! (Why can't I write anything without angst?)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The dark clouds accompanied my tears of distress and anguish that streamed down my face. The smell of blood and decaying flash made me want to puke. The burning aching spread throughout my body as it shook and wheezed in despair. I held the soil in my hands, digging my fingernails into the dirt as I tried to hold back my sorrowful cries. The red color of blood was splattered and pooled on the muddy ground, being washed away by the rainfall. How could this have happened? How could I have just sat by and let it happen?
I peered around the bolder I hid behind, seeing the mercenary horses galloping away, with the riders cheering of their great victory. My teary eyes forced themselves to gaze upon the massacre. The bodies of mercenaries laid there, and the body of the assassin. He went against the empire and tried to help us in the end, but his blood was shed and he parishes in attempt to save Grayson's life. Despite his noble sacrifice, it was in vain...for the ex-commander had perished in the mist of the chaos.
His body laid in the mud, but his head was gone. Decapitated. They must have taken it as a way to prove that they had finally killed the notorious dragon egg thief. His body was also filled with arrows, soaking all of his clothes in his blood. I choked on the screams in my throat. No. This can't be happening.
The assassins body was stabbed in the side. He had tried to protect Grayson to prove that he was still a friend. His mismatched eyes remained open and glazed over. Blood pouring out of the wound and his mouth. Drake's lifeless body was a few feet away from Grayson's, lying in a pool of his own blood. His backpack was ripped open, with its contents spread everywhere around him. His eyes were closed, with his nose bleeding and blood dripping from his lips. A large stab wound was on his chest, close to his heart that no longer made a single beat. I fell to my knees in anguish. They're all dead...and I could have done something to prevent it. Why did I hide? Well, I had run out of arrows and my blade had snapped in two, but why...why didn't I just grab another weapon off of one of the corpses? Why am I so nieve?
I put my arms onto the ground and put my head on the mud, no longer being able to hold back my tears. I sobbed, my eyes becoming sore and my mouth getting dry. They're dead... They're gone...and I can't get them back. They had become everything to me, and now they were gone! What other purpose did I have to serve in this world? I relied on them; becoming the only people I trusted in this h***ish life. Now Grayson and Drake were gone. I didn't want to grasp onto that fact. I kept scratching and clawing at my skin, trying to wake myself up from this nightmare, but I never awoke to a blissful morning. I only opened my eyes to find myself right back where I was; by the dead bodies of my best friends.
Suddenly, I heard a chiming noise like a bell. I looked up, despite my sorrows, and letting my curiosity get the better of me. I looked in the noises direction, and gasped. A green light shined on Grayson's body, slowly rising up, forming into a tiny ball of green light. I knew that shape, and it's appearance. It was a light spirit. My eyes widened as I felt at a loss of breath. Realization struck me.
"G-Grayson?" My eyes teared up again, quickly letting my tears flow down with ease.
I lifted up my hand, reaching out to Grayson's spirit. I could barely see through my eyes clouded with tears, but I had no doubt in my mind that this was a light spirit; that it was Grayson. My breathing was unsteady, and my limbs shook. I don't want it to fade. I don't want them to leave me. My attention was drawn away from it, when I heard another chime. Out of the corner of my eye I saw yet another light. I looked at it, seeing an orange and lavender light forming into a light spirit that hovered over the assassin's lifeless form. They both flew over to me, flying around my head. I lifted up my hands, letting them fly around them, as their color began to dim.
"No..." I whispered, not wanting to see them fade.
Another light sound rung. I looked at Drake's body, seeing a light shinning brighter than both Grayson's and Luke's souls. It was mixed with the colors of blue, purple, and white. I slowly walked up to it, as it remained completely still above the body. It's form moved in weird ways, like it was about to explode, seemingly trying to separate from itself. I reached my hand out to it, but it suddenly zipped past me, and went down to an open magic spell book that had splatters of his blood on its pages. It came back up to me, and joined Grayson and Luke's spirits, spinning around me like a game of tag.
My eyes were focused on the pages of the spell book. A single word on it caught my eye.
"Spirit insnare." I walked slowly up to the book, picking it up in my shaking hands. The blood on the pages go on my fingers. The spell itself was written in a different language, like the language of the magi. I dragged my finger across the words. I'll do anything to keep them here with me... I won't let them go. They're my family, and I don't want them to leave me alone. I've been left alone too many times before.
I lifted up my hands, hearing the ringing noise coming from one of the spirits. I looked in it's direction, hearing that it was coming from Drake's spirit. It was like he knew what I was planning, but I didn't know if he was making noises to tell me to go through with my plans, or in protest to them. But at the time, I didn't care. I wanted him and Grayson back, and alive by my side. I wanted to feel that warmth that I felt with them, and laugh, and hear their stories that are almost unbelievable. But I've lived those stories with them in them in the flesh; things that you could never forget, and never let go.
"I can't lose you two... I don't want to be alone again."
I put out my hands, lifting them up as I said the spell as best I could. A bright pink light shined on my palms, sparkling as it grew brighter and brighter in my hands. I let out a small gasp, intrigued by the magic energy. All of the sudden, three glowing magical ropes shot out from my hands, wrapping around the spirits. I gasped, not knowing what was happening, or if the spirits of my friends were damaged. The ropes of magic pulled on the spirits, until they were above my shaking hands, now trapped in a ball of hot pink magical energy. I fell back, surprised by how fast it had all happened. My eyes looked back up, as I hyperventilated, filled with so much emotions. Sadness, fear, anger, shock. I didn't even know what this spell was capable of, but I hoped with all of my heart that it would resurrect my fallen comrades, and remove my distress. I waited for what felt like minutes, but was only a few seconds, when the bright light dimmed, revealing a staff stuck in the ground. The pole was made of gold, with twisted parts that mimicked a tree branch, and golden claws that wrapped around a glowing ball. Different lights shined within it, like looking up at northern lights in the sunset. I sat up, slowly walking to the staff in the ground. I wiped my eyes from the old tears, and reached out to the scepter. My eyes widened, gazing upon my friends souls, trapped in the magic ball of energy. Grayson's and Luke's still flew around in the confined space, seeming either happy or terrified, while Drake's spirit moved a little, but it mainly stayed still in the middle, forming a weird shape that constantly shook. It was unsettling seeing his sprit like that, looking like it didn't want to be a whole. It made me scared, really.
"So, this is what that spell does? Traps you guys like this?" I was filled with disappointment and anger. I didn't want their souls to be trapped. I wanted them to come back to life.
I took the scepter in my grasp, pulling it our of the ground with ease. I looked down at their spirits confined within the magic ball, giving off a bright pink aura. I could their light coming back, no longer fading into the afterlife. My eyes teared up yet again. What am I supposed to do? I stroked the magic, that felt like warm, smooth glass. I kept my gaze lock on the spirits inside. Tears rolled down my faced, as I pulled up my hood. My arm fell back to my side, my body feeling weak.
"I-I'm sorry..." I choked out. "I'm sorry."
I began to sob again, my weak knees giving out from under me. I fell, hold the scepter close to me. They're dead because I didn't step in and help. It's my fault... I opened my eyes p, hearing many little chime noises coming from inside the ball of magic. I smiled, not even knowing why. For some reason, I felt happy all of the sudden. I stood back up, my legs still wobbly.
"It's okay. I'll figure out something! I could bring you back to life! I'll find a way... I-I promise."
I walked back on the path, stepping over body's. They're dead...but I'll bring them back. I'll save them. Where there's a will, there's a way. There has to be a way... Right?
(Do you guys want me to continue?)
