Third person point of view-

She could not believe that he was stuck with him of all people. Of all people to be separated from the group with! The thoughts in the back of her mind berated her for getting the gods so angry at her that she ended up in this position.
They were attacked by imperial forces, Grayson, Mia, and Meron being forced into one direction while she and Drake fled in the other. Unfortunately once the two magic regained their mana and fought off their attackers, they found themselves lost in the darkness of night, entangled in the vines of the forest canopy. Now they traveled back from where they had come from, but their comrades were nowhere to be found.
Drake understood why she appeared so nervous, Meron was her best friend after all and he was lost somewhere out there, possibly in trouble with the others. Even so, she never smiled, even while the kid was by her side, at least from what he could see. Every time his eyes turned to her, her own gaze would look back with annoyance and mistrust.
As the two continued on their way, the hybrid looked at her out of the corner of his eyes, getting a sickening feeling from that cold expression.

He could not resist bringing up the topic. "You never smile. Care to elaborate why?"

Alexa growled, turning her head as anger further grew in her eyes. The hybrid sighed, wishing that she would cease distancing herself from him. What did he do to make her so hateful towards him?
The uneasiness in the air only grew the longer they walked in silence, growing to the point where it was unbearable. Not even the distant sound of chirping crickets or croaking frogs at a nearby swamp eased the tension between the two. It had taken a while, but the hybrid finally hatched an idea.
Alexa, watching as Drake stopped in his tracks. As he searched through his backpack, a part of her mind kept telling her to make a run for it, but then her friend Meron, who was lost with the other two blondes, would be unlikely to forgive her. The pressure in her chest tightened, jumping when Drake's deep voice pulled her from her thoughts.

"Alright." He stood up straight, holding a golden circle that appeared to be a talisman. "I want to show you something cool! Have you ever seen a 'rising earth spell' or teleportation perhaps?"

He hated to see the scowl draw itself back onto her expression, but it was not as hateful as I had been previously. This one hid curiosity, and that he would gladly take over her usual glare of utter loathe.

"No." She said quietly but tried to keep her dominating tone. "I know of the earth spell, and teleportation magic is only possible for Enderman and..." She trailed off, taking Drake by surprise to see a new light in her eyes, one of remorse. Of horror.

He turned away for a brief moment, wondering what was going through her mind. His ears perked as she continued. "I know that you can teleport with those monster halves of yours. Don't be a show off."

The male pouted, disappointed. He did enjoy showing off, but he supposed that now was not the time. As he began to put his magical talisman away, realization struck his mind. She said monster halves, not half. A pit dropped in his stomach, and for a moment he felt that he would vomit.
His mismatched multi-colored and purely eyes shifted towards his acquaintance. She refused to look him in the eyes, yet a worried gleam remained in her brown orbs.

"Alexa... Why do you hate me? Is because of my...problem with him?"

A silence fell between the two, that tension returning, growing and expanding. It was almost physically weighing him down. It was almost relieving when she opened her mouth to allow her voice to pass through, but her words stung like a dagger through the heart.

"What do you think? You are a monster! Two demons trapped in one body! Not to mention that one of those beasts is the one that has slaughtered millions of people just for pleasure!"

Once again the sound aside from distant animals fled, leaving the male and female in tense silence. Tears were beginning to well in Alexa's chocolate eyes, quick to wipe them away with her arm covered in bandages.

"Years ago, after He...attacked our village... afterwards when all that was left was rubble, I saw you and I thought that you were Him returning to finish the job. I ran away...I abandoned my family because of you."

Drake found himself at a loss for words. What was he supposed to say now? He felt that he would make things worse rather than better, but staying silent was only a guarantee that she would continue to burn with that hate.

"I understand. At least, your hate. I can't possibly imagine the pain you must feel." Her head lifted as he broke the quiet atmosphere. Her head turned to face him once he continued. "I mean, how can I blame you? I've seen the horrible things that He is capable of."

Her brows lifted, allowing her eyes to grow with shock from the grieving smile across his lips, painting sorrow onto his face. "He killed my entire family, possessed my brother. I thought that I could save him by taking that demon onto myself... You can see how that turned out."

Alexa was further surprised by his laugh before he continued to speak. "If you don't ever learn to trust me, I understand. Sometimes I'm scared of myself!" Once again he chuckled before the happiness quickly drained from his being. "I know that I'm a monster, deeper down than just my physical appearance...but as long as I can be there for my friends, then I'm okay with that!"

Suddenly, the girls heart felt a little less frozen. A slight warms rose into her tan cheeks, but she did not know why. Perhaps shame for treating him so poorly. Drake let out a light gasp when he saw something he never imagined that he would see; Alexa smiling.

"Say, how about you take out that earth talisman? Perhaps we can see the others from up there, or at least get an idea of where we need to go."

Drake's chapped lips perked at its corners, his mood brightening now that they had set their differences aside. He only hoped that it would last so he could form a true bond with her. Drake did as asked, pulling out the magic artifact from his backpack then telling her to step back. In all honesty, she had never seen an earth rising spell, only a form of it used by Herobrine long ago.
As Drake took a deep breath to prepare the spell, the ground began to shake. Before she knew it, the hybrid was high above her head, perched upon a pillar of dirt and stone topped with gravel from the pathway. He was above the trees, almost able to see the entire terrain from where he stood. One up there, he did not see anything at first but after a few moments, he could see a golden light flickering in the distance.

"I think I see something! I might be them but we can't be sure!"

She waved for him to come back down, barley giving him time to regain footing and put his talisman away properly. She laughed, grabbing his shirt and pulling him along as she told them that there was only one way to find out and that they needed to hurry.

"You're going the wrong way!"

Alexa stopped, turning red in the face. She crossed her arms, a hard pout on her expression as she turned to face the laughing male.

"Shut up!"

Drake stopped but continued to smile. He turned around with a smooth laugh, leading the way to their comrades. The more time Alexa spend with him, the more thankful she was that she had opened up. Now that she was not looking at him in such a dim light, she was beginning to warm up to Drake. Even if at times he still terrified her, he was not a bad guy. Not at all. And that was the first thing in him that she grew to love.
